12:47 final result to save you some times. :)
The perfect timing!
You should take a challenge where you listen to all these genres you don't know.
12:47 for the full list
I love black metal for the emotions, i love death metal for it's brutality. But thrash metal always gives me this feeling of old school metalheads just drinking beer, moshing and having fun, and that's what makes it the best for me
Perfectly said. You're not the only one 🤘.
I dont like thrash as mutch yet (havent really gotten into it mutch beside slayer) but you perfectly described it
black metal is trash
@@1minutevideos1 my men is watching farvann and hating black metal. What's the point?
@@1minutevideos1 maroon 5 more your speed?
The ending killed me😂😂😂
It’s true some people will just want to see the completed chart.
Yeah it was good :D :D
Hahaha I immediately went to the end, just to see what I was in for. Wondered wtf was going on and zapped a minute back, then realized the prank :D
Ngl I'm one of those people. I skipped to the end and saw thrash in unlistenable and had to watch the whole video because i was glabbergasted. Glad it's actually in superior😂

🤣🤣
It was at that moment he realised the video will be demonetised 😂
How were there five kinds of "blackened" metals but no atmospheric black metal :(
Or even ambient black metal as well.
what is that, like suffering hour?
And what about Post Black Metal, Blackgaze or Voidgaze?
@@NathanHoff96 I think stuff like Burzum and Obtained Enslavement
Or symphonic black metal 😢
Pirate Metal will be #1
Lol
Amen!
based
Cauldron Black Ram
Pirate metal is actually fun to listen to
3:34 Crossover is like D.R.I., Ratos de Porão, Municipal Waste, Violator. The word "crossover" there means Punk hardcore + Thrash.
Suicidal Tendencies too🤘🏻
Finally someone that knows Violator, best band ever. I don't know if I would put them as crossover, but it's ok, depending from person to person. My man on the video though crossover was RATM, I almost died at my chair here. And the tier he rated thrash metal???? OMG almost died 2x here
DAM just got baited here lol😭
I think S.O.D and M.O.D too?
Accüsed, gang green and so on. But yeah dri obviously
Wow, I don't think I've ever 100% disagreed with a tier list like this before
Nice
just flip it unsidedown then :)

