Crazy how much this got changed during the time of the beta! The price reduction for harpoon gun and the increased crit damage for precise weapons were not implemented in the beginning, but you would get a bunch of free melee damage. I won my run with 6 Cacti club, which was loads of fun
Yea I get the feeling that the devs originally intended the harpoon gun/precise weapon playstyle and that cacti club was perhaps an oversight (or they didn’t realize HOW strong it’d be). Glad they changed it without inadvertently making the character bad, because honestly playing him in his original form without cacti club didn’t feel very good
Yeah, this character had the most significant rework! I think the devs really wanted you to actually use harpoon guns for him, which the old style didn't really encourage. That said I think smg or shotgun probably fills the harpoon gun debuff role better in this implementation, so they may need to tweak again :P
12:55 i think it's not that harpoon targets the farthest enemy but it just has a minimum range, so it can't shoot the enemies that are next to you. I think it's because of its negative kickback, to prevent it from killing you by pulling enemies on top of you
Dex had an amazing run using Cacti club. Seems like the perfect weapon for diver. Sends ranged attacks and is a melee weapon... would love to see your take on it!
I think XP gain is useful up to a point. For example, buying 5 Scars (+20% XP, -8 range) at level 11 gets you at some point to level 17 instead of 15, but effectively costs 40 range and 5 items' worth of money for 2 levels. Later, it could take you from level 20 to 24. This might be good for endless runs, but in shorter runs, focusing on economy might bring more benefits. I think XP gain is decent up to 100%, but after that, other items are more valuable.
I think it also depends on what else you have going on. high luck for better levels, the creature item for bonus 35% level up stats, and having bonus enemies or good harvesting all make that bonus xp go much farther
Bone dice mathematically equals to exchange 1 hp for 5% damage. So, if buying the injection is worthy, then it is supposed to be good for the dice. Maybe gathering enough stats can make it more clear about whether it's worhy or not.
Yeah - the stats are better than injection (a lot better if you get it early), but the issue I have with it is you pay upfront for value you don't get until much later, at a rate that's not that much better than a lot of items that give you their value right away, and with the chance of getting unlucky and getting nothing for several waves.
Weapon Damage **Type** and weapon Damge **scaling** a two different things. The shuriken for example is of **type** ranged (therefore procs the debuff) and **scales** with melee (therefore isnt affected by the ranged debuff). Damage scaling of baby with beard is ranged as indicated by the tooltip. Type is unmentioned.
One-armed, Cyborg, Engineer. also, Lucky, Arms Dealer, Baby. Also Triple Technomage for all the turrets and elemental damage, but none of the levels. If any of these strike your fancy that is.
Wish you did endless run to see how long you could last. I lasted to wave 38 today with a different character and it was intense. How long was your longest endless run ?
Didn't rng into a baby, so i picked a lvl 1 smg.... steamrolled. By wave 30 the 2dmg smg (1+1 from nail) was dealing more damage than the daggers. Died to a random lag spike into multiple projectiles. Felt pretty much invulnerable from wave 18.
It shouldn't! As far as I know only things that scale with ranged damage will work (so not engineering constructs, or even ranged weapons like the shuriken that scale off of melee damage)
Youre reasoning about tardigrade is wrong. Tardigrade procs **after** dodge. It is therefore rather a guaranteed dodge (without proccing dodge) on your first **unsuccesful dodge** rather than your first hit. Just a little bit of Tooltip Trickery.
Im glad that people are having such an easy time with this character. I cant seem to get enough defensive stats to get by elites. Also i get no access to cactus club. I also rarely find armor items or stats. I guess its different for xbox or something. I get on here and see how everyone is having such an easy time. But im dead 100% of the time and im having a real tough time. And you content creators keep calling things broken.... this makes them want to make the game harder....so the people that are struggling get the new update and now they have 1% chance to win. Ugh
I struggled for ages with Diver until I watched this, Thanks a bunch for yet another informative and fun video.

same, 6 cacti clubs plus sausage and other things and i barely had to do anything

@Cephalopocalypse wouldn't slingshot be good too? Or is the bouncing too random?
@@gamescape7758 slingshot would probably be okay but yeah, the random bounces would make it worse than smg
2 slingshots and 4 thiefs daggers go crazy with this character. Especially if you stack baby with a beard and piercing

Great commentary, I enjoyed the video a lot! :)
Thanks very much!
Taking weird ghost on final wave was a gigachad move. 😸
I chuckle every time I see a fireball in your shops
same

That was probably with the old version of the character! cacti club isn't precise, so it's a fine choice but not broken like it used to be.
Wow those shops were quite kind to you, it seems like piercing, baby and ricochet are the mvps of this build

I just sold the harpoon for an smg and rolled into piercing so everything was debuffed. Better than the harpoon imo
The harpoon gun has a minimum range, it can't target enemies close to you.
Good point!
yoooo patrick unlocked

@@Cephalopocalypse that is true. Maybe it's more like a "win more" item rather than a "win now" item.

Slingshot seems like it would be the play for this tater, as opposed to holding onto the Harpoon.
When I did my run with it, I said "what would Ceph pick? Thief dagger? Thief dagger"
This was loads of fun. I cannot wait for the dlc to drop
Retro did Cacti Club
always thief dagger
One-armed, Cyborg, Engineer. also, Lucky, Arms Dealer, Baby. Also Triple Technomage for all the turrets and elemental damage, but none of the levels.

Crazy endless run soon?
Will the dlc come out on console in October too?

What's that thing it unlocks?
Does the Crystal bonus just reset after getting hit or do you lose it for the rest of the round?
if you have some piercing and see a cactus club, you should take it, its just silly how absurd it is
Would the incendiary turret be able to proc the passive of the diver?
It shouldn't! As far as I know only things that scale with ranged damage will work (so not engineering constructs, or even ranged weapons like the shuriken that scale off of melee damage)
🔥🔥🔥
I feel like the Tardigrade would be better if it saved you from one fatal hit rather than the first hit you take.
Why wouldnt the shuriken proc the buff? it says ranged damage, the shuriken is ranged dmg no?
shuriken is a ranged weapon, but it scales off of melee damage - the diver buff requires items that scale off of ranged damage to proc
17:41 You can do this very easily. Just buy an SMG instead of one of the harpoon guns.
Youre reasoning about tardigrade is wrong. Tardigrade procs **after** dodge. It is therefore rather a guaranteed dodge (without proccing dodge) on your first **unsuccesful dodge** rather than your first hit. Just a little bit of Tooltip Trickery.
Yessssssssss
I sold harpoon and bought 2 shurikens. It said they did almost 1mln dmg each. Must have procced.
