@mikericharadson8983, I've always said the same thing. It's like his voice envelopes your complete body and you connect with his emotions as he sings any song. Steve "The Voice" Perry is, and always will be the greatest rock singer of all time.

'Wheel in the sky' by Journey was the song in 1978 that broke the band huge commercially... It was written before Steve Perry (vocals) joined the band but he did the studio track and it became a massive hit. 'Lights' was another huge single from the album 'Infinity' (Journey's 4th album, their first w/ Steve Perry) and the album sold 3x platinum and transformed Journey from a cult band into an arena rock sensation. Dimash is an amazing classical musician, singer, song writer with an incredible ability to replicate virtually any music he hears. Since Perry's voice is so inimitable from every possible perpective, the most Dimash could hope for, outside of replication, is to master the mechanics of what makes Perry so great and then cultivate his own tone in the genre of the great SP. There is no one comparable Steve Perry. Like some others, it's his uniquness that makes him stand alone.
The best singer that you’ve (probably) NEVER heard is Miljenko Matijević of SteelHeart. He has a range that is unbelievable. What I don’t like about Dimash and other karaoke cover RUclips singers, Tommy Johansson, etc. is that they are just trying to imitate the original singers. They don’t change it up and make it their own. It’s like, “Look at me, I can sing it too.” What’s the point in that? If I want to hear the song I’ll listen to the original unless they did something with their cover version to make it different or interesting. If it’s just karaoke, I’m not interested. Plus, in Rock music most wrote their own songs. The guy, or girl, that wrote the song, made it exactly what they wanted it to be. That’s the “art” in artist. These cover singers are NOT artists. At least not in the covers that they are doing. They need to get bands, write songs, make records, and tour, etc. You can’t even buy their “music” because it’s just RUclips videos.
@@stevenewcomer8837 so true. Steve Perry felt every word he ever sang, which is why he eventually burned out. I saw a comment the other day (and now I don't remember where) by someone who said he sat down with Steve Perry one day and was amazed when he ran through a whole bunch of singers whose style he could imitate. Mother/Father is a good example of Steve Perry singing in a different style (or really several styles), but still bringing Steve Perry authenticity to every note.
I was Freshman in high school when this song came out. Journey was my favorite band back then. I’m so very blessed to have grown up during this time. Steve Perry is the VOICE!!!
There are performers who come around and knock everyone out of the water. They are big for a short time then disappear. The ones who stay around and people talk about years later are the best. The ones who get under your skin, connect with everyone. A emotional reaction no matter the type of music they produce.
Steve's voice is a voice you can never forget. He was so awesome. This was without auto tune. This is just pure raw talent! Steve Perry's voice as far as I am concerned is the best and then Freddie Mercury. Love your reaction!
Bit of trivia for you. Steve auditioned for them several times before they finally hired him. Turns out it was his voice that skyrocketed Journey into stardom.
I was 15 years old in 1981 when I went to my FIRST Journey concert. It was ALL the things; exhilarating, exciting, thrilling, amazing. Of course I played all of their albums over and over throughout my teens and 20s but nothing compares to seeing/hearing them live when Steve Perry was singing. I went to many concerts back in the day; The Who, The Clash, Bruce Springsteen, David Bowie...but all these years later Journey remains a stand alone favorite. 🥰🔥🎤🎼🎸
Music always takes you back. But Steve Perry's voice is among the best of those time machines, where I close my eyes, and I'm back, to a time we didn't know we had it so good. So cool that he can take you back too.
Yes Steve Perry is and always will be the whole package Handsome talented legendary ! I never got to go to his concerts but seeing his videos makes me very happy !
I can tell you that Steve sounds so good live it’s almost unbelievable! I’ve seen them several times years ago. The whole band is so so talented but Steve’s voice is incredible!! I’ve never heard one wrong note or mistake seeing them live. Just fantastic! Good review TY❤✌🏻

You already know I am here for anything everything journey I am just waiting on the day you get to the Oh Sherrie song & video I need this in my life..
Lots of babies made during Journey years in music...😂 I was there, went to Journey concerts etc. There will never be another time like it! Best time ever!
