    I'm 64, live along the pacific coast, and I'm just looking to contribute more with the years I have left. I was a private pilot. I like photography, but was not professional. I've made a couple of small videos before, for weddings and birthdays. It just appeals to me now, to be among people, and saving memories. I was even involved in mapping, in the military, for missile shots and recovery operations. This all appeals to me! But I think I'll start small, with the weddings &/or real estate stuff. I'm sure they will be tough enough customers for now. Thanks Brett! I'm subscribed, I'll go check out all of your other videos next. You are very personable and professional! So I hope to learn that from you as well, relative to this business anyway.

I'm still waiting to hear from a couple of them, but it seems promising. If I get the job I will be doing real estate primarily, and evidently a lot of it as this company is popular. Regardless, this is my path, it will go slower than I want perhaps, or maybe get fast tracked by a job. We'll see. Meanwhile I live in such a beautiful place I'll be more than happy to fly locally for movies & pictures on my own dime as it were.

    For the guys living in rural areas like myself. Talk to livestock ranches, game reserves an hunting ranches.
    They pay a group of cowboys (though usually already working for the ranch) to search with dogs and find 1 cow or multiple.
    The dogs run in and find the animal and run it out to be roped.
    Use the drones with thermal cameras to search for missing livestock or to keep track of game population per acre.
    Using anything flying on any type of game is very illegal if used wrong. So check with your state's regulations before a game warden stops you.
    Also to check hog traps on big farms that might have 10 traps and dont want to spend time on a side x side checking each one.
    The mapping for this might work great also.

    • @fredericopereira6444
      @fredericopereira6444 3 года назад +1

      @@brettgaramella I am really puzzled here... what is the issue with the Mavic Mini?
      It can do 2.7k at 30fps which is more than enough to do a shitload of paying jobs.
      Being a pro and being able pay thousands for a drone to do pro gigs is awesome but don't put all your hopes on your drone. It's just a tool. If you know how to do shit you'll ge the job done with the Mavic Mini, trust me.
      Also, you can't just start a business which you know nothing about and start spending that much money...
      you need to be smart and start slow to see if it gets you somewhere.
      Once you can fuck around and do what you want on a budget tool-set maybe you can move on a start getting the more expensive shit. This is exactly the same reason why people who get into photography start with APS-C cameras or second hand gear instead of selling a kidney to buy a full-frame top of the line Leica.
      It just doesn't make sense to tell people to drop AT LEAST 2k on a drone to start playing around...

    • @brettgaramella
      @brettgaramella  3 года назад +4

      @@fredericopereira6444 If you are happy with your drone business, then keep it up. Spending $2K on a drone is not that much overhead if you want to start a drone business. You may get some jobs with using a Mavic Mini, but it will be difficult to turn into a full-time business. You want to retain your clients, and having the right equipment is a part of doing business, and will allow you to charge more per job. But like I said, if you can do it with the Mavic Mini, that's great, but your portfolio, the clients you get, and your net profit will be so much better when you have a drone like the Phantom 4 Pro or Inspire 2.

    • @hendrsb33
      @hendrsb33 4 года назад

      @Matthew W The way I understand it, there's registration of a drone and certification to fly a drone for business or work. You must register your drone if it weighs over .55 lbs. Otherwise, you can fly small drones as a hobbyist. If you expect to fly larger drones for profit, you have to get certification... kind of like getting a CDL if you want to be a pro truck driver. As someone who's just starting out, I plan to register my drone, then take it outside of town to practice for my certification. I figure there's less potential to piss off a neighbor or incur the attention of cops if I'm practicing out in the desert where I'm not bothering anyone.

    • @hendrsb33
      @hendrsb33 4 года назад

      @Matthew W I'm also lucky that there's a local "airport" in my area where people regularly fly their RC airplanes and drones. I know that I'm safe to fly drones there and they even have electrical outlets to keep batteries charged and a shaded area where I can sit and fly.

    Man, Brett, I am really sorry to say it but drone business is really drying up. I have been working my drone since 2017 but starting around Sept, for me, things are bad for the private fellow like me. One of the main problems is there are suddenly tons of pilots working without a 107. The worst of big photography companies. Because they already have a huge share of the photographic market they just use a drone as another camera without regard to the FAA law. The same goes for real estate companies. They buy a drone and assign a worker as the pilot. They may or may not get him a 107. Either way, when you contact them they just tell you they already have a drone pilot. I have seen this over and over again. Companies like DroneBase, where I use to make a majority of my money are turning more enterprise and are not looking much for small-time jobs. My jobs for them have dried up in the last six months. Any jobs that DroneBase offers anymore are for less than a hundred bucks and they want you to drive 50 or more miles to do it. Then soon we are going to have to look at the ridiculous rules the FAA is going to impose soon. It's not worth the effort anymore but it still is a nice hobby.

    • @StanCook

      @@brettgaramella Thanks for checking Brett. Things are bad on the Seattle side. Most of the problem up here is/was the nursing homes. 30 deaths of our 50 some at one place. Now I am told that 52 others there have the virus. We are on the western side of Puget Sound and we only had our first case in our county yesterday. None the less we just stay home. Since all this started we have only been off our property twice to pick up some meds and food. We are going to keep doing that as long as we have to. Stay safe also my friend.

    Your skill in drone flying should be enough. I believe it's just another money grab.
    People know not to fly over 400', keep it in the line of sight and don't do anything stupid like flying it over a bunch of people.
    Why don't they want people with cell phone video cameras to get a license.

