  • Star Wars has undergone various unsavory changes since the inception of the "Special Edition" which has continued its downward spiral into the DVD and Blu-ray releases as well.
    And while it can be argued that not all the changes were terrible, others have scarred the series with the overall lack of sense that some of them make.
    So between things that are just frustrating changes to deal with, as well as things that just outright don't make any sense, these are my top five least favorite changes to the original Star Wars Trilogy.

    Boba Fett his voice was changed because he's a clone. It makes sense. Also, I think replacing the emperor was fine. The old one looks weird.

    Actually, the Coruscant scene was not to remind us of how bad the prequels were, because the Coruscant scene was actually added before the prequels existed. The Coruscant scene was added in 1997, two whole years before the Phantom Menace. Not just that, 1997 wasn't the first appearance of Coruscant either. Coruscant's first appearance was in 1991, in the Expanded Universe novel, Heir to the Empire, which was apart of the Thrawn Trilogy. In the story, after defeating the Empire, the Rebels had to capture the imperial capital, CORUSCANT, to set up the New Republic, and since then, it became a very commonly featured planet in the Expanded Universe.
    Not just that, the concept of Coruscant dates back even earlier. In a 1981 version of the script for Return of the Jedi, the imperial capital, Had Abaddon, was going to make an appearance. It was a city planet. However, due to technical limitations, the planet was never added, and most of its scenes were changed to the Death Star II. Not just that, Coruscant's DNA traces back even further. In early versions of the script of the FIRST Star Wars film, so before it was even released in 1977, the imperial capital was also going to make an appearance, which in one script was even called Alderaan. It was never specified it was a city planet, though. However, once again, due to technical limitations, the planet was never added. So before you call Coruscant, "a planet from the prequels", think again.

    Best changes:
    1. More Biggs in Episode IV. There was an added scene of someone approaching Luke. This was Biggs (who was the last one killed before Han saves the day) and clears Luke to blow up the death star. He is standing up and we see Biggs clearly. The original, we only see a closeup of his face.
    3 worst changes:
    1. Hayden at end of ROTJ: explanation needed?
    2. Dialogue change was either not necessary or stupid!
    3. The adding end scene in ROTJ: It felt so prequel (1999-2005) instead of how the three films was going. The 1980's look. The new stuff was not necessary!

      if u watch them in order of episode it will made sense and it is who he sees himself as due to him regretting his choice to go to the dark side as he has the power to overthrow sidious, he had his wife also obiwan and yoda both saw themselves as wise old jedi near their ends and they accepted death as jedis

    I'm here to defend Hayden and the prequels. The prequels weren't bad, they just have a bad reputation. I agree Hayden should not be a ghost in ROTJ, but he did a great job as Anakin the prequels.

    It's like you were reading my mind! I had seen the 3 original movies in the theater & had never seen any if the changes until I watched them today in TNT. None of the changes were necessary!

      My first exposure was with those last VHS releases of the original theatrical versions. It's kinda interesting to see younger people who have ONLY seen the updated versions, and explain to them that there's better version out there. A younger roommate of mine even pointed out how weird he felt that song was in Jabba's palace, completely not knowing that the original didn't include that at all.

      Look, I might seem biased but if anyone rants about Hayden again I will be pissed as everyone has sited his portrayal as whiny, bitchy and monotone as fuck and now they're just beating a dead horse because as much as everyone loved Shaw, he's dead and looked like a granddad so if they wanted to CGI his Anakin into VIII I'm down but they would get Hayden to do the voice anyway so it seems really redundant anyway. My point is that I have grown up with Hayden being my Anakin, or rather the Anakin I know so that is more moving to me to see him back in the light so do me a favour, please leave it be because like him or not Hayden will be Anakin if he returns so don't bitch about it please

    First, I say you just about nailed it. The best part of the celebration at the end of Jedi was the music. I liked it much better than Yub-Yub.
    Second, it makes me glad I have the trilogy on laserdiscs. These ARE the versions you're looking for.
    Seriously some of the changes remind me of Spielberg digitally removing the guns from ET. Really? Gov't agents without guns? That's the real fantasy.
    The change I hated most in ANH, was removing one, short shot of an X-wing flying across the Death Star. Just a nice cut that cemented the reality for me.
    All that said, I've been rewatching the original trilogy on Bluray. So far I haven't worked up the stomach to watch the prequels....

      +Jay Abramson Thank you!
      I've heard all about the laserdisc versions, and am definitely a long way from ever having the means to acquire them. There is however a huge fan project that's been done called the Despecialized Editions. It takes a little bit of internet know-how to acquire, but very worth it! Basically they're Blu-ray quality versions of the original theatrical versions of the original trilogy.

      +Loud Guy Media now if one of my 4 players will actually work.....
      There was a boxed set of LD's that came out in the '90s that I believe were before the special editions. I'll have to dig them out.

    I just don't see the point in all of these unnecessary changes, I'm too young to have seen the film in cinemas or the original version, yet I'm stuck with terrible CGI and Greedo shooting first.

      +Spencer Rahal Haha, I guess for me there's only so much I could be mad about with the original trilogy. Maybe one day I'll whip up an unrated version of this same vid and throw in a bunch more profanity to fully illustrate the insanity of some of these changes.

    Another problem with the 2004 release. At the end of Jedi, Lucas inserted the Jedi Temple into the scene of the celebration on Coruscant. Why in the holy hell would the Jedi Temple be standing 20+ years after the destruction of the Jedi Order? WHY?!?!?!?! Because George Lucas is an asshole, that's why.

    • @FafGuy
      @FafGuy  8 лет назад

      +rogermurph101 Seriously though!! The inclusion of those things from the prequel trilogy are so odd... Even more so since the Special Editions were BEFORE the prequels. Like, did Lucas not have the notion planned at all for Episode 3 and the essential destruction of the Jedi? Let's of course not forget that the destruction of the Jedi was already known based on Ep. 4, which makes it that much more weird!

    • @rogermurph101
      @rogermurph101 8 лет назад

      +Loud Guy Media The last changes Lucas made to the original films was in 2004, I believe. He had already added scenes including locations from the prequels, to supposedly tie the two trilogies together, like adding scenes from Naboo and Coruscant. Then he went back and put in details like the Jedi Temple, supposedly to make them "better". But that is just the worst! It should not be there! Just like Jar Jar.

    • @FafGuy
      @FafGuy  8 лет назад

      There was another round of changes made with the Blu-Ray releases too.
      If you're curious as to exactly what they were, there's lists out there that detail all the changes and what releases they occurred on.
      But be warned... They're infuriating!

    • @user-od7el8yc9k
      @user-od7el8yc9k 3 года назад +1

      The Jedi Temple was never destroyed. It was only damaged. Why would the empire waste time removing a temple where an already defeated cult used to live? Don't need to be so mad about it. Alos, George isn't an asshole. He created star wars, keep that in mind.

  • @radpreacher

    The Greedo shooting first.It is only Modern PCism that makes it wrong for Solo to shoot first. Greedo was not there to talk to Han and make friends he was going to drag him off to Jabba dead or alive, and it appear that dead was fine with Greedo. Han is a survivor in this tough galaxy, some times shooting first is the only option.

      "close the blast door" was not a Special Edition change. It was in the 1977 mono theatrical version of the film. It just didnt make it into the first VHS release of the film.

    Actually I kind of agree. Even though Boba Fett is a clone, that doesn't mean he has to have the same voice as his host, Jango Fett. Jango specifically said "Unaltered Clone" as in no age acceleration. What if he also meant "I don't want him to have the same voice as me when he's older as well."
