    Thank you. I try to put leds in Honda Scoopy's. Would never think that the lights would be AC. 👍
    I just found H1 AC lightbulbs with integrated coverter to DC.

    Couple things not quite right about the rectifier:
    Firstly that rectifier looks like a 25A (not Watt) rectifier, these can handle 300W although you will need to strap it to a suitable heat sink if you want to draw that much current. You will only need one for all your lights and still have plenty of headroom.
    Secondly the output is not DC out of the rectifier, a full wave rectifier simply flips the negative half of the AC wave and makes it positive, the resulting voltage while entirely positive will have a very large ripple. To fix the ripple you need to add in a filtering capacitor, something like a 8000uF 50V capacitor. This will reduce the ripple greatly get your closer to DC, this could also allow you to run other accessories off the same power source, is fairly simple to add in a simple DC voltage regulator that will give you a stable 12V for a few dollars worth of components.
    A very important note with the capacitor, the polarity is important, make sure connect the negative side (it will be clearly labeled on the capacitor) to the negative terminal on the rectifier, if the capacitor is installed the wrong way they tend to explode.

    thanks for posting. i might actually use this on a bicycle, the cheapy bolt on electrical generator is rated at 12V but with a meter and the gears maxed out it jumped all the way to 39 V AC.

    Thanks for the video! Do you have an extra battery connected to the rectifier from which you power the lights, or do you power the lights from the rectifier itself straight from the stock AC circuit?

    Hi. Have u measured the output voltage after connecting bridge rectifier to ac current, how much it gives in idle condition and after giving accelerator. I had done this, the output voltage was 25v DC and after giving acceleration it was 40v DC, this is without any load. What should I do now.

      My led could tolerate 10 to 30 volt, I had 18ish at high rpm so I was on, can't tell you why you have that much. 40 is a lot

    The LED headlight i ordered for my bike is a 16W light that takes between 10-30Volts for input. My stator gives out 12vac at idle but outputs to over 29vac at speed. Im assuming yours does this too so does the bridge regulate the output to a constant DC voltage or does that also change with the varying AC input?

    • @vegasromaniac
      @vegasromaniac  7 лет назад

      with my first rectifier it did fluctuate , but than I broke it in a crash so I installed a new ac to dc rectifier and it has something in it, that kept the voltage around 12 all the time .

      Vegas RoManiac so im doing this on a klx110 (pitbike) and it also has a low DC output voltage (about 4-5 volts) so im gonna use a voltage step up that will bring it to about 28v DC. It will be easier for me that way and cheaper. Thanks for the quick response tho!

    Great video... I'm trying to do the same on an XR650R (Euro).
    I want to put in a full bridge rectifier from the AC. But the AC for the lights is just one wire from the stator and an earth !! A full bridge rectifier NEEDS 2xAC inputs or the voltage will be halfed
    Where do you take your two inputs from ??? And where do you ground your capacitor/lights etc etc.
    Many thanks in advance. Great vids. Keep it up :)

      I've watched it already. :)
      I tried a bridge rectifier from two AC wires from my stator today. I get DC however its like 40-50V .. I noticed you don't use any kind of regulator. Is your AC already regulated before rectifying ??
      I've bought a conventional single phase 'four wire' reg
      ect' so I'll try that when its delivered. The capacitor didn't lower the voltage on mine.

    • @vegasromaniac
      @vegasromaniac  9 лет назад +1

      Cynthia Sosa yes, and this video has nothing to do with the blinkers, just put led's and will work fine .. the only think is that if they blink fast or don't blink at all you need a resistor on the blinker wire , some of them come with the resistor already in but if not you need a resistor or to replace the blinker relay with a led blinker relay ..

      another thing i wanted to mention is that i bought a light bar 12 led.s its flood and spot u put a link on, i dont think i need to put any of the things u mentioned on my crf 250l i think its dc already?
      if so i just hook it up straight right?

    • @vegasromaniac
      @vegasromaniac  9 лет назад +1

      Cynthia Sosa yes if it is DC than you are fine .. Make sure you don't go over the wattage of the bike of you overheat and burn the stator , if you light bulb was incandescent and 30 watt before and you put a 30 watt LED you are fine .. just don't Put 60 watt led .. on a 30 watt system, also you will know if it is DC or ac as soon as you turn them on , if they Flicker with the engine the system is AC, also if your battery goes down fast and your bike doesn't start , you exceeded the wattage ! Let me know how it worked out for you !

    The problem with this is that the ignition system has to stay AC and half the AC current travels through the frame . This needs to be isolated from the negative side of the DC at the headlamp housing for example.
    I will soon be selling AC/DC converters with twin channels for high and low beam and built in capacitors especially designed for Motorcycle LED headlamps on ebay. With world shipping.

    Ok, I'm confused...I thought main concern is about AMP draw...(?)
    If LED light bars are DC current, what's the advantage of converting from a connection past your stator, when you can connect the bar directly to your battery with a wiring harness & switch?

    • @vegasromaniac
      @vegasromaniac  10 лет назад

      great question, I did that first, connected to the battery and I got about 30 minutes of ride before my bike run down the battery and didn't start
      here is the trick, the Voltage Regulator rectifier on this bike has 2 separate circuits, one DC for 20 watt and one AC for about 80 watt (why you ask, the original YZ when built only had AC no starter motor no battery no lights, ac is all they needed) but then they made the WR450f and needed dc for the starter motor and the battery so they split the stator in 2 separate circuits, they left 80 watt AC and kidnaped 20watt for the DC system
      so that's why you need to steal the power from the Headlamp ac and covert it to DC so you can run led because if you run them of the DC system that is already on the Bike you will take more out than you put in and Voilla you run the battery down.
      And Remember amps is not a concern if you run LED they don't have a initial DRAW of power, watt is what you need and remember the formula volt x amp = watt

    I agree a rectifier will convert ac to Dc but it will be pulsating. You will need a good sized capacitor to smooth out the ripple. It will need to be a couple thousand ohms with a volt rating higher than your ac. Just trying to help..
