    Ooops. A note about the R Clips from Mike Northeast (I called them split pins!).
    "We would say if anyone has any issue step one would be contact the installation centre - and or get serviced, and we take it from there - its not very common at all, maybe since 2017 we only had 3 people from memory with this issue, and to be honest , if you were local we would have you in, check all pins are correct size (new batch and the zinc plating may be thicker) and ensure all the holes are clean and well lubricated and if need be run a ream through all the holes to ensure no debris or corrosion causing the binding. If you are local we can do this at our Hayling island HQ PO11 for you, but if you can add something to put this into perspective - none of the people who contacted me worried have the issue - thank you and let me know when down and we can get it checked/serviced ok, thanks Mike"

    I use split pins/R clips on a storage locker and have to remove them each time I access that particular locker and have a "handy hint" to remove & stop them being lost when removed ....
    Use a carabineer and hook the clip end. Then you can pull on the carabineer to remove the pin (much easier then pulling the clip itself). When off, the clip is then safely stored on the carabineer and won't get lost (or swallowed in your case ;) ). Then when ready, push it back in place, open the carabineer to separate.
    I've been using that method for a few months now and it is so much better then having to search around where I put the clips each time. Hook the carabineer on your keyring and everything is kept neatly together.

    Maybe a useful tip on the UP Car Key? get a "surf key" made. i.e. a key with the blade cut to match the lock but not programmed to the car. You can then use that when towing to keep the ignition on, but it will never start the engine. May be handy for when you park up and some nerdowell sees a car with keys in it and thinks his luck is in. Get a plain flat all-metal blank and it will be clear it is not a "proper" car key.

    Hi bob another comprehensive good video like the idea of the D clips with the R clip for extra security . I brought the same A frame on your recommendation 2 things I’ve done though regarding key I had a spare blank key cut but not programmed so it will turn on the car but won’t start it then I use door lock to lock car .
    And lost so many triangles due to suckers coming loose I’ve now attached the triangles to the sides of number plate with double L shape brackets .
    Been followed by the police while towing and spoken to a few too and had no issues Them saying as long as triangles are fitted there’s no issues

      Thank you. The blank key is a good idea, I'll get that done when we get home.

    Great video Bob! I have a Tow A Frame too and I have been having issues with one side button not popping up to lock the leg when I drive the van forward. Hope that makes sense! Your method of extending and locking the legs before hitching to the van is way better! I’ll try that in future. Many thanks for all your incredibly useful videos! Keep up the good work!

      Thank you. There's no need to reverse with the car attached. Simply disconnect, wedge up the A Frame and drive the car. Just like a motor mover on a caravan!

    Hi Captain
    On my A Frame over here in Oz . The locking rods are fitted with Black rubber Concertina Boots over them , fixed at each end with cable ties . Allows me to really grease up the rods and doesn’t let any salt or grime into the fittings(popped a pic on Facebook ) 👍🏻👍🏻🇦🇺great vid as ever .

    Concerning the 'Motor Home Towing' sign, Tow A Frame did not supply that sign when I had my car modified in March 2023 at there workshop on Hayling Island. It was suggested that if insurance companies saw a towing sign on the back of the car they could deny a claim as they would assume the car was being illegally towed!!

    • @BobEarnshawMoHo
      @BobEarnshawMoHo  Год назад

      Thanks, I did wonder where that came from. Seems a bit odd, a sign surely can make no difference to wether it's legal or not, especially as your own insurance company has been informed that you tow a car behind you and it's third party cover.

    My mechanic advised me to remove some of the keys from my key ring as over time the extra weight would damage the ignition lock Great video it was interesting to see how your towing system operates We flat tow a suzuki grand vitara using a Tow Pro Elite system which is attached to our car similar to yours, but has a connection at the tow vehicle which slides into the tow bar, so no tow ball required

    Thanks Bob for in-depth video. Personally, i think I’d rather go back to towing a caravan . My motorhome gives me all of the facilities wherever we travel......which is exactly why I changed to a motorhome in the first place. Thanks for showing sir.

    My LNB frame has locking arms rather than a sprung pin....a bit more robust.
    Plus the car has an electric connector fitted to the front of the car....then a cable connects to both car and van.

    What number plates at the rear towed car or towing car, a caravan/trailer needs the towing car plate.

    Just a shame they don't seem to want to flog the A-frame separately from the full system, really, given that'd be a cracking upgrade from ours, but no way am I changing systems at this stage. I mean, when it works, it's a brilliant thing, cos getting the car lined up with the van can be a proper ache in the wotsits - and that frame itself does away with all the heartache. No "right a bit, back bit, left a bit, come straight, right, right, oh B*gger"! Want!

    • @BobEarnshawMoHo
      @BobEarnshawMoHo  Год назад +3

      No. So many reasons. I can maneuver both vehicles as they both have an engine. I can drop the motorhome off for a service and go home in the car and vice versa. I can go places that a big car or motorhome cannot. I don't need to have a large gas guzzler at home when I want to nip down to the shops. It's easy to tow a small trailer than a large one. And when all's said and done I still have a motorhome with all the benefits that has.

    • @BobEarnshawMoHo
      @BobEarnshawMoHo  Год назад +1

      That has never happened. As in a caravan if it became detached it would be sitting there with brakes applied.
