Here is another must hear Canadian band.. Unleash The Archers - Awakening (full band playthrough) The band is killer and lead singer Brittney Slayes is a powerhouse🤘🇨🇦
The amount of Courtney's harsh varies from song to song. Holy Roller is heavy on the harsh. Constance is heavy on the cleans. Rule of nines also has a vocal one take video.
Canadian performers? You could check out Devin Townsend. He has a vibe unlike anyone else. Brittany from Unleash the Archers is a force of nature, or my personal favorite Alissa White-Gluz from Arch Enemy among others. She recently teamed with Nita Strauss (an awesome guitarist) to do the Wolf You Feed. It's headbanging heaven ❤
Great review, but I am out. I saw the "Hamsters be detected" warning at the bottom of the screen, and I promised myself if the hamsters ever came back again, I'd just quickly pack a bag and go. Too many people didn't take that warning serious enough last time, and paid the price for it. Good luck, everybody.
Everyone thinks the NYC rats are bad, but they've never seen a herd of hamsters charging across the tundra leaving only a trail of death and destruction as they head toward their next victim.
"Protest The Hero" is another great Canadian Prog-metal band. The music sometimes can be very hectic/intense but they do have some great tracks & their vocalist is incredibly talented for sure.
One of my favorite spiritbox songs, "hamsters be detected" Spiritbox is actually going on tour with another Canadian band soon, one of my favorites, Intervals. I have a joke that my favorite genre is Canada because a lot of my favorite bands are Canadian 😂. I feel like music education must be way better up there because a lot of them are super technical.
Courtney and Brittney Slayes (Unleash the Archers) are from Victoria and Devin Townsend from is Coquitlam, BC. Devin is easily one the greatest Canadian musical artists of all time, and possibly the most unknown in his own country!
Oh this is funny. I knew both Brittney and Devin but had no idea they were Canadian. The first (and only one I thought I knew) Canadian artist that came to my mind is Alissa White-Gluz. TIL.
Courtney can legitimately turn anyone into a metalhead. 😂 She's one of a kind. Love watching your commentary! You're so entertaining, and you keep it simple and fun! You're adorable to boot! Instant fan! 😄
Spiritbox is a such a great Canadian gem. Their album Eternal Blue is such a great listen to as even at their harshest/heaviest moments there is still a beauty to their sound. I highly suggest checking out all the one take performances that Courtney has for their songs, "Rules of Nine" especially. Tons of great tracks to check out that really showcase their range as a band. Also huzzah for being Canadian, hello from northern Ontario.
Courtney is a goddess! Anyone who sings will tell you how difficult it is to switch between cleans and screams that quickly, the way she did at the end. She does it flawlessly, and makes it look easy!
Other Canadian metal singers/bands Devin Townsend, Alissa White-Gluz from Arch Enemy, Unleash the Archers (Brittany Slayes has mind melting high notes), and Kobra and the Lotus (Kobra Paige is the singer). Alissa White-Gluz and Kobra Page have both worked as touring singers for the American band Kamelot (a lot of significant singers have worked for Kamelot).
Another female Canadian singer is in a band by Red Handed Denial, and I highly recommend their newer song/album called Fix Me, very emotional; hits home for what I would say a majority of the populace that suffers from depression in general.
If you want a Canadian band, I suggest Unleash the Archers and their songs: awakening and Tonight we Ride. You’ll certainly like it, they are very fun to watch and their vocalist is a powerhouse.
Not a Canadian, but I can recommend some music for you. The band unleash the Archers, check out the songs, Awakening, Tonight we ride, or their cover of Northwest Passage. Also the band Arch Enemy, who’s singer Alyssa is Canadian, some songs would be Handshake with Hell, Nemesis ( live from Waken), & one of my favorites the Watcher. Loving the channel by the way you’re doing amazing.
Courtney is the only vocalist I know who can switch between growls and cleans mid-word. There's a limited number of people who can do it even mid-sentence. Obvious example is Tati from Jinjer. Check Teacher Teacher!
If you do fry scream is not that hard honestly, it requires some practice but you can easily master it. If you only do false chord screams is a bit harder because you have to learn how to swich smoothly between cleans and the false folds distortion without touching your true vocal cords. That shit is hard, I know it because I do it ahah
