Anyways thank you very much welcome to the channel were absolutely excited to have folks like you on board
My first step dad always had me watch him work on his projects... he never specifically showed me HOW to do anything but always told me that if it could be done by hand he could do it, and if he could do it, I could do it too.
Driving 6 hours to Mexico for the holidays , I always see a lot of cars in-tow and impressed that they have 2-3 cars all hooked to each other. I am interested in just towing 1 to take over to Mexico, about 365 miles. This video is super helpful!
Around here we call those "Mexican Trains" you see them everyday after 5PM on 65 going southbound. Saw two that impressed me the other day, a V6 Camero flat towing 8000lbs worth of 2 Dodge caravans. And a Dodge caravan towing 2 more dodge caravans behind it, that's 12,000 lbs train with brakes rated for 5500 lbs GVWR. Smdh The state troopers LOVE to see those rolling through their country. lol
I’ve seen that too and Alway thought, “I KNOW THATS ILLEGAL and at WORST UNSAFE!” 😂 how can you stop correctly and if just one nut breaks loose in the middle automobile it’s a disaster waiting to happen!🤔😡
Reminded me of that saying, Who dares wins! Think about stuff, do some research and surprise yourself. I always investigate to see if I can do more myself, pray about it & it is rewarding & gets us more confidence
Now what are the chances that after spending hours contacting dealers, and parts departments, and making the dreadful call to service, the first RUclips video that came up during my search was this one. It was practical, direct, researched, and tested. What more can a viewer wish for?⭐⭐⭐⭐🌟 This Clay Way video is exactly what the user subscribed to, thanks!
This is an absolutely outstanding video. Friday I have to tow a 3500 lb truck with a 4000 lb truck, and have been calling U-Haul and all kinds of companies trying to rent a tow dolly and they are trying to get me to rent a truck from them saying the tow dolly is not sufficient enough to pull it. It. I looked up tow bars, all kinds of other things. And came across this video when I searched how to connect the tow bar to my truck. Due to your amazing comments about President Trump and how you didn't like him at first. But you did like to feed your family, I am now subscribing. Not only was this a very helpful video for what I needed it for, but I'm a hands-on kind of gal. So this is not intimidating for me at all. Thank you so much for all the information!!! You look forward to seeing many more videos.. EDIT: Shared this on my FB to get you more subs!! Keep up the great work on educating others how to do things themselves and not just pay someone else to do it.. I love learning new things and saving money in the process
Great video, man. I bought a new tow bar 15 years ago and never had the courage or need to use it, but I sold my car trailer and now have to tow my small tractor about 15 miles. You have given the the knowledge and confidence to bolt it on and give her a go, at slow speed, anyways. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Can you send me some pictures to my Clays AC and auto repair Facebook page. Direct message me through there if you don’t mind I’ll make a post about it on my channel
Great stuff. I actually towed a crown Victoria about 5 years back with one of these and mounted the tow bar attachments under the bumper and accidentally totaled my crown Victoria. It ripped off during a turn and flew into a ditch and it was a slow turn so naturally I’ve been skeptical. But this video made me pretty confident in towing again. Thank you!
Turns out, I AM living that good ol vanlife and my Sprinter DID break down 600 miles from home and that’s how I landed on this video 😂 thumbs up and comments for your algorithm my man 💯
Very good I actually made a video specifically geared towards doing this with a Sprinter if you have not found it…. Let me know. I’ll send you the link but it’s under my Sprinter playlist and it has the Sprinter attached to the back of my Land Rover.
I found this video really helpful. I have to pull my toyota camry from California to Kentucky, and I've seen people pulling cars, but I had no idea how to install it. Thank you so much for the really detailed explanation amigo.
Im glad I found your video, I need to take my truck to the dealership for some maintenance that will take a couple days and I dont want to pay twice for a tow truck, I could use this to pull my van behind my truck to the dealer, then come back for it later, just throw it in the back once im done with it. Alot cheaper than a tow dolly.
