      Could you PLEASEE make a video on how to preserve your curls while wearing a hijab? All the videos on it are by women with type 4 hair and their hair is different from mine so I can't make box braids underneath my hijab

    Thank you! So much of what you're sharing is revelatory! I can't believe the stylists I've seen over the yrs have NEVER shared how to keep my fine, curly hair moisturized.
    At 60 it's thinning, too, so, dull, frizzy peekaboo scalp. YIKES!
    Now, I can make a plan. Huge gratitude.

    So many products! You are right what works for your hair won't work for another's person hair. I spent a lot of money buying different products just because influencers in RUclips keep saying "I love this product" do they really love it or is just to make people like me run to the store and buy the products they advertise. Since my budget is tight now ( the economy) I decided to try to figure it out which products and brands I can use and mixed to make my curls look healthier I have a ton of products that Ulta will be jealous of me 😂😂🤣

    Gena I just wanna say THANK YOU SO MUCH for your videos!! They are SO informative! it’s taken me a full 11 years to find out recently that there’s a whole panel from the the centre front of my forehead all the way back to the crown of High Porosity hair, 😱 whereas all the rest is very low porosity. Which would explain why when I style my hair using a liquid leave in as a base with glycerin in the mix, the low po part is all fine and dandy for the entire week, whereas the high po section has puffed up standing on end looking at me like ‘what’s going on Mummy?’ 🤨, and it is SO dry and breaks easily. Now it all makes perfect sense. I’m learning so much from you, but i still need to deep condition my whole head with heat coz of the mostly low po parts. Is that ok? I’m looking forward to doing a lot of experimenting and finding out what works. Sadly there’s not a lot of high porosity videos, and this past week I’ve been through tons, but yours is most definitely the most helpful, so I look forward to scouting through more. Thank you again. From one Gena to the next... 😉

    I use the tangle teezer to brush style too. I usually do the same thing - wrapping it around the handle. The denman & behairful can be too harsh for my fine hair, and I've found using more tension will actually pull my curl out in some sections, while the tangle teezer helps me get more of an even curl pattern.
    Your results look amazing!

    Hi Curlfriend! Great vid. Always such succinct real life explanations! I did also watch the curl chemistry vid -- so good, too. Question: if moisture is needed mid wash cycle, do you think that means refreshing with just water, and/or moisturizing curl cream or moisturizing gel (eg the souffle)? I can't figure out if I'm gunking up my hair by adding a but more cream or maybe just a watered down moisturizing gel. I know adding protein gel does not work for my low porosity coarse thick type 3 does not work!

    • @GenaMarie
      @GenaMarie  2 года назад +1

      Glad it was helpful! Yes, I personally feel that adding some water and some product is moisturizing the hair. I think somewhat of a balance is good, because you don't want to excessively soak your hair and re-dry it every day because that can be damaging, but misting it with water and adding a bit of product shouldn't hurt. I also try and skip refreshing when possible, like on day 2.

    Is there anything I can use in place of a clarifying shampoo? I change my color often, the only time I've used clarif shampoo is for fading my colors to avaoid using harsh chemicals like flat out bleach.
    I've been figuring out my curls constantly about a year, thought my whole life i was cursed with unmanageable stupid hair that required a flat iron. Even then my hair could go from great to hell by the end of the day and certainly the next morning.
    You know the kind of hair you take out of a bun and instead of falling naturally it kinda stays there then looks drastic even WITH OUT every using hairspray.
    From what I gather the top half of my hair will eventually catch up, its got the most damage to repair.
    I love your videos. Thank you for so much information 💗

    Hi Gena! I don’t know if you will see my comment, I know this video was made a few weeks ago, but I wanted to ask, when it comes to sleeping with a bonnet on, do you think even the way one sleeps on their hair boils down to density and curl type? I’ve found for my hair type I could never use a bonnet because I would wake up the next day with my curls completely wonky or messed up and I always tried multiple ways to fix this issue but it never worked for me, my best preservation method for my hair is using an ivisibobble, gathering my hair into a pineapple and then the strands that are not long enough to reach the pineapple I cover my entire head with a scarf and I am able to keep my hair looking pretty intact with the exception of some stretching in the back areas, but I always wondered if certain methods just can never work on certain hair types? Thank you for this video! :)

  • @brookearceneaux7818

    Very informative! I wonder if my moisture/protein balance has been off. I always that my “flash drying” or “wet frizz” was related to aloe Vera. Maybe I was just using too much protein and not enough moisture 🤷🏼‍♀️ on your research of the topic did anything come up about aloe Vera?

    • @GenaMarie
      @GenaMarie  2 года назад

      I haven't had a chance to research it yet but I might do that one next for my mythbusting video because some gels with aloe are great whereas others can give me a flash drying effect. I don't think they have enough moisture or oils.

    How do you make sure you aren’t going to over-moisturize your hair during a moisturizing routine?

    • @GenaMarie
      @GenaMarie  2 года назад +5

      Interesting point! I’ve never had that issue with over moisture because my hair is half coarse and overall very dry. I think incorporating protein like I did, and also absorbing some of the excess water with a towel before diffusing helps to not get weighed down from water and product. I also damp style so I don’t have a ton of water in my hair.

  • @elhammer6000

    Is the multitasking conditioner hydrating for the hair or would you more consider it a reconstruction mask?

    • @GenaMarie
      @GenaMarie  2 года назад +2

      It’s both! Curlsmith says it’s low in protein so it’s balanced, and not something that would cause protein overload.

    My hair is such a mess all the time! Is the trick that I need to blow dry it. I basically follow what you do but wash before sleeping and let it air dry through the night. Is the air drying my down fall??

    • @GenaMarie
      @GenaMarie  2 года назад

      Yes! You don’t want to sleep with wet hair because it can be damaging and not good for the scalp. Curls will dry wonky and frizzy. Diffusing is better to set the gel cast right away and hold the curls. If I wash at night I diffuse until it’s completely dry (usually takes 11-15 min). Then I leave the gel cast in, put on a bonnet, and go to sleep. I threw scrunch out any unwanted cast the next morning.
