This will always be Keith's song in my opinion. His farewell. This was The Who at their absolute zenith and that's a bold statement considering their gargantuan legacy
His farewell was also the farewell of The Who at their incomparable best. Aside from the odd song like Eminence Front, they never wowed me; although saying that, Zac Starkey is the best substitute for ol' Moonie. 1970-74 they were fucking unreal on stage
Love this behind the scenes showing how they approached their craft and how much fun they had doing it. And they seem to genuinely like each other. At least while the camera is on.
Keith taping his phones to his head is classic!! This brings me back to when the world wasn't nearly as insane. When you didn't wake up in the morning wishing you were the last person on Earth.
How mad have things gotten in the world, where ‘Moon the Loon’ is a benchmark for when things weren’t as insane?! Sad how much things have spiralled downwards since then.
I love Zeppelin, The Stones...., but these guys, note for note, lyric for lyric, song for song, album for album....Never heard a better band. And every member is genius.
@@HankFinkle11 Really I understand disagree with. But far from the best. So you tell us, who's the best rock drummer? I'd like to hear who you say. He was an incredible drummer.
My favorite band of all time. Growing up in South Africa I used to watch CSI all the time. Vegas, New York and Miami. Once I found out all three themes were by The Who it changed everything. Thank you Jerry Bruckheimer. There is something about the music they made. How it was impacted by their stories and talent. We’ll never get a band as unique as them again. RIP to Moon and Entwistle❤
These guys are so effortlessly cool... Not a pretender amongst their ranks... 4 very different guys coming together to create something more than the sum of the parts...
John Entwistle was misunderstood as being moody, but he wasn't.He was just extremely calm, chilled and mild mannered. 3 of them going mental on stage was enough, there really wasn't enough room for a 4th one doing that.
John Entwhistle was too busy holding the songs together with his wall of sound to be able to showboat, he was, in my opinion, a far greater loss to the group than Keith Moon was, and that says it all.
Wow. Wow... Just wow. So pleased to have found and enjoyed this. A time capsule captured. Thank you for finding and uploading and sharing, Who Ever Who You Are, You Are, You Are, You Are... Who!
Moon having the headphones taped to his head makes me crack up. When you pick one of the greatest guitarists, bassists, drummers, and singers and they create some of the best music ever. Love the Who
From what I’ve seen of other stuff around this time, he had lost it a bit. This particular performance is an exception, as it was probably a bit easier to manage him in a studio setting, but he definitely wasn’t the powerhouse he was in the late 60’s-early 70’s. To me he is the best and most unique drummer ever to pick up sticks, but the drugs and perhaps everyone telling him how great he was had started to diminish him as a player by this point.
I'd not seen this video before. It left me filled with so many emotions, most of which are happiness and sorrow. Happiness to see these blokes doing what they loved and doing it so well, and sorrow, knowing that this is just a historical record of an era gone, never to return. Thanks mates for some of the best music ever.
That says it. It's sad to think that when Rock started in the 50's with Elvis, Chuck,Buddy Holly and so forth the 60's guys Dylan,Stones,Beatles were able to go way beyond them lyrically, and musically, and The Stones hit their pinnacle with Gimme Shelter. there's no way they could top that song like The Who did with Won't Get Fooled Again it's as powerful as it can get, and this equals that, but there is nowhere to go but down. The Stones and Who did a lot of great stuff after those, but the days of topping what came before are long gone.

Keith Moon's facial expressions Absolutely Kill Me!!😂😂 He is So Entertaining to me, that I could watch a whole video of this song just looking at him playing The Drums😂😂 Who Agrees?
I don't know...as far as classic Rock is concerned, Bonham and Jones were at least as good, but totally different style of music and playing. Moon and Entwistle were basically playing solos 90% of the time, whereas Jones and Bonham were much more groove-oriented.
I like 'Soho hole' better. Roger probably said this a few times. I lived the Tubes life for a few days, it is bazaar still. In the language here, I found myself asking if the dead on the underground trains were asking Who they were - silently going to work and drunken revelry hour later. From the US, I certainly wondered looking at them and myself just Who we are.
Debatable…. A good showman that played up to his image…. There is another guy called John Henry Bonham who technically takes the accolade of the greatest ‘rock’ drummer ever…. he is also 6ft under now 🙏

Roger Daltrey - brilliant front man and singer, Pete Townshend - energetic guitarist, John Entwistle - too-cool-for-school bassist who made it look so easy and then there's Keith Moon. Don't need to say anymore, absolute madman and one of the best drummers of all time.
@@alwa6954 No. But they also wouldn't be the band they were/are without Rogers vocals and John and Keith's amazing skills. They were all vital to each other, which is what made them great.
@@tommy2917 Yes, they did a good job. But Townshend's songs have been covered by many many people so I'm guessing that he could have found plenty of other people to perform his songs with him and still been recognizably The Who but without Pete Towshend you don't have The Who anymore. You have 3 talented musicians/performers looking for something to perform.
Almost as if Moonie sensed he was dying, and he reverted to a childlike stat during this recording and filming....he would be gone very shortly after this..