Thrash metal always sounds at least acceptable live. Also it's rare that no one dances on a thrash gig so the mood is also tends to be at least ok.
You mean moshes?
@@matejdonoval7472 Nah, everybody knows people dance the Charleston to Thrash.
@@matejdonoval7472 Well maybe that too but for some weird reason here in Germany where I live people prefer circlepits. I think it's because of the wind turbines. There are plenty of them here. They say that watching violent movies makes you violent as well so probably watching wind turbines makes you want to run in endless circles. Who knows? I know a native German youtuber who does Q&A sessions. Maybe we could ask him. :D
Yes, he even put it in top tier by itself, I dont think anyone here disagrees
I saw some people dancing to Crisix 😅
the best part is trolling people who skip to the end LOL
Crossover Thrash Metal is one of my favorite genres, as someone who grew up in the 80s. Think Suicidal Tendencies, DRI, SOD, MOD, Agnostic Front(some albums like Cause For Alarm and One Voice), Crumbsuckers, Pro-Pain, Ludichrist, Excel, Carnivore, later Exploited, Cro-mags, etc. It basically means bands who crossed over from Punk to a more metal sound
@Mafwi Oh yeah ! Their "Anarkophobia" is a masterpiece !
The sound of my youth
Ah man I love carnivore. You can definitely see its influence on TON's first few albums
I can’t believe you really just dismissed my boys at Alestorm like that
I know. It's pure evil. EVIL!
EEEEEVIIIIIIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This video got awkward when you put Symphonic Metal in Unlistenable because that's my favorite Subgenre of Metal... That's okay though everyone loves different aspects of Metal for me I love lots of Instruments and one Instrument that's my favorite is Violins like you toss a Violin in a song and I love it.
Another thing I love about Symphonic Metal is it just feels grand if that makes sense, I also feel like Classical and Metal just compliment each other very nicely.
My Holy Metal Trinity is Symphonic, Folk, and Power Metal.
Also gotta say use to only like 2 Deathcore bands probably wouldn't put it in Unlistenable but I love Lorna Shore and Brand of Sacrifice which maybe they're Melo Deathcore I don't know subgenres get confusing
bless you for attempting to classify the 1,543,928 sub-genres of Metal.
I do agree, lists of genres as a whole as compared to the best of a certain genre can sometimes be a lot different
Progressive metal is a good example. Some is REALLY good. Some is garbage.
Huh? He's making a black metal channel but he doesnt even like black metal?! Huuuh??
You mentioned that you consider difference between blackened death metal and black/death metal on the examples like Behemoth and Blasphemy (personally i am fine with war metal term). So blackened death gets pretty good rank. Now how would you rate Blasphemy kind of stuff?
Power metal in S tier would be pretty dope
It does deserve to be in S tier. The true black sheep among all the others. The one people least want to associate with partly because it doesn't provide them a "tough guy" image to exploit, but has the double bass drumming and guitar work to back up its prowess nonetheless. And that flying/transcending sensation...
Informative & quite funny at the end! The honesty is refreshing these days
DSBM is my favorite black metal genre and will never change. put some atmospheric style in it and you have the perfect black metal genre.
Totally agree
Melodic Deathcore is bands like Shadow of Intent and Fit for an Autopsy. It’s essentially a modernized version of Melodic Death Metal, but with more intensity, more breakdowns, grooves, chugs, etc., and tends to use more downtuning and double bass blasts and bursts. However, it also has guitar solos, harmonizing leads, hook-ish big choruses, and thrashy verses, with a stronger focus on emotion.
Sounds like upgraded melodic death metal to me:P
Symphonic Metal? Unlistenable? Ouch.
To be fair, I don't listen to it frequently anymore. I remain fond of it because it played an essential role for me, by providing a slow introduction to growls. I went from (barely) tolerating them to appreciating them and other vocal styles prevalent in more extreme genres of metal.
Definitely agree on the "holy trinity" you mentioned of thrash metal, black metal, and death metal. 🖤
I call it Eurovision metal
Does Anorexia Nervosa count as a symphonic band? In that case it's pretty awesome.
Espicaly when you see where he put Power Metal. Symphonic is just Power Metal with a bit more bombast.^^
Symphonic bands treat the orchestral elements like a gimmick instead of like proper instruments. Either the guitars (chugga chugga chugga...) or the orchestra must musically suffer because the bands are not creative or clever enough to meld the two.
There is ONE exception for me, and that's Haggard.
@@apugalypse_now Try Theli, Vovin and Secret of the Runes from Therion.
At the Gates is melodic death metal (besides the first 1-2 albums) and In Flames were melodic death metal up until Clayman I believe and afterwards they started mixing it with some alternative metal and completely changing their sound (for worse) after a few albums. From melodeath I would definitely recommend Dark Tranquillity especially "The Gallery" and there other quite obvious things like "Heartwork" and I think that "Symbolic" could be classified as melodeath and Children of Bodom are as well a melodic death metal band
In Flames have pretty much been melodeath throughout their career. Not good melodeath throughout but still melodeath.
@@trs5127 well, most of their albums even quite deep into the 2000s could be considered melodeath but later on albums like "Battles" have very little in common with it
@@smooku8388 yeah it's very alternative. I could agree that that one and Siren Charms in particular are barely melodeath at all.
@@trs5127 They kind of went back to melodic death metal on their last album.
I think it is interesting when people say they got into metal through some genre and then it changed. I basically got into metal through Sabbath, Ozzy and power metal and that is still the best for me and it will always be
That's cool actually
Some industrial metal bands like Godhead, Ministry and Aesthetic Perfection can be really extreme at times.
Your shuffle prank at the end was really funny!
Bands like Lorna Shore or Mental Cruelty are Blackened Deathcore
that jebait at the end 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
but for real though Farvann, try Scar Symmetry, Svavelvinter, Omnium Gatherum, for Melodic Death, and for Folk Metal, I really love Black Folk Metal specifically, and Moonsorrow for me is the king
Crossover Thrash is a mix of Hardcore Punk and Thrash Metal as S.O.D. M.O.D. Anthrax, Nuclear Assault, Cro-mags, D.R.I. Suicidal Tendencies, Cryptic Slaughter and Municipal Waste.
Groove Metal is Volbeat, Rebel Meets Rebel, Pantera. Basically Cowboy Metal.
How the hell do you not know crossover thrash?! I thought I already spammed enough SOD and DRI songs on the discord! :C
But you made it with a huge comeback. All hail the thrash metal horde! 👺
woops
The Thrash crossover we have been waiting for 😆
@@Lotastic_Films Absolutely!
Thank you! This was a fun ranking :) and it really high-lights the fact that many subgenre names are just names, haha! I kind of feel that too detailed names just get silly AND puts a band in a trap.