@@dragonblazer96 kin from 12 foot ninja , rex from arms reach , gabe from the blacktides and so many more i have seen live over the 40+ years i have watched bands all do it.
If you want another Canadian metal band then you have to check out Unleash the Archers. The singer is Brittney Slayes and her voice is insane. I'd recommend Tonight We Ride to see more of her vocals or Awakening for more of a band playthrough
Courtney is one of a kind and one of a kind of a vocal queen she has her special signature style to her vocals for her all her songs she's been doing this for a while Glad you enjoyed it I hope you watch more of Courtney from Spirit box❤
The ending lines of this one-take are always a testament to just how talented Courtney is... Non-bold: Clean vocals // Bold: Unclean vocals Birds of prey never falter. It could *all* be yours. This could *all* be *yours.* *Circle with me.* Just the way she switches it on and off like that... 🤌🤌🤌
They’re an amazing outfit. Can wait to see them at the end of April on their headline tour! Checkout Rule of Nines, Holy Roller, Blessed Be, Hurt You, Belcarra, Bleach Bath…can’t go wrong with any of their stuff. Would love to see a Jinjer/Spiritbox tour…
I just found your page randomly when I looked this video up, and I’m such a fan! I love your positive energy, it is very comforting and fun to be around. I can’t wait to check out more!
I absolutely adore watching Courtney work. The way she works herself up with the music... When I listen to music I tend to do a lot of just swaying back and forth... and she does the same thing and it's just nice to see someone really getting into their music. Sam Carter from Architects has some similar (to me at least) techniques as to what she does in the bridge/breakdown. Actually now that I think of it... I think a duet of them doing this would be absolutely fantastic.
They are great live. They were the opening band for Mastodon and Ghost. Spiritbox was the only reason why I went. It was also cool to find out she was born in the same town that night. Bangor ME
Spiritbox had songs before but their first full length album from 2021. Eternal Blue is a masterpiece I think you would love almost every song on there
If you want to hear a fantastic live performance of them, you should watch "The Mara Effect live at Silverside Sound". Should leave you in awe. I call it the "Spiritbox Symphony". An early but all-time masterpiece. Fantastic music, Courtney's full range of vocals in one piece and all kind of emotion, great composition, great music (and the only - short - real guitar solo of her husband with Spiritbox ever). 16 min. that are really, really well spent (it is a song trilogy in one take with full band, meant to be one closed entity), it was the first 3 songs of their first EP, they were fantastic from the beginning. The only video of them, where you get the full bandwidth of their skills and songwriting.
6:51 there are quite a few bands that do that, if you listen to Currents, the vocalist does that very often in their screams, another would be the band Landmvrks.
Long time fan, and finally got to see them live at Knotfest Sydney. They are a great live band and so happy they came down to my corner of the world. They were awesome.
Ok your life couldn't be complete without listening Devin Townsend. Most awesomest guy in metal scene. And he is Canadian! I recommend Deadhead (Live at Royal Albert Hall) or Kingdom (EMGtv) for a starter.
Canadian performers: Rush, Triumph, Theory of a Deadman, Finger Eleven, Three Days Grace, Kataklysm, Devon Townsend, Default, Unleash The Archers, Threat Signal, The Agonist with and without Alissa White-Gluz, Arch Enemy with Alissa White-Gluz, Annihilator, Nickleback, Shania Twain, Terri Clark and Dallas Smith from Default as a country singer on his own. I believe Courtney LaPlante was in another band called Iwrestledabearonce. Hope this helps. You're doing great keep it up. I like your glasses by the way.
Sleep Token is a band you should most definitely check out. They have an awesome singer with a unique voice. I would recommend The Love You Want, or Mine, or Bloodsport live from the room below. They switch genre's like crazy, from metal to electronic, to pop and everywhere in-between.
Love to see Canadians reacting to Canadian bands. We have PLENTY to choose from: 3 inches of blood, strapping young lad, Arival of Autumn, Unleash The Archers and sooo many more. You ever get to see these guys live DO IT. Courtney and the crew are amazing live.
If you might like to check out more Spiritbox, I can highly vouch for “Rule of Nines” (either the official video or the one-take performance, or both) and “Holy Roller” (likewise either the official video or the one-take performance, or both). They’re an incredible band, and I’m so stoked to see how much you’ve been digging them!
