      Watching other videos this is not a mountain bike though it has the word mountain and it’s title, so this was a pretty good video though it didn’t describe that it really is not a mountain bike another video mention that this is not for mountain trails but good old fashion neighborhood bike riding and maybe some hills but it is not a mountain bike whichVideos of shown it’s not for rough riding but it is very nice for neighborhood riding slide hills and smooth roads

    My partner and I each bought one of these bikes, and while I agree that it shouldn't be marketed as a mountain bike, it is certainly the best bike for a beginner to e-bikes in general. Yes, there are a few issues but when I consider the price difference between this and a "proper" e-bike, I have no regrets in purchasing the thing. I have been satisfied with its performance as long as I don't do any of the extreme biking tasks that you do. All in all, your review is accurate(especially about the chain falling off every now and then)

      I guess this bike will give you so many problems that it will make you hyper. I guess it's like any other Walmart bicycle that it's probably okay for very light use, like riding to a neighbor's house or sometimes like that but I'm sure that is not for any kind of rough terrain nor long distances.

    • @GreenSlug420

      It's not practical, safe, reliable and good quality. I am not trying to be rude but might as well throw that money away. The battery is cheap which makes them very susceptible to exploding.. It is worth it to spend 3 to 5 times more.

    This guy has his head up somewhere. I just bought the cruiser version, and am really happy with it. Why does he think that a $400 bike would be perfect out of the box, when you have to assemble it yourself? Kyle, I made it a few seconds in and gave up, if you're a bike guy you know how ridiculously easy V brakes are to setup. Stop being a gate-keeper. These bikes are decent for the money. I've been riding bikes for 40 years. This is my first venture into E bikes, it's cheap. Don't buy a Hyundai and whine it doesn't perform like a Ferrari...

    A 36 volt lithium powered bike with a brushless hub motor weighing in at 48 pounds for $400.
    Ten years ago, A 24 volt sealed lead acid powered bike with a brushed motor weighing in at 70 pounds (Ezip Trailz) ran you $500.
    It's nice to see how far along technology has progressed. This bike is a great deal for $400 for someone who will take it the same places the majority of us will go, which is the sidewalks and side roads. If the batteries are of any sort of decent quality and the bike isn't thrashed, a person could see a lot of use out of this value oriented machine.

    Yeah, rear hub motors are dangerous on any kind of trails. They're meant for paved, city commutes. Even a $2500 bike with a powerful 1500w rear hub motor is also horrible for trails due to the delays. You want a mid drive for that since the torque sensor is much more sensitive and will work with you over the poor cadence sensor.

This bike was perfect for what I needed it for. And I have nothing negative to say about it and I chose this bike because I didn’t want to pay 800 or 1200 for a different model. So just riding around town this bike is definitely what I needed

    I think your comparing apples to oranges. Good entry bike for light trails. Cadence sensing as you know is pretty standard on hub driven brushless motors vs torque sensing in the high end bikes. Also, you should mention customer service behind brands. Hyper founded by ex pro BMXER has excellent service and parts are available and shipped within a week vs high end brands that don’t provide the extent of parts or sevice. Just food for thought

    • @CobraKyle

      Appreciate the info Michelle. I can't speak to Hypers customer service, but I don't doubt what you say. They do make really good BMX bikes. Its a great option as a bike for the non biking spouse to keep up with you on your gravel bike. Add $15 disc brake upgrade to back as it is a simple bolt on procedure. But front fork and wheel is not disk ready. If it lasts maybe change out front fork and wheel to disc setup. But not worth throwing another $150 at it.
    Its always great fun when the wife rides on your draft in a head wind then laughs at you when she passes you going up hill.

      Jin Pak Would you be kind enough to let me know the particulars on the rear disc? The wheels are not true, so the brakes had to be dialed back. ( making them less effective.

    • @NotARealChef
      @NotARealChef 4 года назад

      @@kevinmontgomery1383 the rear wheel hub can accept disc rotor and the frame has mounts for rear disc breaks. But the front fork and front wheel hub does not have mounts. Rear is as simple as buying a set off of ebay or Amazon and installing them.
      In your case get a spoke tool off Amazon and try that first. It's cheap and keeping wheel true is very important. Lots of videos explaing how to do that.
      Note any cable disk brakes will work using existing cables. The bike comes with electronic motor cutoff on the break levers so leaving that alone and getting a set of cheap breaks off Amazon will be best.
      The upgrade to disc break has marginal gains. Good enough to easily stop the bike with only rear breaks on flats but most of the power in breaking comes from front..The brake line is not compressionless cable housing and wires so it will still feel mushy or spongy.

    This guy is a bike snob. I have had this bike for 2 years and it's great. It does need a few small upgrades and I'd recommend a new fork but other than that the battery lasts a long time. It's fast, well-built and very fun to ride. It's not for a pro but rather someone that enjoys hitting some trails from time to time (like most of us here). For a few hundred bucks you can make this a totally awesome bike. This dude should have upgraded the bike and told ya'll how to make it better, instead of just bitching about it.

    • @CobraKyle
      @CobraKyle  2 года назад +1

      Bike snob? Nah...I ride plenty of affordable bikes. I said in the video that the battery life was impressive, and that it was fun to ride on pavement. My intent behind this video was to save consumers from buying this bike thinking that it's an actual "mountain bike", and make an entertaining video. I feel like upgrading this bike would be a hassle and a waste of money. It didn't fit me, it has outdated standards that make it difficult to source parts, and by the time you do upgrade it...you've probably invested too much into it. Just my opinion. I'm happy you like yours, and feel free to make your own review about it.

