I think a lot of the Spiritbox fans forgot that Josh came from a very big band and was known for his cleans. I'm very happy he's got such a clear role here and it blends perfectly.

Nobody that already knew Josh "forgot". We've been waiting for it since he joined. It's just that AILD isn't well known among the people that are coming into metal _through_ bands like Spiritbox and their contemporaries.

He originally didn't want to do vocals. Guess he changed his mind. I'm glad he did

Josh's vocals work so well in the mix because his voice is SUCH a strong compliment to Courtney's. I'd love to see how early Spiritbox stuff like Trust Fall sounds live now that he's there to boost what they can do in the moment on stage.

Josh does backing vocals on Too Close/Too Late (along with Mike), and also on Jaded. But this is the first time he's been given so much backing vocals to do. In fact, on the main chorus, his is the higher register vocal and hers is the lower.

Basically she's dead in this music video, she starts out on the morgue table, when she walks out of that room for the first time, she is now in that white dress (a ghost/spirit) throughout the music video you see barnacles, coral and seaweed everywhere, and when she is on her knees in the water towards the end she sees her reflection as the creature.
As the creature and herself walk towards each other they also walker exactly the same step for step.

Right. But also... I think she's right that it's Courtney singing about meaningful real stuff.

6:30 I *_love_* how crisp her voice is in this section. They've been killing it with the mixing lately, not just in overall sound, but in the art of moments like that to get a little more bite into the sound. This song has been a total earwig for me since it came out, and along with the general composition, the way the lyrics let Courtney's voice soar around the song with Josh's balanced vocals giving such an enjoyable harmony between the male and female voices, it's just so good! Everyone involved in this song (and video) did great.

The live video of Circle With Me from Louder Than Life has Tati from Jinjer doing featured vocals, including some epic backing vocals. I feel emotional every time I watch and listen. There's something incredibly awesome about it.

Since this song came out I can't help but think back to an interview she did at some point where she said something along the lines of being uncomfortable when the praise for her is talking about how flawless and perfect etc she is because it makes her worry more about what will happen when they make something they don't love, because she's NOT perfect, and she certainly doesn't feel like she is.

  • @jjwhalen2587

I read the lyrics as sort of having imposter syndrome and not being able to escape the box people put you in. The lines about shining a light in a 1000 eyes seems like she's blinding people to the truth, and they're watching and waiting in judgement of what she'll do next. But she's a person with her own life and dreams that she feels trapped out of because of the expectations. In the end, she gives up and just becomes what people expect (turning the light out so they're no longer blinded).

My interpretation of the video is that she's dead the whole time. In the beginning they're performing an autopsy on her, and at the end it shows her body washed up on shore.

Overproduced and too clean and clinical, as always. Should be grittier - it’s like they want their stuff to be used in commercials rather than be felt at gut level.

@@mm9773 They've literally always offered both sides of the coin. Allllll the way back to Mara Effect, they've had softer, cleaner songs... and then songs like Belcarra, Beauty of Suffering, Holy Roller...
Like, it's so fucking weird to complain that they supposedly don't have grittier, harsher music. They've always had those songs up to counterpart the cleaner stuff.

    • @mm9773

@@erra7552 That’s not what I mean at all, I’m talking about the production: for example, check out “Map Change” by Every Time I Die and “Take the Night off” by Sick of it All: you can actually hear what happened in the recording studio, not all super polished sounds. There’s some dirt, and that’s what this kind of music needs.
