    I've had the pleasure of meeting Pete, Roger, and John multiple times throughout the years. But one of the biggest regrets in my life is that I never got to see Keith Moon live. Keith lived his life at a million miles an hour and he was taken away too soon.

    That's surprisingly sweet. He may not have been a particularly good singer, but he knew how to put a song across.

      You would still be surprised as when singing for the who he made it to comical so they couldn't sing the lines. When with the who he couldn't do it without everyone laughing as things he said no wonder it cost alot to make he has to sing small parts at a time to remove laughing in song

I never knew you and you were long gone by the time I was born but for some reason it feels like you're some kind of an old friend. Sometimes I forget that you're not around anymore and haven't been for a long time and I don't know why but it makes me sad. Thank you for leaving us these beautiful covers and of course your amazing songs with the Who. Rest well Keith, I hope you enjoy your birthday from wherever you are. I love you a lot 💖

    • @bluesfan582
      @bluesfan582 7 лет назад +24

      He actually had a better voice than this song and this album would lead you to believe. The basic problem I think was that he was insecure about what people thought of him and he feared rejection and ridicule, so he would act out a role or play the fool instead of playing it straight and taking the risk. I knew him for about 3 months in 1973 and we sang a few songs together one evening. I found him warm, funny, alert, intelligent, and very quick on the uptake, capable of (or maybe needing to be) multi-tasking, but I had the impression that he was terrified of letting anyone see a sensitive and vulnerable inner self he constantly protected from the outside world.

    • @Cissy2cute
      @Cissy2cute 7 лет назад +10

      Blues fan
      Some very astute observations, Blues fan. His problems sound quite similar to those that plagued Brian Jones. The difference was that Brian could not hide his sensitivity and lack of self-confidence, kept it all inside which, as we know, destroys a person from within.
      Have a question: where do you think Keith fell within the group dynamics and how much influence do you think he had with the others? Do you feel he might have sometimes clashed with them? As with most bands, a hierarchy develops. I'm interested because to me Keith represented(s) one of the best of the theatrical type of drummer and his drumming continues to fascinate me to this day.

    • @bluesfan582
      @bluesfan582 7 лет назад +9

      Cissy2cute Hi again. He never said much about the others, except to mention them in passing, and always in praising terms. That's why I have been irked to see Pete Townshend in several interviews saying that he didn't think Keith was a good drummer, that he couldn't see how Keith deserved his reputation, that he was overrated and so on. He really would have preferred a drummer like Kenney Jones all along, but once Keith died and Kenney took over, the Who did not thrive. I believe Pete Townshend has more recently stated how valuable he now thinks Keith was to the group, but while Keith was still alive, I believe he was always made to feel as if he was there under suffrance and the Pete would have preferred someone else. You will appreciate this is more an impression I picked up rather than something firmly stated, so it should be viewed accordingly in case I have misread the situation.
      You are of course already aware of how I feel about Brian Jones from other exchanges we have had in the past, and I think you have hit the nail precisely on the head in your comments. I still have a copy of "Go Now" for you, incidentally, if you still want it.

    • @Cissy2cute
      @Cissy2cute 7 лет назад

      So sorry I took this long to reply. Can't wait until the holidays are over. Too exhausting for me.
      Very interesting information you have there! For anyone, let alone Pete T., to say that Keith wasn't a good drummer needs to clean the wax out of their ears. Then years after Keith has passed, suddenly Pete appreciates his work? Ha, same with Mick and Keith re: Brian. Mick has stated that they "should have done more for him" re: his drug problems (and it wasn't just drugs; he was self-medicating due to severe depression). And Keith expressing sympathy for him (finally)--doesn't do much good now, does it? At least Charlie said he was against booting him out, but he had little to no influence and generally kept his mouth shut.
      Keith Moon and Brian do seem to have shared some characteristics. One thing that to me shows how non-aggressive Brian was is how easily he relinquished the Rolling Stones band name. I did read somewhere that he never did have decent legal council, but it appears he didn't even express his displeasure over this. But there is probably more to that story than I know. All the legal BS.
      I once bid on a pair of Keith's drumsticks (pretty cracked) on eBay. Had this whole display in my mind with a nice poster of him and a display case underneath with the drumsticks. But given my limited funds I did not think I would win. And indeed, when it went above $500 that counted me out. They eventually sold for $1000. Oh well, it was a good idea anyway.
      Would love "Go Now" but I live in the US. Don't think I ever got where you are located. Very interested, let me know please!
      P.S. Hope you got a chance to see my two vids on Brian. Too much audio problems with the second one but uploaded it anyway. Working on more bands but very slow going right now. If I don't get another chance to say it, Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, whatever (it's so confusing now) to you and all you hold dear.

    I goes to show, if you put a giant group of singers behind someone, and good musicians, too, they can make, danmed near any mediore singer sound good. This is mainly like an audio photograph of a beloved person. It's charming in its simplicity and basic nature. It's a connection with a missed person. Therein lies its value. If this were someone, unknown, singing this way, they'd be dismissed by the public, largely. Celebrity, and the image of personality, give people a feeling of knowing someone. That's a big part of what is at play, here. This is like a charming, simple, slightly out of focus, black and white snapshot, of a beloved person, framed in a gold frame, with a art light over the top of it, presenting a dramatic image of a, very much, missed person. It's kind of an audio simple photograph. We love our old images of the beloved.

Overall, wonderfully crafted upbeat retelling of various events and times in life of Keith Moon. I’ve seen The Who several times in concert but never had the pleasure of the original experience of the founding members- Keith was missing. As he is still remembered and honored today by this video is a testament to him as a person’s soul.

Maybe a couple of weeks isolated on a remote Scottish island, anywhere but the drug-crazed hellholes he used to frequent, might have turned his life around. Writers: Lennon, McCartney; double-tracked
    Lead vocal: Keith Moon
    There are places I'll remember,
    All my life
    Though some have changed.
    Some forever not for better,
    Some have gone and some remain.
    All these places have their moments
    With lovers and friends I still can recall.
    Some are dead and some are living,
    In my life I've loved them all.
    But of all these friends and lovers
    There is no one compares with you.
    And these mem'ries lose their meaning
    When I think of love as something new.
    Though I know I'll never lose affection
    For people and things that went before,
    I know I'll often stop and think about them.
    In my life I love you more.

    Unfortunately Keith Moon was mostly drunk when he recorded his only solo-LP. He was not a great singer, but he could have done it better. For example listen to the song "Bucket-T" (The Who). RIP, Keith, childish man, and one of the greatest, wildest Drummer ever.
