    Hey guys,
    Welcome to another video. In this one, I'll be explaining about Purdue First year Engineering programs and my personal experience being in it.
    I recently talked to some professors at Purdue and they mentioned that many Purdue engineering students didn't know that they were in FYE until they had to schedule courses, which reminded me that I didn't know about it til April 2020, senior year of high school, when I had to start making college decision.
    Hopefully this video helps out
    AS ALWAYS, if you enjoy the video then don't forget to SUBSCRIBE, LIKE and SHARE.

    Hi Harry! I was accepted into Purdue for FYE and I found this video helpful in my decision so thank you! I was wondering what the work/life balance is like for you at the school? As a FYE student did you find yourself always doing academics? What’s the rigor of FYE like?
    And an unrelated question: the gym facilities seem great when I visited campus but are they ever available considering how many students there are?

    • @jennabrual3256
      @jennabrual3256 2 года назад

      Also, I heard you’re not an engineering major anymore but I’d still love to hear your opinions from your own and of friends’ experiences! Thank you :)

    • @HarryHTF
      @HarryHTF  2 года назад +3

      Hi Jenna, when I was in FYE, balance was definitely not a problem if you organize your work so dont worry about it. FYE classes are for the most part introductory so you will have time to adjust. Not to say that they wont be hard but I believe you will handle them just fine :). There will be time for other activites too. As for the gym. Its usually more crowded at night and especially at the beginning of each semester but it will ease down. Sometimes it can be hard finding machines that are open but 95% of the time it wont be a problem. Good luck
      Ps: im still in engineering. Long story which I will explain in a future video

    My daughter has been accepted to fye - she is looking at multi disciplinary too - however as her parent I am concerned about how marketable that is. We are from Pittsburgh pa! We visited a couple weeks ago and really liked the campus - everyone was sooo nice! Thanks for this video!

    • @HarryHTF
      @HarryHTF  3 месяца назад

      Hi! It is totally understandable to have that concern, especially since Multidisciplinary Engineering (MDE) is not as mainstream as, for example, mechanical engineering. Fundamentally, MDE is the same as any any other engineering, since the core engineering classes are still the same, the difference is the flexibility to choose your electives within your concentration. As the MDE department puts it, these electives that you choose in your concentration are what set you apart from other engineers because not only do you have the engineering knowledge but also the supplementary aspects as well. For example, Visual design engineering is a popular concentration in MDE, and students in this discipline can "market" their additional skills in design, art, or CAD which can be valuable for many companies. Also, to get technical, All engineering majors in the school of Engineering at Purdue are ABET accredited. ABET accreditation is only recognized in certain engineering programs and schools, which basically says that the engineering discipline is on par with the professional engineering standard and students in these programs are qualified as engineers. I hope that helps, and congrats to your daughter!

    Honestly, I didn't find ENGR131 or 132 really helpful, especially when your teammates don't really contribute...but as you pass FYE, courses are making more sense and easier to learn and apply.

    Can you comment on how much scholarship money does purdue usually give? Is this amount renewed each year? Basically want to get an idea or yearly costs with scholarships at purdue

    • @tamarahouran9152
      @tamarahouran9152 5 месяцев назад

      I may be a little late but the tuition is around 10k (a year) for Indiana residents and 29k (a year) for non-residents, they give out scholarships that can usually be renewed annually and they range from $500 to full-tuition (though the lily scholarship, which is the full-tuition scholarship is EXTREMELYYYY selective and requires the applicant to be a first generation student). If you have a 4.0 and an SAT score of over 1300, it is highly likely you'll be awarded a scholarship of 5k-10k!

      @homiestik Well, first and foremost should be grades, and then beyond that, extracurriculars. I also showed a lot about my interest in Engineering and aviation. I run a space-themed Instagram account and have done a lot of projects utilizing arduino microcontrollers and electronics. So, I tried to show my interest by talking a bit about my projects. Once you have your grades and standardized tests at a good spot, maintain them and try to work on what will make you unique. Hone in on your passions. Good luck! Hope it works out for you!

      @HarryHTF Hello from Palo Alto! My son just got accepted to engineering yesterday! He’s interested in Environmental Engineering but his acceptance letter didn’t say he was accepted to his first choice. He called the AO and seems to have interpreted their response as “applications to Engineering majors that get accepted, get into Engineering, but not a particular major. Students essentially declare their choice later and most of them get into their major, but some (about 5%) don’t. Is this correct ? My sons first choice was environmental engineering on his application. Is it going to be an issue declaring this or different major, say, Electrical or Computer engineering after FYE?