Just be careful, if your vehicle is not designed to be pulled with all wheel wheels on the ground make sure you remove the driveshaft or if the vehicle runs you can start it up and put it in neutral When I did mine, I was not going that far. If I would’ve went much further, I’m certain it would’ve damaged the transmission.
Outstanding video, you explained everything very well! Last year I flat towed my 04 Civic 600 miles with my 05 Civic using a Harbor Freight tow bar on its bumper bar like you showed and magnetic lights on the back and it worked great other than the towed car trying to wander around because its steering and suspension was in bad shape at the time. I'm sure now that I rebuilt the 04's steering and suspension and it drives correctly it would tow well if I ever need to tow it again.
I used a fence post with a 2" trailer hitch from harbor freight and towed my 89 honda accord 2,300 acrost the US with my VW golf VR6 .It worked perfectly. key in and battery disconnect
@@ShellyspurrSure they do. The bumper itself is steel, but you have to remove the exterior plastic bumper cover to get to it. The bumper cover typically has a Styrofoam inner core that stays in the cover as well. You need to remove the plastic cover from pretty much every bumper to use a tow bar and bolt the brackets to the metal.
“You’re probably smarter than the ones who made it” hit me really hard. Because I remember taking apart my radio once and it was so goddamn messy and cheaply thrown together, now I have a beautiful touchscreen with amazing speakers and microphones. It’s. Nice. Pretty crazy when you really do think about all the things people put into their cars just because car makers aren’t the most foreword thinking individuals lol
Hey just wanted to thank you. 20 years mechanic work, also buying selling trading cars. Constantly towing them all sorts of crazy ways Never used a tow bar, never told how they work all these years, I thought this was how they worked but wanted to be sure just because I was curious. Sorry I only watched a few minutes of the video but it isn't rocket scienevealthoughim sure there a re many people who used the great amount of info you put out there for us. I subscribed to your channel though, you have a mentality like me, if someone else made it you can probably make it better lol.
Yes, thank you I certainly did the best I could to try to make it seem simple and understandable. I watched a couple of other videos before I made this one. That’s not normally what I do I generally just make what I think needs to be made but in this situation, I didn’t see anybody explain why the vehicle just doesn’t go crazy so that was kind of the highlight of this video and I also wanted to show people that there’s cost effective ways of towing your vehicle. So I appreciate the kind words and I hope it all works out for you well.
I'm turning my 2002 s-10 into a towable camper and had no clue on how to use a tow bar. Thanks to you I'll finally be able to start this project. I plan on gutting the engine bay and interior for storage so I don't think weight is going to be an issue. Thank you for the explanation. Just wish i would have seen this sooner.
Nice job Clay. I was thinking of getting a tow bar. Now that I know I can make it work, I will get one. Great explanation about AWD and 4x4 issues on tow dolls. Did not know that. Tow bat is the way to go. Thx. 👍👊
Well thank you R2 D2….. I have been a fan of yours for decades…. Welcome to the channel please inform me when the death star is near completion again thank you very much!!!
@@sharpcarco I routinely check the rear end to see if it was getting hot and it wasn't it wasn't even getting up to regular temperature. The transmission wasn't either
about 10 years ago my VW golf snapped the T belt and cost me 350 to tow it home that pissed me off so i thought i have to build a tow bar , i bought a tow bar like that from harbor freight plus I extended it with square tubing and a flat stock piece welded to extend out at the end to sit above the control arms then bolted steel chain at the end of the square tube , bolted 2 3500 pound straps to each arm i loop the chains around the control arm and hook the straps to the chains , and off I go in 10 minutes, not only have i saved a lot of money since I also made some
I just got a tow bar from vevor and a few things in the instructions worth taking note of are.. --Some vehicles with power steering may “follow” better with the engine idling. --When making turns begin by rolling straight forward, then turn the wheel. --Do not back up with the vehicle in tow.
Very good video, I’m going to go purchase one in a few days. I just had to have my 04 grandmarquis towed 52 miles it was 408$!!! This would have saved a lot of time and money.
