I wanted you to know that your videos are being regularly forwarded to my daughter (will start FYE this fall) and watched. I would never have thought Excel would be stressed so much, but it makes sense as I use it for everything in my IT world. Really appreciate you making these videos, I think my daughter will be better prepared because of them. We have told her many times, "this is going to be a barn burner". :)
Oh wow!!!! That’s awesome!!!! Thanks for your feedback and yes excel was hammered on us a lot during my first semester so it really has a mental image in my head.
@@joebuzz6430 No I’m not, but as far as HC goes, it depends. I personally didn’t want to do it because it would be an additional workload along with my ECE courses, but that may be different for you.
@@simplyNimal Ok, I was just curious because I felt kinda pressured to join, but I probably won't. I have no clue what kind of enginnering I want to pursue, so that's probably where I should put my time and energy!
Thank you! My son is headed into FYE - Computer Engineering Intended major. Glad I fell on your video and got to hear your personal experience. Thanks again. Best of luck this upcoming year.
Your videos actually give me some help in term of researching schools. Could help mefigure out what the differences and common points among Computer Engineering, Electronic Engineering, and Computer science? In fact, just from the name, I cannot find some distinct diferences between them but the diferences may be important for me during application. Maybe you can do a new video for this question, or just reply me. Thanks!!!!! By the way, your reflection is excellent!
@@simplyNimal BTW could you simply talk about the possibility that student majoring in math can transfer to ECE department? I mean, if people who reach the prerequisite about GPA and some courses can successfully transfer? I appreciate it!!
Why am I as an FYE dropout watching this? Also I had the complete opposite with SCLA 101, crazy to see how different professors can completely make or break a course
It seems like you already knew which major you were going to select, but how well do you think the FYE program helps students select which major is right for them?
During the first semester of FYE, the ENGR 131 classes actually make students sign up for engineering info sessions from the different schools. We were supposed to attend those and sort of note the different disciplines in the College of Engineering. There was also a required number of events that we had to attend along with seeing a discipline from a different subgroup (like ece, me, and aae would be in a subgroup and biomed, chem, and agro would be in another subgroup).
So in terms of the FYE program helping students, I’d say it did a great job for the students who were undecided and also solidified those who already knew which major they were going to pursue.
I got into purdue applied math honors. Im from india and i havent heard good things about purdue math. Do you think going to purdue will be a good choice? Im not afraid of the rigorous curriculum tho. But i just dont wanna have a bad experience with profs and classes, given the money ill have to pay for an education at purdue.
Lmao we had pretty different FYE experiences. I knew I wanted to go into ME since 8th grade, and I am not actually looking to work for an engineering firm, so FYE seemed like such a large waste of time for me. I'm glad I'm finally in my major though, I'm so excited to be taking strictly ME specific courses.
To complete the FYE program, you need a 2.0. However, some programs are competitive like AAE and require a much higher gpa to transition into those majors. In that case, aim for at least a 3.5.
@@amranh6471 Most engineering colleges have a "guarantee" when you apply during the Spring with a 3.2 GPA, but like Nimal said when it comes to more competitive majors like AAE or BME you would want a higher GPA
Yes, all engineering majors have to take a chem course for a semester, but depending on your major, that may be the last time you take one (Especially if you’re ece, aae, ie, me). If you have credit for chem through ap/ib, then you don’t need to take a chem course.
DEFINITELY take your chem credit if you feel like you know the material well enough. Otherwise, take the class for a GPA boost, I never studied for chem 115 and nearly failed the final and got an A in that class
Hi even I’m interested to go and study computer engineering in Purdue so can u plz tell me ur gpa and sat score along with ur extracurriculars I’m extremely curious to know haha
Will be making a video on that in the future, but make sure to have a machine that can handle many things at once in addition to intensive stuff like matlab, cad modeling software (if your major requires such), and other things
I have a microsoft surface pro, which works fine so far with coding, but definitely slows down and graphics get pixelated when it comes to CAD or Fusion 360
@@leticiacervantes8855 Idk about Aspen but at my freshman year at Purdue I used my old laptop till Thanksgiving and got a new one for considerably cheaper. I saved up for it by working part time.

If ece is so intense, why is there so little competition to get into the major?? This is smth I been wondering for a while

Honestly, my SCLA prof did make the course really engaging and I really got lucky to be in that section (easy A too).

Wait does purdue have a Computer information systems program and if so, what school would it be? Thanks
I believe it’s in the Polytechnic Institute, and I think it’s called Computer and Information Technology.
Is Cybersecurity Data Sciences or Computer and Information Technology a better program at Perdue ?
Good stuff 👍

Could you make a what's in my backpack video in the future? Also, did you have to use a clicker during FYE lectures?
I did have to use an iClicker for my lectures and it seems like all of the science courses require one (chem, physics, and cs).
Will consider the idea for a future vid. Thanks for your input!!!!

What C compiler did you use for CS159? CLang? MSVC? Or does it not matter?
The course makes you use gcc, if I remember correctly.
