- Pallet To Nelson Bench £2000 or Failure!
In this video I decided to build the beautiful Nelson bench table using reclaimed timber ie pallet wood. The mission was to sell the table for my labour fee however I was unsuccessful.
I will add the free plans as soon as Jakob has completed them.

There are no failed projects, just happy little pieces of firewood.😂
Haha brilliant. 😂
I think this design is just for a few. I made one for myself, a few years back and the only people that were impressed were woodworkers. But I like it and might do another one, since my skills have improved. Great build!
Thanks mate, I love the design as well.
Great video. 😄😄
👍👍👍Thanks Karl.
That is a nice bench! Shame you didn't sell it but the Charity will do well from it! #Pro Tip!!!!
Great video Karl I will for sure be making use of your plans the bench looks great and as ever you two done a fantastic job. I know it can be disheartening sometime but please know we appreciate and enjoy everything you guys do.
Looking forward to the next project
Thank you Liam, jakob is making the plans as we speak and I'll add them as soon as they are ready. Thanks for all your support it's really appreciated. 🙂
Nice Job !!!!😊😊😊😊😊
Cheers Michael 😊
Cracking video again. It’s deffenatly not a failure. It may not earn money in the manor you intended but it sounds like it will earn some for a very worth charity at an auction. Some times a win doesn’t alway look how we expect but they are still wins regardless.
Well done for building a lovely piece for the right reasons.
Really nice bench Karl, but then you started with a pallet the likes of which I've never seen in years of skip diving! ( even tho it did keep trying to bite you) 😀👍
Cheers mate, haha ye we get some pretty nice pallets in Hull 😄
Price it much higher £500 bench and call it George Nelson "style" bench. This bench made by Vitra is ~£950 from The Conran Shop.
Hey-up Karl, Great vid and build as always. I can't believe nobody wanted it, you were giving it away at 20 quid, I would have driven around to your place and picked it up if I'd known about it. Anyroad, donating it to charity shows what a true gentleman you are, regards, Fred
Cheers Fred, I was actually trying to sell for 400 pounds, I paid for a advert on on Facebook Market place for 20. I didn't explain it well at all in the video.
Serious question do you think that the low price meant people thought it was cheap and therefore poorly built. Do you think £100 might have generated more interest from the punters?
Hi Anthony I totally ballsed up in the writing of that statement, I should of said I paid for a £20 advert on Facebook the actual cost was £400 for the bench. Sorry I should of checked that better before releasing the video.
Cracking video Karl. Much better explanation of the trenching feature than I ever give 🤣🤣 Great points at the end too about selling. That's exactly what I'm experiencing. With the 'mass produced' stuff, we just can't compete. Commissions is certainly a safer route. Cheers buddy.
Cheers mate, really I should of known better.
M8 a vsbt believe u didnt manage sell that it's beautiful am gonna look to attempt one these muself in the coming weeks like u a dont have buyer for it but we'll see how it goes. Hats off to u though for donating it to charity big love brother they'll be pleased with your donation!🏴👍
I have several items for sale on market place at the moment with no sales only silly offers normally my stuff sells quickly as not over priced but not this year I think with the cost of living most people that use Facebook just don’t have the spare money at the moment, you would have thought that would have sold straight away I feel your frustration keep up the good work 👍
Cheers mate, ye I know lots of us are feeling the pinch at the moment. Best of luck with your sales.
beautiful bench Karl. Also what a bloody stella pallet!!!! 🤣
Ye what a find, my buddy was throwing it away so a napped it straight away 😅
Top video pal, never ever a fail mate just great honest advice from you as always Power to HULL 💪
Thank you Alfie 😊
Great video mate, shame it didn't sell! Going to a great cause too though mate. I'm apprehensive about selling stuff on marketplace, usually because there are some proper nutters that end up messaging you! Hope you're well mate
I had to look twice or even thrice at £20, i agree with previous comments, you under sold it, or not as is the case😢. Charity sale, offers please may have been another route.