That is so freaking awesome dude I’ve never had anybody do that before. Thank you very very much. Welcome to the Channell so extremely happy to have you.
Love your video you are amazing exactly the information I was 👀 for .Buying one for my husband to move a car out of town now I’m confident that it will work awesome!
I really enjoyed your video. I like your sense of humor. You’re a lot like I am. How hard could it really be? Let’s just try it. I’m gonna put one on a jeep grand Cherokee 2004. I have tow lots of wranglers. But never cheap grand Cherokee with a plastic bumper. I’m going to use the multitool to cut out a rectangle through the plastic bumper cover. Thanks for the video.
Your remark about the owner's manual telling us not to drink battery acid as opposed as how to set timing cracked me up and made me sad at the same time. Thanks for the instructional video.
Genuinely laughing out loud I forget about some of the stuff I say in my videos so when people comment on them I’m like what are they talking about? Unfortunately I don’t have the time to go back and watch all of my videos when they say stuff but I specifically remember saying that because it’s true. You are definitely not the only one that gets sad about that. It’s actually very sad to say. …. Welcome to the channel Jesse very happy to have you not all of them are as good as this one but I keep trying….
Well, you will definitely find the hidden agenda behind my videos… either useful or a reminder of what we should all pass along to the rest of humanity.. it’s hard to put morals and values into a video when the subject matter is not about that but that’s really the reason that I make videos You’ll find phrases like “don’t be the next, then be the first of you “ “Life is not about the legacy we live. It’s the one we lead others to follow. “ things like that I always have hidden meanings in my videos, even if somebody doesn’t actually get them.

Ordered a Miller 110 welder($625) and a surge brake actuator($400). Steel estimate @ $400. Going to build my own tow bar! Couldn’t find what I wanted at a price I liked to tow an 8000# motor home. After this trip the tow bar will turn into a trailer to be used behind the motor home. Going to hook the surge brake actuator to the motor home trailer brakes.
@@sharpcarco decided my van would not be able to tow the motor home over the mountains so the project is on hold for a few months. I’ll go back this summer and try again.
Just stumbled across your channel, think like me, do it yourself. One thing, for the safety of everyone else on the road, a safety chain from the jeep to the tow vehicle is mandatory. Your loose bolts proved it. And tape the hooks on the chain so they can't jump off.
I’ll see if I can do it 😫 I have a o1 mustang im going to tow from California to Florida. Using a Mazda 5 to pull. I’m worried because I have 0 mechanical skills, so I’m using your video to a t. I have a week to figure everything out. Thanks for the video
The reason it follows is because of the suspension geometry and something called "Castor" angle, like a shopping trolley the wheels always trail because of the castor angle.
I sure hope my 2000 4x4 s10 blazer will handle pulling a 1987 s10 4x4. Just bought an old blue ox tow bar set up. Planning to mount it to the front of the frame where the tow hooks mounth.
@@sharpcarco life happened and I didn't get the 1987 s10. I did manage to find a cheap tow bar set up . $10 . Couldnt beat it. I also found a Uhaul hitch in the Upull. Paid $40 for it. I did pick up a project car hauler trailer, not sure if I'll keep it . Either way whenever I run across something else , ill have the stuff to haul it.or tow it.
About 20 years ago i towed a 1970 VW bus using a tow bar, with a 1971 VW bus. Worked like a charm, i would like to apologize to the woman whose front yard i had to use to get on the turnpike after missing the entrance. You can't make as tight a turn as you would without being connected via towbar.
You could have gotten a different hitch that was level pretty cheap from harbor freight. Also not near as concerned about pulling something as I am stopping it. Back roads and slow speeds may get it, but no place to be on the highway, especially in traffic when you have to make a hard unexpected stop to avoid rear ending someone. Have you checked to see if this is covered by your insurance?
I recon to use a lower gear when ur towing bigger vehicles, any inclines. Have ur engine rev higher, to work the cooling fan a bit faster,as there will be more cooling required, especially if u have an auto tranz.. Need to point out that the towed vehicle doesn’t have brakes that can be used by the driver of towing vehicle.. You need to anticipate the need to stop long before usual.. Algud..
