man, whoever made the decision to film this on proper film needs a pat on the back because here we are in 2021 and this looks AMAZING
Director Jeff Stein shot this in 35mm, as well as the aborted Kilburn show from December 1977.

Every band from this era should go back and remaster their videos. Looks like it was shot last week.
hard process and the films rolls/camera need to be very specific for possible remaster. I dont think many gig videos were recorded with movie film cameras.
@@diddymies but if it sells, why not. Worth the try IMHO.
JiTiAr35 these were recorded on film most wouldn’t be recorded on film because it wouldn’t be needed
Most video recordings in the eighties were made onto magnetic tape. The quality of those is not the best. However, with footage done on film like this, you don't need remastering, just a good copy and scanning it in 4K. That's it.
@@endreszatmari2302 oh that's a great point. Shooting on film was the key.
I love the internet for letting me watch a Baba O Reilly live performance from the 1970s. Beautiful!

More like the guitar player kept his part simple and kept time
What's a lead bass player and lead drummer? They just hold the backline and have a couple of solos. If anything they're all beats and chords.🤣

All rock and roll roads led to the Tarrant County Convention Center in Ft Worth Texas. I saw so many great bands in the 1970s. The Who included. Phenomenal performance.

John’s bass playing and his tone is pure heaven in this gig.

John made me a bassist as a kid, got into jazz/funk later, can not play now because of arthritis, he was unique
Amazing bassist
Brilliant bassist
Looks like his heart rate never got over 65 bpm.
Small factoid: The microphones they are using (Shure SM58 for the lead singer and Shure SM57 for guitarist) have now been the industry standard for over five decades and are still being manufactured basically unchanged since their release in 1965/1966. Just goes to show that a good product does not need to change just for the sake of it being on the market for a long time.
They used the 565’s
If it ain't broke, don't fix it
Are you Shure about that?
They have been used for live appearances more because of their durability - they are built like a tank - than their sonic superiority
@@pjones6749 Yup, considering how Roger uses it there it better had to be built like a tank.
VERY rare to see a live version that so perfectly reproduces the studio version AND to see the young beauties in their prime. The skill and settled charisma. I saw it in Elvis and later Sinatra. VERY rare!
I love that no matter how much energetic frenzy was going on around him Entwistle just did his own thing and was chill.

Pure class. Would love to have seen this line up in concert.
It was shot to film in a theater-style room at Shepperton Studios - done for the documentary The Kids Are Alright. Looked great on the big screen when I first saw the film in 1979; the remaster looks better.
When something is shot on film but on good film with a great fine grain it can be scanned and digitalized with a higher quality and detail which is easily transferable to 4K
When CHAOS and CALMNESS combine for a great song.
Daltrey. Love his rough and ready power vocals and stage presence

What a psychedelic experience it must have been, watching them live on stage. The older generation was so lucky.
Indeed. I was there in Golden Hall in San Diego during The Who's "Tommy Tour" on June 13, 1970. The four of them came bouncing onto the stage wearing white jumpsuits, and proceeded to play the entire "Tommy" album non-stop from start to finish. (At least it seemed that way to me; the link below says a few songs were omitted.) I adored the Tommy album, and had not expected such a treat.

Mary, you took the words right out of my mouth. Saw them 4th row at the Forum. Saw Queen, Pink Floyd front row center. Now I’m getting a hip replacement next month. But you’re right, wouldn’t change a thing.
Entwistle is goals. How he just stands there calmly doing his thing, doesn't feel the need to put out the same insane amount of energy as the other guys. I love how cool he is in his own skin.
If you haven't, listen to the lyrics to "The Quiet One" which John wrote.
To be fair, he is probably as high as a kite. He just knew the right drugs to do on stage, and what to do off stage. But, he didn't know when to stop.
Probably cause he’s playing bass as well

It would have been great if Keith had the passion for his musical talent that could have overcome the demons within him, reinvented himself and got back into a physical shape that let him continue his work, but sadly it was not to be.
