Also, if Pravus happens to read this: medkits are great for trading, food doesn’t rot fast at all ( click the food supplies at either the storage or the bio dome ), and robots are a lifesaver - even carrier robots are great
More veteran player of this game: Food and vegetables in Planetbase don't rot like in Dawn of Man, so you can actually stockpile food quite nicely. There are also food combos you wanna shoot for since your meal types greatly affect your colonists' welfare, hurting your prestige and preventing more colonists from entering your base. Also, it's totally fine to over-produce food, because getting a bunch of colonists to further enhance your industry will also soak up a lot of food from you. And lastly, actually do have some extra medics on board: not necessarily because they'll be treating injuries, but so they can produce a ton of medkits. Medkits are worth a lot of trade value and can be used to buy blueprints and other technology you might want to streamline your production. Hope this helps. P.S. Try to replace your exits to where your Security Centers are, because they'll detect intruders immediately and will promptly murder them.
@@p_rry Yeah, and you can get away with having a ton of medics even if you don't really need them just to produce a ton of medkits. In fact, that's usually how you get a kickstart in the final planet: not mining, instead making medkits and food, selling them for materials to further expand until you finish the game.
@@SusCalvin True, but what usually ends up happening is it gets overstocked with goods like starch and food. In any case, watching this did get my cobwebbed brain rolling on base management (Like actually moving the first landing pad for example).
Quite some games like this have that issue. Once you get the hang of it, you simply repeat the known formula. There are no new elements/challenges. Doesn't automatically mean the game is bad. It just doesn't encourage replays as much. But for when it's on sale, why not?
Few tips, 1 build more énergies collectors , as long as they are fully fill before night you will be fine, 2 build security center beside of air lock like you said to make it easier for the guards to defend. 3 build more radio and telescope because the more you have, the higher chance you have to receive transmissions or catastrophe détections.
From memory, the biggest limiting factor in this game when you get near the end of a level is that you can only have a limited number of buildings. So, to be efficient, instead of having multiple small domes, you want to make the absolute largest domes that you can. But at the other side... when you first start out, you have limited supplies, so smaller domes are better. You just have to accept you might have to dismantle everything and rebuild it later. On top of that, going the larger domes, you'll find for example, it only costs double the resources, but you can fit 3 times the items in many of the rooms, the biodome where you're growing plants for example, you pretty much always want to go with a large dome.
I used a tactic on raiders on this game, the basics are thus: watch for visitors, if they are armed ( the suits will be a different color than normal visitors) lock the airlock that is closest to them which forces them to divert to the next door. Just keep doing that and if they can't get inside in a short timeframe; they will suffocate outside. You just need to keep an eye out for the ships and which doors need to be turned off to make them divert path.
How to deal with intruders. Build you control room and have at least 2 stations where your armed guards will sit then a long airlock off that to the startport. Intruders only enter through there and the guards "great them"
Colour me impressed. You didn't even skip a beat while a meteor just slammed into your wind turbine. Great video as always Pravus, keep up the good work ^_^
i really wish there was a game like this but open world multiplayer, where you can literally take a spot and build your own colony there. somewhat similar to planetside2 playstyle but individual control zones across the planet
I played the hell out of this game. made a couple of scenarios for it as well. You get to the end planet and build a complete base then you have done something. people saying this has no replay value never went far enough. once you understand the basic stuff you need to survive it gets really easy, but meteoroids can really mess you up. i had a great base going, large canteen, and a meteor slammed in, killed most of my biologists who seem to be having a party, prestige fell and i couldnt get anyone in. lost the base. horrible way to lose. but sure was exciting
Pravus, what do you think of paradox "borrowing" some of the ideas from this game to implement into their "Surviving Mars"? You can tell that some of these ideas (like milestones, building domes, making connections e.t.c) were borrowed from this game. Is this ethical or should they at least shout out this company for some of these ideas and mechanics?
One of my old favorites. It still is fun to fire it up and play. The challenges are fun and it took me quite some time to get all the achievements. It would be nice if they remastered it and upgraded the graphics.
Had this game for years, and played it for like 20-30 hours, It's not really fun to replay, but a great timewaster while u wait for something, or do something else.
In my humble opinion planetbase has the same problem as surviving mars: a shallow endgame. After you stabilise your colony, unlock and build everything, there is nothing else to do. At least here there is a feel of dwarf fortress like spiral of death, but in the end you will either abandon your colony or intentionally make it go to hell.
The alert has to be red for the guards to watch for intruders that they cross and the yellow alert just tells the colonist to stay inside because of weather.
I have some advice for you if you are gonna start a more than one episode series, keep and eye on your food and power level, if you don't your base could easily be sent into a huge death spiral,(mostly food shortage will cause this).
I remember this game, I still like it, tho I would like to see a remaster version note: if u build mult security fisilities and have the guards to run them, then intruders are easy to take out.
Well for beginner tutorial is not bad (some things wrong but nothing major) but for the other planets you need to make things different (like a construction order , type of people or lack of it, also the distance of things).
Frankly it makes a lot of difference whether you play DoM or PB first. I personally played Planetbase long ago, and seeing DoM my immediate reaction was "Wh-Bu- IT'S PLANETBASE WITH A DIFFERENT SKIN WHAT THE FUCK" (Granted, I've softened up since then)
Doubtful. He has shown to just be another shitty billionaire. Look at his covid view or his attack on unions. And his hatred for the poor. He wont land on mars because he is no genius.
Yup. Makes me wonder if Pravus has seen it -- I know a lot of folks here on RUclips have missed Space Odyssey 2001, despite the homages EVERYWHERE in film and media. :D
"Good segue to the next series"? Am I the only one sensing a Surviving Mars series coming up?
Could be the currently running FTL series too. Or Oxygen not included. Or possibly even Tekkit returning?!
My guess would be the Tekkit season 3 he's hinted at before :D
I would love a surviving mars series
Maybe even Aven colony
I'm surprised he's never played surviving mars yet
Biologist here: Whatever you do don't let your biologist be the medics. Just don't
They'll turn every one of their patients into vegetables :)
What about security guards?
I mean like, security guards generally have basic paramedic training so they should be able to do a half decent job at not killing their patient.
They'll turn everyone into their geniepigs
Biologist introduces a Mars COVID by mistake when treating a rash.
Love planetbase, played it a few years back and kind of forgot about it. Would love to see a mini series on it!
Also, if Pravus happens to read this: medkits are great for trading, food doesn’t rot fast at all ( click the food supplies at either the storage or the bio dome ), and robots are a lifesaver - even carrier robots are great
oh and red alerts are for intruders, yellow alerts are for sandstorms