Well, as long as the very short distance, and all four wheels are on the ground like in my situation, everything should be a neutral. The only problem is that the transmission pump does not pump unless the engine is not running so whenever possible it’s always best to remove the driveshaft if possible.. and especially if you’re going to great distance, I would say if you’re going any further than 20 or 30 miles it’s better to flatbed it or use a wheel dolly with wheel dollies on the back
Thanks for making this video. I probably would have drilled right through the plastic to mount the tow bar. But taking off the cover makes good sense so you can see the best place to mount the bar.
That is the most ridiculous comment I saw all day. The plastic cover most definitely will not hold up to the stress of pulling the car by it, you almost certainly won't be able to get the nut on the back of the metal bar with the cover on, you could easily damage things behind the cover by blindly drilling into it, and having plastic and likely foam between the tow bar's brackets and the metal bar would be extremely dangerous since it's so soft. If it squishes down as you drive, the nuts will come loose. Towing is not the place to be lazy or shortcut things to your convenience.
Well thank you very very much I greatly appreciate it when folks take the time to tell me things like that. I definitely try to make my videos better and better as I go further and further Welcome to the channel we’re very happy to have folks like you here
Before anything, I would like to say thanks for the video, I got a little issue, I need to pull up my car about 14or16 normal drive,so I consider that most be going to take me more hours than that, my car is a old 78 ford thunderbird that’s heavy, my plans are to pull up with a 1500 dodge ram, I feel a little bit scared, I never did this before, I will going to need good wishes, I have been pulling trailers in the USA but never cars with tow bars, thanks for the video.
I recommend removing the driveshaft before you do it, but pay close attention to the part of this video where I show you why pulling something with a tow dolly is not really a problem… there are particular procedures though for a rear wheel drive vehicles I think you need to hold the steering wheel with the safety belt but it’s been so long since I towed a rear wheel drive vehicle with a tow bar I don’t know that I ever did it before. So just a smidge more of research will make you feel more confident I’m certain you can do it. I don’t think there’s gonna be any problem, but less be a little bit more cautious, and will be assured success.
@@sharpcarco I really appreciate your advice, I’m still working on , the companies over charge to howls, with that money I can make the trip and I still save money. Thanks again and happy 4 of July.
I want to tow a front wheel drive vehicle (Honda Odyssey) a long distance-1000 miles. I had heard you aren’t supposed to use a tow bar but rather a tow dolly to keep the front wheels from constantly spinning which will destroy the transmission. You addressed the issue of AWD and RWD about disconnecting the driveshaft. I’m assuming from your video that it’s OK to tow a FWD vehicle without doing anything other than putting the car in neutral and leaving the key in the ON position-correct?
You definitely have to use a tow dolly for that. And yes I talk about that in the video . Sorry I did not address the front wheel drive version. Even though I believe you could probably tow that thing like 20 to 30 miles and it would probably be OK depending on the speeds that you were going without a tow dolly but in your situation you definitely don’t want to do that with that vehicle really sucks I wish they had a way that you could disconnect the front driveshaft and tow it without it being a lot of work. Obviously if Took the front driveshaft it would be NO problem whatsoever and you could use a tow dolly and it would work really really well. But I don’t know your level of mechanical experience so if that’s not something that you’re familiar with you may find it to be somewhat of a challenge but then again I’m sure there’s plenty of videos to show you how to remove the drive shafts then you would just take them out and leave them out but I don’t know if it would be worth the expense that it would cost you to rent a tow dolly. I would say if I told Allie was gonna cost me $400 to rent I would probably consider doing it
@@sharpcarco Thank you for your quick reply. I’m skilled at removing the CV drive axles but didn’t want to do that if it wasn’t necessary. I see a lot of cars being towed behind motor homes or RVs using a tow bar. I’m fairly certain that many of them are FWD. But I can’t believe that the cv axles have been removed.