I totally get transformed back in time when I hear certain music, especially Journey. I had the childhood pleasure of meeting Steve when I was a teeny bopper and he was in his thirties at the hight of Journey’s popularity. He was chillin at Tavios in Hanford, CA. People would meetup there before leaving to Visalia to cruise Moody Blvd. He was visiting family. I love it when I see younger generations enjoying non synthesized, original music.👍🏼🇺🇸
Back in the day. Sitting in my room, headphones on, Journey cranked. Black light and velvet glow in the dark posters. Wearing my Cougar boots, Canadian dinner jacket and feather earrings 😂
There's no doubt Steve Perry has an absolutely phenomenal voice, AND there are many others who also have that iconic voice. I believe music speaks to us in different ways at different times in our lives. It's etherial. We find that connection and can be transported to a different time and place. Steve Perry and Journey will always hold a special place for me, and so will a lot of other talented singers and musicians. A different time and a different season. Enjoying your 'Journey,' BP. ❤
A few years back, I heard a guy sing some Journey in the Tulsa area that made me do a double take! He sounded like the real thing, I couldn’t even get up and dance because I just had to sit and listen, I was shocked! It’s so cool to catch a good bar band like that!
First time I met Steve Perry, he and a couple of the band members drove up on motorcycles to the bowling alley and they came in to play some video games and, yes, the juke box!! Went on to meet him several times when he was in town visiting but always a nice person.
Junior year in high school for me, and the album was titled Departure, interstingly. This began another evolution for Journey, just their third album with Steve Perry. The next year Greg Rolly an incredible blues keyboard and great singer would leave the band and Jonathan Cain, classically trained, would take over on keyboards and writing colaboration with Steve and Neal. He came from a brief time in a band called the Babies. Greg Rolly and Neal left Zantana to start Journey. Greg Rolly sang lead vocal on Black Magic Woman, a Fleetwood Mac song Carlos Zantana made huge. Greg Rolly was the lead singer for Journey before Steve Perry joined Journey beginning with the album Infinity in 1977, where both men sang lead vocals. I'm from the Bay Area, and had Bay Area pride when i was young. Though Steve Perry was from central California, most of the guys are from San Francisco. Though Carlos Zantana was not from San Francisco he loved us and we loved him. He discovered a lot of Talent from the bay area and California. Just some fun trivia from a boy who grew up in the South Bay, Sunnyvale, near San Jose. Dig your stuff. Oh, and when Steve Perry joined Journey we noticed, lol. I saw them live the summer of 79 in Oakland. Are jaws were on the ground. Steve Perry live was better than the record, for us this was shocking at 14. Neal is an amazing guitar. Tight band live, great stuff, lots of fun. Did i say congratulations on the baby? Blessed kid, hes got a great, solid, father. Much respect. You know us old guys and are talking and stories and such....lol.
I was 13 yrs old when this came out.. I saw the Escape tour at 15.. my first concert outside my Delaware State Fair.. went to Philly with my sister's ex boyfriend because my parents trusted him to take me to Philly and bring me home safe.. which he did.. he didn't like the concert.. I LOVED it.. Still have to thank him forever for taking me to my first Journey concert.
I loved your commentary about how Steve Perry's voice /Journey, can take you to that place in "Journey's world" encapsulated in their performances. And yes about what the song is about: when Steve sings, hold tight, hold tight, ooh baby hold tight is exactly what you think he's singing about. People say you don't hear "The Voice", you feel The Voice of Steve Perry.
Let's just say that quite a bit of the music of the 80's was a carry over of the free love movement of the 70's. I still remember hearing this on the radio, MTV or the roller rink on Friday night couples skate. I can still see Rodney Dangerfield dancing to this song in Caddyshack.
On the radio they would play Lovin, Touchin, squeezin then go directly into City of the Angels. So whenever I hear Lovin I automatically start singing City of the angels right after it!!!
I think the greatness of a singer is how they affect an individual. You could sing all the notes on the scale, but if it doesn't touch you in some way, then it's not successful.
I was born in 1965. I love watching these video reactions with you. We could not afford cable TV so I am seeing these videos for the first time. I always loved singing along with the radio when these songs came on the radio. These reactions are a trip back in time for me. Thanks!!!!

In 2001 Miljenko Matijević was the vocalist for Mark Wahlberg’s character in the movie Rockstar in the fictional band Steel Dragon.

Saw them three times...Steve, Neil, all of them were ALWAYS perfection 🥰 💞!!!
One of the greatest bands of all-time. This is a fantastic song. Steve Perry is "the voice".
Wheel in the sky is another great one!!