There have been quite a few huge canadian bands as of late -- Spiritbox, Brand of Sacrifice, Angelmaker, even the vocalist of Arch Enemy is from Quebec!
I'm so agree with you, this mix between growl and tons of clarity in the way she sing is very unique, I've never heard that before altough, you should take a ear to Andy Cizek, he has a very exceptionnal voice too ! 🤘🏻🔥
Check out Protest the Hero if you want to hear a phenomenal Canadian band. There's also this one obscure band that only released one crazy album that was a sci-fi concept story, band is called What's He Building In There (they have one music video "Avian Taxi")
Gotta love your reactions, everything is so cool and spontaneous! It's very refreshing to see! That being said, Sleep Token is a band I think you would like to check out. They're taking the metal scene by storm with their latests releases, especially "The Summoning". Cheers and keep up the good work!
The music video and lyrics for Constance by Spiritbox breaks my heart everytime, would love to see you react to that at some point. Great content, thanks!
as a fellow Canadian I would suggest you react to Unleash the Archers, Awakening. Another stellar female-fronted band from BC. There are scores of amazing Canadians bands.
Canada represent indeed! Glad you enjoyed the Victoria natives! Next it's time to hop across the strait to Vancouver for Unleash the Archers (recommending Awakening - full band playthrough) and Devin Townsend (recommending Kingdom - Live with EMGtv). For more Spiritbox, the Rule of Nines one-take is also excellent.
Great reaction Rachel! I am not normally a big fan of harsh vocals however when interspersed with a beautiful female voice, I do enjoy the sound. If you haven't listened to Unleash the Archers, they are another Canadian metal band with a talented female lead singer. I recommend the song Awakening.
Lutharo, Karkaos, Lindsay Schoolcraft, Blood Ceremony, Kittie, HAG, Big Brave, Juliet Ruin, Kobra and the Lotus, The Order of Chaos, Catagory VI, The Agonist, and Diemonds are a few bands with female vocalists from Canada. In case you're interested. And of course, Unleash the Archers!
There's a number of great Canadian Bands. I suggest you check out Unleash the Archers. You will love Brittney Slayes (Hayes), their singer. You might also like Devin Townsend.
I am glad you took my suggestion to look into Spiritbox. Other Canadian bands you may want to look into, Rush, Strapping Young Lad, Devin Townsend, Despised Icon, Ion Dissonance, Iwrestledabearonce.
Knowing you love Floor and powerful women vocalists, I suggest Lara Fabian, je suis malade. Lara is a Canadian/Belgian singer, her emotional performances are incredible
I terms of canadian bands i want to mention The Agonist. The former lead singer has moved on the Arch Enemy but the band is stilll amazing. If you want to check them out try In Vertigo or Remnants In Time. If you want the original line up Thank You Pain or Panophobia.
Your reviews are so genuine and to the point! Had to subscribe. You should do Tommy Johansson's version of Phantom of the Opera!! He's an absolute powerhouse.
I love this song! I just started listening to this band the other day and they are great. Some other Canadian bands I would definitely recommend are the power metal band Unleash The Archer's from Vancouver and Freeze The Fall which is a brand new band that just released their first official single Glitch a couple weeks ago. Freeze The Fall calls The Warning their biggest inspiration and Spiritbox is one of their influences as well.

I love it when Courtney is kinda stalking around the mic like a boxer around an opponent. Very talented.
Yeah, she looks like she's attacking the microphone 😂
Like she's circling her prey.
I call it the tekken stance
Reminds me of the idle animations from Tekken or Street Fighter characters :D
Kinda intimidating tho ^^

The end of this song is an absolute clinic in how to swap between clean and harsh vocals.
Rarely hear the back to back to back like that. Super impressive.
The ending part is the best part of this performance. Slaps so hard.
Absolutely, Her ability to mix and match and so flawlessly jump in and out like that is Crazy talented and impressive.

THIS! Please check out Unleash the Archers. Awakening and Tonight we Ride are great for reaction videos.
I concur
Tonight We Ride is way better at showcasing the pipes and a much catchier tune.
@@thatowl But Awakening is more of a musical showcase of all the members as a unit. Both songs are 100% bangers though!

Yeah Alissa is amazing especially in Panophobia with The Agonist
All three are must see.
“Brittney” Slayes, Unleash the Archers.

“Hamsters Be Detected” - Thanks to the ridiculousness of the closed captioning, I’ve found the name of my new music project.