That’s a very valid point I can’t imagine that all of them people do that either. It might be possible that I don’t understand the front wheel drive transmission the same way as the rear wheel drive transmission because of how the axles actually go in on the same side so it is possible that with the vehicle in neutral does not spin the gear the same way unlike a rear wheel drive engine that Hass to transfer energy completely through the transmission a front wheel drive transmission may not work the same way. I’m not a transmission expert for sure hell I’m not an expert at anything 🤔😂 i’m just an OK editor….. Anyways I appreciate the kind words and welcome to the channel we’re very happy to have you let me know what you find out with that situation…. I’ll do some of my limited investigation as well…
Remove the rear driveshaft and the front driveshaft And if you want some Economy in your tow rig Buy a hydrogen generator hook it up and fill it for You Tube
Yes the chains are supposed to go to to the sides with U-bolts on that bar. They're also supposed to be underneath to catch the towbar and keep it from digging into the ground if it separates.
So as long as a 4x4 transfer case is in neutral, and an AWD vehicle has all 4 wheels on the ground it’s all good too tow? This has opened up a whole new ballgame to me!
No, that's not the case at all. But when you have a vehicle you don't care about, don't mind bending the bumper, and drilling holes into the frame, it's totally worth it,.
Hey that was a great video thank you. Do the tires and wheels turn the correct way when you're backing it up or is it possible. Is this possible with 2 tractor trucks.
In the south, I see people do it all the time it is the craziest thing I’ve ever seen somebody pulling two vehicles with one seems pretty dangerous to me, but they do it. As far as backing up goes, I don’t recommend that because when you hook it to the bumper like I did, it will bend it .
I need to tow a 2011 equinox from Michigan to Mexico. But I don't know what drive shaft to remove so the transmission or parts don't burn or mess up. It's all wheel drive
You can't flat tow any automatic unless you remove the drive shafts and good luck doing that on the side of the road. It's much easier and safer to pick the car up on a trailer with proper brakes and lights. I have been driving for 50 years and only had to pick a car up once, so why bother? It cost me $100. in trailer hire.
you showed a lot of modern cars. What about something form the 50s and 60's I understand it would likely be easier with the bumper removed, but will the hardware line up? They often don't have a lot of area to drill on some of the older cars. do you have an example of that?
I didn’t get the part about the transmission being lubricated when the engine is not running I thought you had to be a battery operated transmission pump or certain vehicles had special electronic apps to circumvent that?
When the engine runs the transmission pump runs pumping fluid to the critical parts of the transmission When you’re towing a vehicle, even when the vehicles in neutral parts of the transmission are still spinning on the inside But they’re not getting lubricated properly That’s why it’s best to remove the driveshafts, so the transmission internals are not spinning . In this video, I did not do any of that. I pulled it with everything spinning on the insides of the transmission which are not good for transmission. However, I did put it in neutral, and it didn’t seem to have an effect, but I can’t guarantee that it won’t in your situation Point of the video is that you can cost-effectively tow a vehicle anywhere without a tow truck and the other point of the video is to show you how the vehicle turns when you’re using a tow bar
nice explainations I have a 8200LB chevy 3500 RV van probaley heavier than the sprinter you mentioned. would my van require actuel base plates that bolt to the frame. or could the stuff you bolted to the jeep work?
@@sharpcarco Is that sufficient? Do I need to engage the four-wheel-down towing feature? or it is automatically engaged in AWD? Thanks for your super fast reply!
Did you pull the driveshaft and any half-shafts? If not, you likely toasted your automatic transmission. There is no engine turning the pump which to lubricate moving parts. Also, the key may be left in the OFF/NOT locked so as not to kill the battery and heating up the electrical system. Finally, it is not 1980 anymore. Tow bars are pretty much limited to SUVs, full-size vans, and pickup trucks.