What a great time to be alive growing up with The Voice! Steve Perry
Steve, Steve, Steve, we cannot say it enough. He is just magnificent.
Graduated from high school in 1982. THIS was one of the songs of my youth. Love it.
Journey is where it is at!!! Steve Perry is amazing! I love this❤
There are performers who come around and knock everyone out of the water.
80’s had the best music. We listen to everything. All the classics bands and the new artists when MTV showed music videos
@nysrcnc Yes. We did
My friend still has a "jukebox" in her family room full of her 45's from the 50's and 60's! So cool to listen too, and the machines were beautiful
Yes - these are veiled lyrics about a woman who enjoyed it.
❤❤❤❤❤My favorite singer and band of all time ❤❤❤❤❤❤
The best singer that you’ve (probably) NEVER heard is Miljenko Matijević of SteelHeart. He has a range that is unbelievable. He has, I believe, the clearest and cleanest voice, up and down the scale, in Rock history. His highs are effortless and precise. Their debut album was released in 1990 and had 2 power ballad hits, “I’ll Never Let You Go”, and “She’s Gone”, and a banger, “Can’t Stop Me Lovin’ You”. They were on tour performing in Denver off the momentum of their debut album, when a 1,000# lighting truss fell striking Mili on the back of the head and smashing his face into the stage floor, nearly taking his life. He had a broken nose, broken jaw, and a broken cheekbone, the hardest bone in the human body, and traumatic brain injuries. This screeched their career to a halt. You already know I am here for anything everything journey I am just waiting on the day you get to the Oh Sherrie song & video I need this in my life..
My favorite one from them is their last big hit, and the official video is amazing too.
"When you love a woman".
Totally agree on Perry…Otherworldly! The voice is PERFECT! He could sing anything…
Lots of babies made during Journey years in music...😂 I was there, went to Journey concerts etc. There will never be another time like it! Best time ever!
One of the titles on the jukebox is an absolute bluesy banger!
"Walks Like A Lady" is super 🔥🔥🔥!
✌️😎
I agree with you! Steve Perry will always be 1 of my all time favorite voices
You need to peep Steve Perry's "Oh Sherri" in case you missed it !!!! 👊
Love love love Steve Perry 🥰😍
The way you just described it. Steve really made some girl say ohhhhhhh.
His voice is incredible and their music makes me happy. Enjoy!
A few years back, I heard a guy sing some Journey in the Tulsa area that made me do a double take! He sounded like the real thing, I couldn’t even get up and dance because I just had to sit and listen, I was shocked! It’s so cool to catch a good bar band like that!
Open Arms
Still They Ride
Are great ballads
Their song Loving Touching Squeezing is another good un
Steve Perry is fire and will live on to infinity!
First time I met Steve Perry, he and a couple of the band members drove up on motorcycles to the bowling alley and they came in to play some video games and, yes, the juke box!! Went on to meet him several times when he was in town visiting but always a nice person.
One of my favorite Journey songs is Sweet and Simple it'll give you RnB vibes. Steve's Amazing
Teen yrs when this was out, omg the best of times, the best era ever!!
"Stone in Love" is another one that makes you happy. 🙂
Thanks!!!!
This was the beginning of music videos. People were just figuring it out.
... 44 year old song ... and whenever it comes on the radio, I crank the volume up and roll down the car windows (if I'm in the car), and sing along!!!!!
In 1980, I was dating a fella who was a musician who styled himself after Steve Perry. Watching this video brought me back to why I was attracted to him (even though Steve Perry himself was never really my type). 🤷🏼♀️ Good memories. 💜 Thank you. And yeah. Steve Perry is the voice.
Edit: wow. I am old. I used the word, “fella”. 😳
Back in the late 80s, early 90s, one of the local car dealers at that time used this song in their commercials. Brings back memories every time I hear this song.
I've always loved Steve Perry's voice but I love Freddie Mercury too. I couldn't tell you who's better they both are unbelievable ❤
The Keyboard player is none other than Greg Rollie . He's been inducted into the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame TWICE ..Once with Santana and again with Journey
There is a very good reason they called Steve Perry The Voice...
I was literally typing "Journey is a Journey right as u said it! 😆 But it's the absolute truth!! U should dive into more of Steve Perry's solo music! ❤ And NO, Dimash doesn't hold a candle to Steve!!
I miss it! Best thing the memories associated with it!