This will always be Keith's song in my opinion. His farewell. This was The Who at their absolute zenith and that's a bold statement considering their gargantuan legacy
That’s a bold statement Cotton!
His farewell was also the farewell of The Who at their incomparable best. Aside from the odd song like Eminence Front, they never wowed me; although saying that, Zac Starkey is the best substitute for ol' Moonie. 1970-74 they were fucking unreal on stage
@capri2673 I don't think Keith was as good at that stage. The abuse he inflicted on himself started to creep up on him by that point in my opinion
Love this behind the scenes showing how they approached their craft and how much fun they had doing it. And they seem to genuinely like each other. At least while the camera is on.
It's also painfully sad to watch as Keith Moon had just four months left on Earth.
Have been a "Who" fan for 55 years now...incredible!!!
At least they are real musicians unlike today
that is almost the timespan of the band itself! lol
Just never get tired of watching these 4 frontmen play incredible music.
Keith taping his phones to his head is classic!! This brings me back to when the world wasn't nearly as insane. When you didn't wake up in the morning wishing you were the last person on Earth.
I would give anything to go back to that time
How mad have things gotten in the world, where ‘Moon the Loon’ is a benchmark for when things weren’t as insane?! Sad how much things have spiralled downwards since then.
Taping headphones to your head is pretty insane, ...jus sayin...
I never got to see any time like that in my life it's been constant chaos beamed directly into my eyes and ears for the past 23 years
Hilarious!! Duct tape all around his hair and forehead...lol....what a nut! He is so awesome....they don't make em' like him anymore.... :-(
I love Zeppelin, The Stones...., but these guys, note for note, lyric for lyric, song for song, album for album....Never heard a better band. And every member is genius.
NO Blues here either
I love CSI
THE WHO ARE THE BEST FROM THE BEST.I LOVE WHO ARE YOU.❤
Spot on!
@@dancingtrout6719 BZZT Wrong Answer. Try again child. When you _learn_ what the blues really is and you grow up a bit, come on back, eh?
The energy and camaraderie of these guys is infectious
I've watch this video over a hundred times and it's still as enjoyable as the first time. Keith Moon was a beast on the drums.
THE BEST.
@@andymatthews7617 far from it.
You’re not alone Jody. Keith’s intensity in this is amazing esp at 3:48 or so. This performance, all of it recharges me. I am freakin 66
@@HankFinkle11 Really I understand disagree with. But far from the best. So you tell us, who's the best rock drummer? I'd like to hear who you say. He was an incredible drummer.
Kim listen to this song. Bed Bath and Beyond fuck them.
Every split second of Kieth Moon footage is precious and priceless,,,,
So priceless you couldn't even spell his name correctly...
He's still the BEST
Ahead of his time. Pulling more faces than an early 90s raver. w00t! \o/
Its written on his T-Shirt man!
@@MA-90s I bought a red KEITH shirt off etsy. Waiting for some diehard fan to comment on it ine of these days. Lol
The eye of the hurricane.
AND YOU KNOW THIS HOW????????????
@@bobcalegari5356 FROM BOOKS I'VE READ ABOUT THEM OVER THE LAST 30 OR SO YEARS!!!!!!......ALRIGHT???????????
I am sure that is absolutely true. A true bass player all respect
John Entwhistle was too busy holding the songs together with his wall of sound to be able to showboat, he was, in my opinion, a far greater loss to the group than Keith Moon was, and that says it all.
Keith getting John to laugh was everything
Yeah, best moment of the clip.
actually they where good companions, John was behind Keith shoulders on most of the wrecked hotel rooms, let's say 'giving the lighter'
and then John got Keith to laugh near the end
Wow.
Wow...
Love the Who
Moon’s drumming on this is unbelievable. People said he’d lost it a bit by then. This proved otherwise.
He was in poor health and drumming, especially the way he drummed was very physical.
Iuv Keith Moon
Unfortunately, Moon died a few weeks after this session.
@@johnsphar4616 September 7, 1978
The Stones and Who did a lot of great stuff after those, but the days of topping what came before are long gone.
well said mate, totally get what you are saying
One of the top three Rock N Roll songs ever made!
love the song, but it's just YOUR top 3
It's so sad to think Keith would be dead 4 months later. He's enjoying himself so much during the taping. Gone too soon.
Overdose on barbiturates.. his doctor gave them to him to help him withdraw from alcohol. They said he had about 28 undesolved capsules in his stomach after he died.
The way he lived his life it's amazing he made it that far!
I’m surprised he lived that long rip❤
That’s probably his last appearance with the who
@@ernestpassaro9663 yup, he died about 4 months after that. After that, THE WHO never seemed to be able to play that song well live. In my opinion, it's because they did not have the energy without Keith. Just my opinion.
If there's a definition for "rock flow" this is it.
My God, Keith Moon was a force of nature.
Yes he was and will always be. As a matter of fact he is more sane, supposedly, than some musicians today.
He used to carry around with him a letter from one of the Syke hospital they sent him to, to prove he was clinically sane, 🤣 he was as mad has a March hair. But boy he could play the drums better than anyone, the only three to come close where BONHAM, GINGER BAKER and CHARLIE, JESUS the four of them are up playing in the GREAT GIG IN THE SKY for the BIG MAN what a show that must be. PEACE BE WITH YOU MY FRIEND'S. ✌️✌️✌️😎😎😎🏴🏴🏴
Keith has such charm and energy in this video. Man, I’ve seen this many times but I never get tired of it. So fun. Such a great band at the pinnacle of their career.
Keith Moon's facial expressions Absolutely Kill Me!!😂😂 He is So Entertaining to me, that I could watch a whole video of this song just looking at him playing The Drums😂😂 Who Agrees?
Moonie and Entwistle were truly the most dynamic and powerful rhythm section around
you are right Mister
MAXIMUM R&B !!!
May they RIP
Watts & Wyman were no slouches either. Except Bill not so much on the “dynamic” part 🤣
I don't know...as far as classic Rock is concerned, Bonham and Jones were at least as good, but totally different style of music and playing. Moon and Entwistle were basically playing solos 90% of the time, whereas Jones and Bonham were much more groove-oriented.
What you just saw was greatness.
4 guys giving 110 percent to something that they loved.
"I woke up in a Soho doorway" gets me hyped every single time. Phenomenal band.
I think I've been to that doorway and rejected
The best
😎😎January 2022 and still the best The Who😊But Led Zeppelin will Always rain pre seem✌