Hammerheart by bathory band is one of the most important Viking Metal albums and Earth 2 (special low frequency version) by Earth band is one of the most important Drone Metal albums
In my opinion, Christian Metal isn't a genre. It's only about the lyrical themes.
Mortification is something different than Stryper which is something different than Saviour Machine.
Yep, it's just the lyrical content. Musically it covers the whole spectrum from hard rock/glam metal to the extreme subgenres!
Would you consider Running Wild pirate metal? And if so, would you reconsider your decision?
I think this video is good when drunk. Well, nah! It's "Pretty good!". ;D

How do you like Lorna Shore? I know that may sound a little mainstream but it's still extremely good. (that's an example for blackened , symphonic deathcore)
Answered that in the latest Q&A
@@Farvann thanks 4 the reply, ima watch now. Greetings from Germany!
@@AnonymousCommands Ach ein Deutscher, sag das doch gleich!
I cried at the crossover, man it’s like Municipal Waste, Suicidal Tendencies, Insanity Alert, etc.
Christian Metal is metal with christian lyrics like Demon Hunter, August Burns Red or Skillet (maybe not that metal but still elements)
Crossover Thrash is what it's called, I don't know why it says crossover thrash metal. It's a genre that fused thrash metal with hardcore punk. Bands like Suicidal Tendencies, Stormtroopers of Death, Municipal Waste, Nuclear Assault are part of that.
Melodic metalcore is bands like As I Lay Dying, All That Remains, Killswitch Engage, Trivium, Bullet For My Valentine, Unearth, Shadows Fall, August Burns Red, Parkway Drive, Shadows Fall, God Forbid.
It's melodic because it's influenced by melodic death metal and you can hear that in their riffs, bands like In Flames, At the Gates, Soilwork influenced these bands.
That's the metalcore I grew up with and helped me get into other genres.
Also Christian metal is just metal with Christian lyrics, it's less of a genre and more of a lyrical thing as it can include christian bands from different subgenres.
I wouldn't count Nuclear Assault into the crossover scene, but I see why you did. It's just NY thrash, pretty close, given their heavy HC punk influence. ;)
Love when you added thrash superior it's the only subgenre that kicks ass
let's not exaggerate
now come on 💀
Farvann what do you think of sludge metal?
Christian bands to check out. Horde, antestor, anima mortuum, mortification, marble tomb, vials of wrath, fathomage, and crimson moonlight
I love tier lists! And metal.
ich bin perfekt zu dem punkt gesprungen wo du gesagt hast für die typen die vorgespult haben XD
Good content! Keep going
@Farvann : Crossover / crossover thrash metal was a thing back in the 80s 90s, it's main representative was D.R.I and S,O.D and it was basically hardcore (punk) bands that started to include thrash metal riffing and song structure. No metalcore thus.
I have some pondering to do...
You'd probably change your opinion on Metalcore Farvann if you heard bands like Converge, Misery Signal, 7 Angels 7 Plagues, Shai Hulud etc. The early metalcore is totally different that the commercialized version of the genre.
Never thought I’d hear the word Deftones come out of Farvanns mouth
dam never knew post malone was so into metal
hey farvann what's your top 3 thrash bands?
same with me korn is what got me into metal at 11
I skipped literally to the exact point where he was getting mad at people that skip 😂😂😂
Oh, poor symphonic metal. Gonna go listen to some Fleshgod Apocalypse now, I'm addicted to King. 😁
Also, I feel a bit saddened by melodeath, but... In Flames is pretty polarizing. I made it through grad school on whoracle / clayman / colony. These days it's Dark Tranquillity, Insomnium, Amorphis, Belakor and Allegaeon for me (plus classics like CoB that will never get old for me).
"for those who skipped til the end immideatly..." 💀
Thanks for the video :) I'm not an expert in any field. But if you like Black Sabbath style doom metal you can check stoner doom metal especially bands like like Electric Wizard, Acid King, Windhand.
And you should check witchfinder general
I am not a big fan of In Flames neither.
However, I really like Amon Amarth, Be'Lakor, Children of Bodom, Parasite Inc. and especially Insomnium. Discovered it some years ago and it is maybe currently even S Tier for me.
If you are into the Finnish-style Melodeath I can also really recommend Mors Principium Est, Omniun Gatherum and Kalmah
I think Jester Race era In Flames is SS tier. I just don't like Amon Amarth. Don't know why.I just can't get into.Despite everyone telling me how amazing they are.
wtf no sludge metal? who made this tierlist... also no atmo black and blackgaze... make a vid with complete one
What about SPEED/BLACK Metal? Ex: Power From Hell (my fav), Hellhammer, Midnight, Nordeath, etc
Agree with 90%. Except if I'm drunk it is me with my legs on the table and a beer in the hand watching youtube.
it's interesting seeing tier lists, cos this tier list for example is almost the complete oposite of how i would rank it. i say almost cos the "dont know" and "very good" is pretty much staying the same while the rest is very different.
also dsbm and deathcore is the same? have u listened to deathcore like at all?
Please don't tell me you thought I was serious when I said "DSBM and Deathcore are the same". That was OBVIOUSLY a joke 😁
@@Farvann alright i got u XD almost gave me a heart attack with that joke
The fact that the person who made the tier list included pirate metal and not sludge metal is very distressing.
Some doom metal bands and albums that I really enjoy a lot and can recommend to anyone interested in the genre are:
Buried at sea (Migration - 2003)
Slow (V- Oceanss - 2017)
Sea of bones (The Earth wants us dead - 2013).
Cheers! Nice video man!
I was very convinced you were a metalworker before clicking.. Guess I got a different type of metal than expected
"Metal genre" in the video title didn't help? 😄
@@Farvann idk I thought it might be jargon for like pure metals/alloys etc hahaha
You know what to do now
Thank you for this new video ☺️ !
crossover iss thrash metal and fast hardcore punk, like Wehrmacht, D.R.I and Cryptic Slaughter. Like having punky thrashmetal riffs with blastbeats or double bass drumming. I'd guess you like it when drunk or like it.
I don't love vanilla thrash metal but when you start adding thrashy riffs to say... black metal. It is sick.
Love Metal
What about industrial metal (Ministry, Rob Zombie, Fear Factory) and Gothic metal (Draconian, Tristania, Decadence Dust)?
There was no sludge and atmoblack but billion variations of core music, who came up with this list anyway?
I don't always even know what exact metal subgenres I listen to
I agree about Thrash, the problem is its one of the oldest so there's 90% shit to sift through for good stuff. The later years where experimentation started and made new genres shortly after is the best Thrash.
1988-91 (arguably 93) is GOAT’ed! :)
Vektor-Black Future
i believe in death/doom supremacy and i'll die on that hill
*Only 8 genres needed*

