I've never been there, but that crowd is clearly one of the great ones by U.S. measures. Just a couple of examples: they clearly felt the same shivers that I still feel today for Thick As A Brick - like even just the announcement of the song, and at the first bar, after Martin's monster solo, and really every transition. 13:05+ is one of the longest sustained unison clap-to-the-beats you'll hear. 15:55 when Thick As A Brick freakin' explodes and drops into accoustic, they explode too. 17:11, Ian: "If you're really naughty, we'll play ALL of it" and they about lost a nut. And they about lost a nut for the 6:35+ end of Nothing Is Easy and Ian's simple acknowledgement of it being from "Stand Up". That's one monster crowd. I imagine if you asked Ian, he would say that it's receptions like that, that make the whole thing worthwhile.
The crowd screamed the instant that he said he would do something from "nineteen...seventy two". (As I would do at Tull shows, as that would be announcing the playing of Thick As A Brick)
Was there....lived across the street and walked to the theater...road crew was outside in the parking lot relaxing in the sun next to tour bus before the show...struck up a conversation with the crew, talked about what an influence Martin Barre was on my guitar style....next thing I know the guy I'm talking to said he was the stage mgr and could get us all autographs.... I asked him if was ok to run home to get a guitar to sign.....he said sure, brought him my Gibson acoustic and he said to go to the left side of stage inside....inside he met us and told us to sit in front row and would bring my guitar back after the show!...(my buddy said "you'll never see that guitar again")..... sure enough he brought it to me after the show and said Ian Anderson was upset cause I had only requested Martin Barres signature..... thanks for posting this video brought back vivid memories .....
I'm going to look, maybe I have some 1998 concert/s...and thanks for making me see that I have not uploaded any of that year, except a litle TV show, Jethro Tull - Live At Vienna TV 1998.