Watching Kieth brought tears to me eyes. Legends, all of you! God bless.
I prefer this version to the album version, very glad that this was posted
Yes, love this version more
The best part about this video is that it's just capturing what happened. Raw and live. The production is entirely the music. The Who.
This captures with perfection the absolute power behind a real band who have something to say.
Keith Moon was, bar NONE, the greatest drummer in the history of Rock music!!!!
Debatable…. A good showman that played up to his image…. There is another guy called John Henry Bonham who technically takes the accolade of the greatest ‘rock’ drummer ever…. he is also 6ft under now 🙏
John Bonham was brilliant! There’s no denying that. I’ve just always been more partial to Moon and his zany antics!
There is on more to contemplate, Ginger Baker.
Ridiculous

Without a doubt
Love this video, Keith Moon is a treasure. A crime not to show Entwhistle rocking his solo. How effortless Townsend makes his guitar rips look. Definitely one of the GOATS.

John Bonham
It was tradghic , he definately nails it home. 🙄
Bonham and Moon both died at 32 same year i think too

Hands down my favorite version!! Love the rawness of it. All those guys are just dripping coolness in this video. RIP ALWAYS JOHN AND KEITH!!
Surely the best version, most wonderful, what a group of talented musicians.
Much prefer it to the album version..more of a live sound..
Roger- lead vocals
Keith- lead drums
John- lead bass
Pete- lead guitars
Everyone’s job in this group was just over the top and in your face. You couldn’t just watch the guitar player and/or the frontman. All four were the frontmen and masters of their places in the band.

The boys looked as if they had a right laugh 😆 doing this recording!! Keith moon and John entwistle may you both rest in peace and hope roger and Pete are friends now after falling out 👍
What I love about The Who is that they're not a one man band. There are a lot of bands where people only know the singers where with The Who all the boys are known. Roger Daltrey - brilliant front man and singer, Pete Townshend - energetic guitarist, John Entwistle - too-cool-for-school bassist who made it look so easy and then there's Keith Moon. Don't need to say anymore, absolute madman and one of the best drummers of all time.
True. But would they have been anything without Pete Townshend's brilliant songwriting?
@@alwa6954 No. But they also wouldn't be the band they were/are without Rogers vocals and John and Keith's amazing skills. They were all vital to each other, which is what made them great.
@@tommy2917 Yes, they did a good job. But Townshend's songs have been covered by many many people so I'm guessing that he could have found plenty of other people to perform his songs with him and still been recognizably The Who but without Pete Towshend you don't have The Who anymore. You have 3 talented musicians/performers looking for something to perform.
@@alwa6954 Townshend has proved he's still a great song writer even at his age now. Their new album is solid.
Good point. There are only handful of bands that I can name even one or two members.