I was looking for a way to haul my mini truck to the camp and back once a year and didn't want to buy an expensive trailer. I will see what I have to do to find a way to attach it to the front bumper. Thanks for the video and reply!@@sharpcarco
I just watched a video of someone removing a bumper on the model of my car-1999 Lexus RX 300. I was looking for a place to install the two small tow bars, but there's a big white plastic shock absorber I'm guessing, under the faux bumper he took off. Where would you put those bars? Underneath the plastic on the frame? Or, cut two spaces out of the plastic? If I put them under all that on the frame, I'm not sure I'd even need to finish taking my bumper off. I'm down to one screw, then it's off. LOL
Well, you can message me on Clays AC and Auto Repair. Over Facebook it’s free and I don’t collect information. I’ll certainly try to help you out. I’m sure the two of us can figure something out.
So questions: if I have an offload bumper with clevis mounts for d rings, why couldn't I just use those to hook up? Would I really still have to drill and mount the brackets from a kit? Also, can I safely flat tow a 4x4 Jeep Xj with a 5 speed manual?
Great video. Very informative but I must ask… I’m about to tow a 3/4 ton G20 van from Mississippi to Arizona on a 5,000 lb tow bar from harbor freight. Do I need to drop the driveshaft or do I just put it in neutral? Also, I lost the key to the van and had to break the steering lock. Will this be a major issue for me while towing? These sound like dumb questions when read aloud but your input would be appreciated nonetheless. Btw, I liked, subscribed, and watched the video a few times. Interesting strategy to boost the funding. 😂
Thanks Dayton, sorry but Drive shafts have to go . I don’t know too much about the steering wheel being locked. Have you ever noticed how when a tow company told your vehicle they put the safety belt around the steering wheel? I’m sure there’s a reason for that and I’m assuming it’s so if the steering accidentally came unlocked so I would recommend doing something to rectify that problem before you go I would probably consider replacing the steering column personally. Technically it’s not supposed to go kitty Wompus on you but there’s a lot of mountains through there and I wouldn’t risk it. You can’t tell with the driveshafts because transmission fluid would be pumping through the transmission. Be careful safe travels welcome to the channel. And we appreciate having you here sorry I couldn’t be more definitive.
I'm not going to lie here I feel a little nervous towing a chevy suburban here from the Texas panhandle back to Dallas it's about a six and half hour drive back home here I'm using a 2002 chevy silverado to tow a 2003 chevy suburban here will it work out here .
Good video I had that question if I should buy the mounting bracket but this way is a lot cheaper, there is one concern I have. The car to be towed pulls slightly to the left will there be any problems driving like that?
If you’re going to be towing the car more than twice I highly recommend buying the bracket this is just one of them situations where if there’s no value and it’s not going to be a commonly towed vehicle it’s a lot more practical to buy the brackets Thanks for the kind words and welcome to Channell we’re very happy to help you
Well I finally just put that jeep back together and I don’t have any transmission or brake problems but you could be correct it would be possible I guess… ruclips.net/video/5lm1ma4EuTk/видео.html

Driving 6 hours to Mexico for the holidays , I always see a lot of cars in-tow and impressed that they have 2-3 cars all hooked to each other. I am interested in just towing 1 to take over to Mexico, about 365 miles. This video is super helpful!
Glad to hear you enjoyed it!
Takes too long. No thx. Ain't nobody removing covers.. thx tho.
@@sharpcarcoPerfect, sounds like the exact video I need. I’ll take a look for it.
@sharpcarco real quick, where do I find brackets like these? 5:10
@drwbkr1 they should be included
@drwbkr1 they should be included with your towbar
I found this video really helpful. I have to pull my toyota camry from California to Kentucky, and I've seen people pulling cars, but I had no idea how to install it. Thank you so much for the really detailed explanation amigo.
You’re welcome my friend thank you for the kind words and welcome to the channel we’re very happy to have folks like you here
Im glad I found your video, I need to take my truck to the dealership for some maintenance that will take a couple days and I dont want to pay twice for a tow truck, I could use this to pull my van behind my truck to the dealer, then come back for it later, just throw it in the back once im done with it. Alot cheaper than a tow dolly.