    Why does no one talk about high quality video editing? The laptop or desktop with the high end hardware that will enable you to edit 4k at 60 Fps will cost more than the 2k drone. It will take months to learn the editing software to get you to the point of producing a quality video product in a timely manner for your customers. Really depends what type of clients or video you're shooting, but yes, it can improve your production value and creativity. And most FPV pilots who get hired for commercial work get paid as much as Inspire 2 pilots because of the sophistication and degree of difficulty it takes to fly an FPV drone well.

    I love this video, TY! I was gifted a DJI Inspire 1 Pro (little brother is a producer/film maker and used the drone for some amazing projects)....I'm 45, Commercial rated Fixed wing pilot.....and with the pandemic and all the other crap....I have had to reimagine what I can do with my education and licenses. Drones became #1! I'm participating in a new PT107 Drone program (Aquiline Drones), that focuses on manual flight and autonomous flight. But not experience in drones at all really....I know all the flight rules and airspaces, everything it took me to be a commercial pilot....but with this new added realm of flying is awesome! Already have real-estate agents local that I reached out to about work and what they need, and its HUGE! HUGE car guy, so also reached out to all my car groups to do shoots of their meets and such also. Im excited for this new field (to me)! And cant wait to get going! Thanks guys/gals at Drone Pilot Pro, you videos are awesome!

    I have a few questions
    1:) don't see any update videos of you talking about mapping inspection.
    2:) So pretty much this drone business is about hustling jobs to get hire?
    3:) You talking about the test where can I study for drone licence?
    4:) Isn't Yamaha a have a helicopter that spray pesticides over farms. I'm guessing that a mapping drone.
    5:) how do you get a job over seas? By looking at your default video on this?
    6:) how do I find a drone person who would like to rent my website to help him/her build client on finding job

    • @brettgaramella

      Hello Bluecavemen,
      1:) don't see any update videos of you talking about mapping
      inspection.
      Been working on a few of my drone courses, so that video won’t come out until next year.
      2:) So pretty much this drone business is about hustling jobs to get hire?
      There is hustle involved, but it’s where you look and also your marketing/business skills that allow you to get 5 and 6-figure jobs.
      3:) You talking about the test where can I study for drone licence?
      You can study for the commercial drone license test here: courses.thedronepilotpro.com/p/part-107-pro
      4:) Isn't Yamaha a have a helicopter that spray pesticides over farms. I'm guessing that a mapping drone.
      That’s crop spraying, which is different from mapping, though they are in the same field so to speak. Mapping allows pilots to know where to spray.
      5:) how do you get a job over seas? By looking at your default video on this?
      That’s too big of a question. Depends on what you want to do, and where you are located.
      6:) how do I find a drone person who would like to rent my website to help him/her build client on finding job
      I don’t understand what you are asking here? Please specify.

    You probably should have talked on what it takes to make money with your drone. $2,000 is not a reasonable budget. In addition to your Part 107 license here in the US, you also have to license yourself as a business and decide what type of business structure you are going to have. You might have multiple business licenses, I had an LLC which was issued through the state and a local business license from the city I was in. Then you have to have the required insurance. You will probably need a decent sized policy. I would thing a million dollar policy would be the minimum, particularly if you will be flying over people or doing inspections at expensive facilities (i.e. powerlines). If you're doing weddings you will probably need to have a lawyer draft up liability waivers incase your drone crashes into someone. You are going to have to invest in support equipment as well. If you are getting into mapping or inspections you will have to have a good Lidar unit. You will have to have a GPS base station and rover to get accurate control points. You will probably have to pay to get training as well. Regardless of your business type, you will need a quality computer than can handle the storage and processing. You will need to appropriate software for post processing your drone footage. You will need a medium to deliver the product to the client and make sure it is viewable by the client. You will need an assistant to help you (required by the FAA). At a minimum this person is going to keep people away from you while you are flying. But if you're into cinematography for example, they may be doing things like pulling focus or controlling the camera while you are flying. If you are surveying or mapping, they might be controlling the payload while you are flying. Then there are the standard business expenses you will have like advertising. To start out realistically a person needs a minimum of $10,000 or more. You can't just buy a $2,000 drone, get your part 107 and say your in business. Far more to making money with a drone than that.

    • @brettgaramella
      @brettgaramella  3 года назад

      Well, I started out alone with a few thousand dollars and found a way to get insurance for my drone and liability as well rather cheap and with million dollar coverage. I built up everything client by client. You just have to due your due diligence... I didn't go into depth with all this as I didn't want to make a super long video.

    Please... most topics in this video are a joke now. Saturation of the drone market, most drone jobs are now incorporated in the company and a lot of places you cannot fly over or around. Liability and insurance must be carried now. Also all.. all all contents and everywhere you fly your DJI drones are tracked. Most companies will not want there drone content out everywhere which is what happens with DJI drones. Maybe others as well. In the cloud without your consent or knowledge. Please update this video with reality of now. BTW I have my 107 license too.

    • @brettgaramella
      @brettgaramella  2 года назад

      Hi John, great that you have your Part 107 license. Next step is knowing the strategies in order to land high paying clients and get 5-figure jobs. A lot of people struggle with this, which is why I finishing up a drone course to help people land clients and scale their business. The course has a pre-launch special at this moment if you want to check it out: courses.thedronepilotpro.com/p/drone-pilot-pro?coupon_code=PRELAUNCH2021