Extreme Metal (incl. Black, Death, Grindcore, Metalcore, Theatrical)
Progressive Metal (incl. Math Metal, Djent)
Atmospheric Metal (Avant-Garde, Doom, Sludge, Drone, Gothic, Metal-Gaze)
Nu Metal (incl. Alternative Metal, Industrial Metal, Groove Metal, Rap Metal)
Glam Metal (only 1980 & up/ not 1970's early Glam Rock)

I love all the comments saying "disappointed by the lack of *obscure genre only 3 people has of*", like, did you really expect someone to include that?
What about blackened crust gore grind with a hint of industrial? 😅
Even though I love Death and Black Metal, my favorite Genre as a whole is probably Doom Metal.
Skipped to the end but managed to skip to the real end lmao
I can explain Cross over thrash. If you didn't know thrash metal has some Punk influences. Cross over has just that ever more punk where it's more noticeable. Bands like Cryptic Slaughter, Hyrax, Municipal Waste ect..... It's literally Thrash metal with more Punk added too it
👑 *All Glory to Thrash Metal* 👑
*Proceeds to listen to 'Tempo of the Damned'*

Soooo to be the resident Christian who loves your channel, Christian metal is a HUGE blanket term haha. Every genre out there has a Christian version or a band that’s Christian that makes it, from sludge, black metal, slam, pirate metal, and whatever else u want! Haha
The truly best one tho is Diatheke. Stunning, long form melodic death metal compositions. Soo so good
isn´t christian blackmetal somewhat unofficially called White Metal?
@@AtheistDD depends on who you ask. Unblack metal is a bit more popular but makes just as little sense
doom metal is still my overall favorite metal genre. i like the lack of blastbeats, i've never learned to enjoy blastbeats.
Chads say they are all good
Finally 🤘
It's kind of neat that some people want to make such a big deal out of modern music but some of the greatest metal bands like Motorhead just say they play rock and roll what is not kind of neat are stereotypes and genres but to explain things to people they are necessary 🎸☠️
Nobody could ever tell me what Avant-Garde metal is, the only clue I got was at a concert where I saw a few of those band and I have to say, if your not sure what genre you make, say it’s avant-guard and nobody will ask further…
thrash, melodic death metal, heavy metal and metalcore are probably the best genres honestly. I listen to extreme stuff, but those 4 are more digestable.
Kawaii Metal is a Japanese style, true. It is a mix of Extreme Metal and J-pop. Sometimes it is more Heavy Metal, sometimes it sounds more Symphonic and Death Metal. Even Black Metal.
And Pop side of it can vary too, taking inspiration from classical Bubblegum to modern EDM.
Jast listen few songs by Babymetal and you will take a jist of it.
@@aloysfudanshi huh why?
kawai metal is not a musical genre.
Babymetal is Alternative Metal + Trance Metal
@@aliceakemi8513 no. It has far more metal variation than simply Alternative and Trance. As I said it has influence of Extreme Metal too. And electronically speaking it is mostly J-pop, even if there is Trance.