Just be careful, if your vehicle is not designed to be pulled with all wheel wheels on the ground make sure you remove the driveshaft or if the vehicle runs you can start it up and put it in neutral
When I did mine, I was not going that far. If I would’ve went much further, I’m certain it would’ve damaged the transmission.
@@sharpcarco Yes its front wheel drive, i plan on running the engine in neutral.
Thank you very much for the kind words Avery welcome to the channel. Happy to have you.
I used a fence post with a 2" trailer hitch from harbor freight and towed my 89 honda accord 2,300 acrost the US with my VW golf VR6 .It worked perfectly. key in and battery disconnect
I would like to see that ! Was it a steel or wood fence post ? How did you attach it to the car chains and turn buckle ?
I have a 96 accord and they don't come with a metal bumper
That's pretty much exactly what I'm working with: a VR Jetta and a '91 Accord. Good know, thanks for the details.
@@YerBrwnDogAteMyRabit not this car, my Charger has what you're describing, but the accord is a composite bumper. I drilled through it.

Hey just wanted to thank you. 20 years mechanic work, also buying selling trading cars. Constantly towing them all sorts of crazy ways

Thank you Clay, you seem to be the only one explaining how this will work
I hope you have saved me a lot of stress :~)
Thx. 👍👊

Great information. I liked your comments on common sense, 😏.
Any updates on your custom tow bar? Sounds pretty sweet!
In that situation you have to remove the rear driveshaft
@@sharpcarco why does he need to remove the driveshaft? i thought if all 4 are on the ground the transmission is safe?
For a truck with a thin chromed bumper, would you suggest removing the bumper and trying to just use the supports or something else??
Yes, absolutely
The reason it follows is because of the suspension geometry and something called "Castor" angle, like a shopping trolley the wheels always trail because of the castor angle.
This is why I like Subaru, they bring a thick tow eyelet from factory. Is it possible to tow with a single tow bar like they do with military humbies?
Love your sense of Humor

I sure hope my 2000 4x4 s10 blazer will handle pulling a 1987 s10 4x4. Just bought an old blue ox tow bar set up. Planning to mount it to the front of the frame where the tow hooks mounth.
How did it turn out?
@@sharpcarco life happened and I didn't get the 1987 s10. I did manage to find a cheap tow bar set up . $10 . Couldnt beat it. I also found a Uhaul hitch in the Upull. Paid $40 for it.
Started seeing these on the interstate it was crazy to me lol that I was by the port of entry in New Mexico lol
Algud..
I love towing! Miss it badly.
I was a little confused on the all wheel drive part . So what your saying is that it’s safe to use the tow bar on it as long as it’s on neutral
Well thanks Michael for taking the time to write that message I’m glad it helped you welcome to the channel and we’re very happy to have you.

Welcome to the channel we’re very happy to have folks like you here
Before anything, I would like to say thanks for the video, I got a little issue, I need to pull up my car about 14or16 normal drive,so I consider that most be going to take me more hours than that, my car is a old 78 ford thunderbird that’s heavy, my plans are to pull up with a 1500 dodge ram, I feel a little bit scared, I never did this before, I will going to need good wishes, I have been pulling trailers in the USA but never cars with tow bars, thanks for the video.
Even though I believe you could probably tow that thing like 20 to 30 miles and it would probably be OK depending on the speeds that you were going without a tow dolly but in your situation you definitely don’t want to do that with that vehicle really sucks
I wish they had a way that you could disconnect the front driveshaft and tow it without it being a lot of work.
I’ll do some of my limited investigation as well…
Maybe these cars are FWD BUT with a manual transmission?
Absolutely valid point more than likely you are correct
Good video, I'm towing a 98 gmc with a 2006 chevy silverado both are 4x4 to Kentucky from Arkansas in about 2 weeks what advice could you give me
Remove the rear driveshaft and the front driveshaft
And if you want some Economy in your tow rig
Buy a hydrogen generator hook it up and fill it for You Tube
Yes the chains are supposed to go to to the sides with U-bolts on that bar. They're also supposed to be underneath to catch the towbar and keep it from digging into the ground if it separates.