    So question I looked this up at Walmart and the description saids that the run time is 1 to 2 hours does the battery deplete when you don’t use it or does it run base off of miles and how many did you get on the lowest assist level
    I only want an e bike for delivering so I’m not brand happy but I can’t find any information on total miles.

    • @CobraKyle
      @CobraKyle  4 года назад

      Hi Albert. I actually didn't even use the bike in the low setting. I was having too much fun in the max setting. I did ride 32 miles on the highest setting which was impressive. The battery itself has an on/off button, so as long as it is turned on I imagine it's depleting a bit. I think the 32 miles I got was because the bike was brand new, and that the battery would probably degrade over time. I wish I could give you a more solid answer, but I'm just not certain.

    It's not a trail bike. it's for people who want an ebike to ride on the street and want knobby tires. Why would you want an ebike for trails?

    • @CobraKyle

      I would agree it isn't a trail bike and why I stated it shouldn't be marketed as such. Don't know if you follow trends in mountain biking, but nearly every major bike company is producing electric mtb's and they are quite popular.

    Reminds me of the time I took my “off road” package rental to the top of Mauna Kea and back down the “do not go this way unless you have an off road vehicle” trail.
    We wrecked it. Hard. It was pretty funny actually. And no, we paid for it (well, our insurance did) despite pictures of the “off road” graphics we took.
    Point: you can break ANYTHING if you don’t understand it’s limits.
    You took a 400$ Walmart bike on a trail that would thrash most $2000 stock “real” MTB’s (I know this because the reviews of THOSE laugh harder than you at their “capability”…. Some people are just never happy unless it’ll navigate Everest).
    So congrats. What’s next? Going to take a submarine from a happy meal down the Mariana Trench?
    Gosh. I wonder what’ll happen????
    For 400$ show us an ALTERNATIVE. Let alone a viable one. I bet $400 is around what you spend on a pedal. A single one…. Before you tackle the trails, and that’s awesome, but it’s not the purpose of this bike.
    I think it’s far more funny you didn’t realize that…

    Lots of, probably even most, big box "mountain" bikes, both electric and entirely human powered, aren't.
    They're "mountain bike style" commuter bikes.
    Some of the Kent bikes even have warnings in the manual stating that they're not actually intended for mountain biking.

    Mixed feelings. You could probably make about the same video with a non-powered $150 Walmart mountain bike, which is what this is, only with a motor. I'd be a little a little cautious of any mountain bike at this price range, $400 really just begins to open the door to adequate mountain bikes - that's about the price of a pair of Rockshox Judy Gold forks without the rest of the bicycle.
    Having said that, the last time I was riding at a competitive level, Scott had still not discovered suspensions. The decades since then have not been especially kind, and I find the hills are getting steeper and the headwinds a little stronger. I'm also not going to see any jump in income soon unless social security has a massive overhaul.
    So this looks pretty intriguing for somebody to use on the street at an affordable price. I don't need an e-bike that can smoke the rear tire. Their city bike looks tempting, but our street maintenance is pretty lousy and mountain bike wheels seem to hold up better. I'd get this, put a couple of Continental 2" street tires and a decent rack on it and call it an urban assault vehicle.
    It would let me stay on a bike for another few years, and I could stop having to do dirty tricks to the grandkids bikes like deflating their tires and adjusting the brakes to rub so I can keep up...

  • @empirestate8791

    To be fair, it's actually a pretty good road bike. Would be good for a casual cyclist or a commuter. Could go on some dirt paths as long as they're not too steep or bumpy. It's fatal flaw is the mountains!

    Hilarious video! Glad there's brave riders like you to take these insane risks so others don't have to. I just bought one of these to use as a winter work bike, so I'm not expecting much. I do like that this is a 26er, and a small-ish frame at that. I'm 5'7" so It works for me. (plus I still have a set of 26" winter tires around here to use) That said, I'm installing a disc brake on the rear before I even start to ride it. It has an IS disc mount on the frame and the rear hub takes a 6-bolt rotor. I'm planning on swapping out the steel crankset for a spare used alloy set I have sitting around. I was wondering if I could switch around the PAS sensor to the non-drive side while I do this?

    • @patricktaylor4997
      @patricktaylor4997 3 года назад

      Swapping PAS to the non-drive side works! Need to take the sensor out of its bracket and turn it around. (and follow the arrows for the magnet ring) Note, besides having a cheap steel crankset, it also has a weird bottom bracket. Cartridge on the drive side and cone & bearing ring on the non-drive side. (the sight of an old-school lock-ring on the non-drive cup had me worried) How weird is that? 86ed it along with the cranks.

    Can someone who’s actually owned and used this ebike answer my question:
    Being that this is a pedal assist bike, in Low, medium and high mode, is the motor supposed to keep running until you stop peddling? Obviously after it’s been activated while you pedal.
    Mine in Low and Medium mode will give me a good push upon peddling but after 3 seconds, the motor turns off but the control interface stays lit. Yes, on a full battery. on High mode, the motor continues running but sometimes it’ll turn off while on at a decent speed, and then back in seconds later (I don’t know if it’s because it shuts off after a certain speed to protect the battery/motor from being overloaded)
    Also: when I’m using Low or Medium mode, I’m in 3rd or 4th gear.