I mate I totally ballsed up in writing that description, it was a £20 payed advert the table was priced at £400. I them did just what you said asked for offers. I'm such a div sometimes I should of double checked what I'd written.
The bench looks great Karl, well done mate. I'm still a bit sus about that pallet though 😄😉. Seriously that was a great build and donating it a veteran's charity will earn you much good karma my friend. Keep up the good work. All the best.
Thank you Brian 😊 much appreciated mate.
Great video m8, shame you cant sell it. If youre goin to builders central at the NEC, drop it off at my house and i'll ave it
Cheers Steve, unfortunately I'm not going to Maker's Central this year. 😕 Thank you though:))
Mate, if I was there I would gladly hand over 20 pounds. People don't know quality when they see it. Some great tips as well. Cheers mate. 🇦🇺🇬🇧🍺🍺👍
Looks brilliant to me, there are a good few ppl in your area who have missed out on a bargain mate
Thanks mate, their all to busy shopping in IKEA 🤣
@@karlpopewoodcraft they must have bloody coke in their head mate - rocks 😩
I agree, looks brilliant! Some people just don't know a good thing, and a bargain at that, when they see it! If I wasn't a gazillion miles away, I would buy it!
@julietphillips1991 Thank you Juliet 😊
Great build Karl, the beginning had me thinking though. Your far from all that. And yes some people don’t see value for money aye… pallets are a strange thing to build with but there is a billion hidden secrets once you start building with them….😂😂😂 great video mate. 🎉🎉
Thank you Ned 😊😊
Ha! Stop lying Karl, you know that pallet was part payment for the last delivery to Jesper ;) Looks like a fun build either way and I can see why that design has stood the test of time to become a classic. Need to move to London to access the yuppie crowd who'd snap that up :P
Thanks James and shhhhh I'm playing a double bluff 🤣 ye hull just has either no money or no appreciation of nice hand made furniture for thr most part anyway, there is a few people who do.
I feel kike the only reason this hasn't sold is because of the legs! Would have been better to have some steel legs made or brought and then accounted for them in the selling price.
The top looks amazing, to good for some 4x2.
2000k?
Ye that's how much these Nelson Benchs sell for.
I'll send you some failed projects that'll dry them tears dude 😂 Gotta be 10k worth of wood, but then I'll die and someone will make a killing 🤣
Haha 😄 I bet there's some stunning pieces as well. We should open a shop, I know Keith has several items as well 🤣
I'd be first customer through the door!🏴👍🫡
@@michaelwillson6847 haha brilliant.
@@karlpopewoodcraft I do it cause I enjoy it and for content, but those vids all flop too - I’m like what the fuck am I doing on RUclips then 🤦🏻♂️
@@HewAndAwe same same mate, depressing.
Karl, you and I are both old enough to know by now that the world is just full of miserable little farts and nomatter what you make it's just ot enough for them, unless you offer to give it away for free oh and deliver it and set it up for free and not to forget the last thing, go back every year and reapply more finish. Only then will they consider the item good enough for their little sad lifestyle. 😅😢😂. Now thats off one chest, the bench turned out really good mate especially when you consider the fact that you made it from a pallet albeit a posher looking pallet 😅😊. You've probably done the right thing by donating the bench to one of your local charities, they will get waymore than the 20 squidlies you was wanting to sell and donate it for. As always buddy 💯% 👍.
P.s The "Pro Tip " comment had me howling, you wouldn't believe the amount of time I've heard this in a video and chringed😮🤪.
Thank you Simon 😊 totally agree as well 👍 👏
£20 for your bench is very cheap
I made a mistake in the editing, it was a £20 paid advertising campaign on Facebook Market place, the bench was for sale for £350.
There’s no logic to what people buy and what they don’t
Definitely mate.
-£2000k = -£2,000,000 just saying
Say away mate, I'm dyslexic so often make these mistakes if you watch the video you may notice more as I have watching it back but heyho that's just me.