Good on newer vehicles, but can I bolt the brackets to the bumper on my 1966 ford Ranchero?
Well, that’s where you gotta use your head a little bit and figure out if it’s strong enough
Can you use this on the interstate?
Have a 92 Chevy G20 van. I need to tow from Georgia to Texas...
Of course, just in that situation make sure you remove the rear driveshaft
thanks Clay
I need to tow a 2011 equinox from Michigan to Mexico. But I don't know what drive shaft to remove so the transmission or parts don't burn or mess up. It's all wheel drive

I always thought that you couldn’t flat tow an automatic rear wheel drive car, even in neutral?
You can't flat tow any automatic unless you remove the drive shafts and good luck doing that on the side of the road.
It's much easier and safer to pick the car up on a trailer with proper brakes and lights.
I have been driving for 50 years and only had to pick a car up once, so why bother? It cost me $100. in trailer hire.
@@Johnsmith-zi9pu you can if all 4 tires are on the ground. tow dollies are the issue for transmissions
you showed a lot of modern cars.
When the engine runs the transmission pump runs pumping fluid to the critical parts of the transmission
When you’re towing a vehicle, even when the vehicles in neutral parts of the transmission are still spinning on the inside
But they’re not getting lubricated properly
That’s why it’s best to remove the driveshafts, so the transmission internals are not spinning .
My 1958 Volvo has very thin front bumper, unlike modern cars/trucks which has thick 5 mph bumpers! Please advise.
straigth to the point....excelent vijeo boss

nice explainations I have a 8200LB chevy 3500 RV van probaley heavier than the sprinter you mentioned. would my van require actuel base plates that bolt to the frame. or could the stuff you bolted to the jeep work?
I didn't completely get how to tow AWD vehicles. Could you explained a little bit details? Thank you so much!
Put the transfer case in neutral
Love the video, Very Helpful. Thank you
Is it okay to tow a 4x4 vehicle with a manual transmission on either a car dolly or a tow bar without having to take out the driveshaft?
I would have to think so since you can put the transfer case in neutral. I don’t think that’s gonna be a problem

is the better video i saw this day
I just watched a video of someone removing a bumper on the model of my car-1999 Lexus RX 300. LOL
I have a pic of the car without the plastic bumper cover on it.

Always have the vehicle being towed running. As long as the trans pump is flowing you can tow anything
And we appreciate having you here sorry I couldn’t be more definitive.
thanks for showing us why not to use a tow dolly
Yeah, dude this is the most ghetto setup. Literally a why NOT to use a tow bar.
❤THANK YOU FOR YOUR VIDEO. OPEN MY MIND A LITTLE BIT MORE🇺🇸
The holes at the bottom i wonder if you could have just mounted the mounts there instead of extra holes
If I could’ve, I would’ve
Aren't the safety chains supposed to be crossed over under the hitch?
Good stuff guy appreciate the video
I'm not going to lie here I feel a little nervous towing a chevy suburban here from the Texas panhandle back to Dallas it's about a six and half hour drive back home here I'm using a 2002 chevy silverado to tow a 2003 chevy suburban here will it work out here .
Thanks for sharing your knowledge
Well thank you for the kind words and welcome to the channel
Good video I had that question if I should buy the mounting bracket but this way is a lot cheaper, there is one concern I have. The car to be towed pulls slightly to the left will there be any problems driving like that?
If you’re going to be towing the car more than twice I highly recommend buying the bracket this is just one of them situations where if there’s no value and it’s not going to be a commonly towed vehicle it’s a lot more practical to buy the brackets
Thanks for the kind words and welcome to Channell we’re very happy to help you
I might be wrong, but I think your instrument cluster said your parking brake was on the entire time?
Well I finally just put that jeep back together and I don’t have any transmission or brake problems but you could be correct it would be possible I guess…