16JSundberg4 also he used a yellow alert for intruders, you are supposed to use red
You want stuff in storage at least. There is some degradation if you leave it out on the ground, I think.

Its a fun time spender, not super replayable though, growth turns into building the same domes over and over
I mean.... yeah. I don’t know what to say or how to respond...
@@communistspaceman8971 but is true, basically the same problem I get with dawn of man, although in a much smaller scale

24:15 fermentation and distillation. as a wine connoisseur you should know that :P you could make vodka from birchbark but it tastes awful

Yes, he can see on the Percentage of them ho effective they are, the first build only provides 30%, so 3 are needed for god efficency.
Bit late, but i always have a completly encapsulated landing bay and just disable the air lock if intruders turn up and let them suffocate
the monolith is a reference to the obelisk 2001: A Space Odyssey, I'm surprised you didn't catch it!
'My God, it's full of stars.'

if this becomes a large series I will binge it all
How to deal with intruders. Build you control room and have at least 2 stations where your armed guards will sit then a long airlock off that to the startport. Intruders only enter through there and the guards "great them"
The best way to deal with intruders is to go on Red alert. Your non security people will attack them instead of just standing there and getting shot
This would be a cool series! You should make it a series!

this is a great series idea and a great game.
Wow, that pop-up just as Pravus was ending the video. LOL
Very cool! I think I like this one better than Dawn of Man!
Omg pravus is finally playing this! I hoped he would with how much he enjoyed Dawn of Man
This is amazing i literally just got back into this game last week
Pls make this a series I’m begging u
Thank you Lord Pravus,
very cool!

Pravus, I recommend playing surviving mars and also a game called Ancient Cities when it comes out because its basically Dawn of Man but upgraded!
the hardest part of this game is realizing 50% of your colonist need to be biologist.
Aven Colony could be something for you

there might be some imposters among us in this base...
