I feel like this one is a good scale for what you like in a horror film as it kinda has an even spread of genre. From sounds of your preferences (Woods film/haunted house) if you've never seen [REC] I highly RECommend it (lame joke I know but I had too)
V/H/S 2 is definitely worth the watch..... Past that one it's a bit hit and miss, but I'd absolutely recommend the sequel. This is horror done at it's best and most creative..... On a shoestring budget.😏👍
Also, as others have mentioned, the first short in this anthology did get a full film later called SIREN (2016).

I was so excited to see this! It means I get to watch with you. Also, the sequel is, in some regards, better than the original. I just watched it last month.
The sequel is definitely a more than worthy follow-up!

Who knew in 2012 that these directors were going to make Scream 5 & 6, X, Pearl, Godzilla v Kong, The Ritual, Hellraiser & The Guest!
The Ritual and the Guest are absolutely underrated gems. Loved them both

@@northwind2538 X and Pearl are pretty good for campy horrors. That last monologue in Pearl sold it as a great film for me
So the cool thing about this series is they brought in a bunch of professional and amateur horror writers and they give them each block to create whatever they want,
The makeup on the forehead in the first short is so perfectly done, like it’s just gradual enough that she passes for a person initially but right when they get to the motel you’re like “what is happening”

The section in the woods is titled "Tuesday the 17th" cause that would be the date of a Tuesday that comes after Friday the 13th. After the glitchy man killed her, her body convulsed and started glitching to imply that she would be just like him afterwards.

The a-holes from the beginning of the movie are in the house watching VHS tapes of other people. That's not them in the first story with the succubus woman. It's an anthology series. (Not to say the guys in that hotel room weren't a-holes)

Fun fact, the Siren girl in the first story got her own spin-off movie called "Siren" that isn't found footage but filmed like a regular conventional feature film.

@@phoenixxam5812 same. Cause of the wings. Sirens generally aren’t known for flight but then again some lore calls Harpies, Sirens. Even tho this girl looks nothing like a half bird half woman avian hybrid but it could be a unique contemporary portrayal for the film. But since she’s in another film portraying the same creature and it’s called Siren then I’m guessing that’s what the director intended for her to be? 🤷♂️

No they changed it. Shes a succubus 100% here. Siren is a completely different lore. She has no Siren features. She doesnt speak. Sirens sing.

the first two are the best but if you're a dog lover something at the end might trigger you. the only one in part 3 I liked were the skateboarderrs that go to Mexico.

Other fantastic found footage horror would be REC (2007), Poughkeepsie Tapes, Cannibal Holocaust, and the extremely underrated Lake Mungo (2008). Lake Mungo is super underrated and overlooked. VHS 2 and VHS 1999 are also very good.
Lake Mungo actually scared the crap out of me.
REC is amazing and definitely worth watching

So this is in my top 3 horror movie franchise. For a little more context basically all the movies focus around the idea that there is a black market where people trade supernatural snuff films. It's a really cool idea IMO.
I would love more films like VHS. Not VHS specifically, but I love the idea of giving a bunch of movie writers the chance to do these small films. Sometimes some cool concepts like the ones here won't work stretched out to full length movie times but it still gives an outlet for the ideas.

V/H/S/2 (2013) is also good. However, if you really want to be creeped out, go with Lake Mungo (2008).
There's an alternate ending to the final segment that they shot as a joke where they get out of the car at the last moment and, despite everything that just happened, laugh and talk about what a crazy and awesome night it's been and just playfully discuss how they're gonna get back home

@@ssicamon1927 The 4th is on Shudder. It holds up pretty well, but does have a few moments where the characters do extremely stupid stuff. Overall, it was still really good.
I agree! I would love to see a 5th where they keep going into the origins of the cult, clowns, etc.

I was born in 2002, and I still know the joys of VCRs and VHS tapes! 😂 Gen Z knows about that stuff if they were poor. We also had one of those 5 foot tall box TVs in the living room, and I had a CRT TV in my room.
V/H/S is my favorite horror franchise. Some stories could be silly, but when they hit, they HIT.. What makes it more terrifying is the way they use "real footage" dynamic to make it feel real, that's why i love it so much. If it was recorded normally like any other movie, it wouldn't work.
The "cool effect" one with the glitchy killer reminds me of Predator. Keep going with this anthology series, you two. There's an alien sequence one in an upcoming one that really creeps me out! 👽
So glad you guys finally reacted to this film. They are my absolute favorite. I can only describe them as if you are watching literal nightmares. Its amazing how they were able to capture it. The second one is just as good!

Stumbled on this movie late night when I was younger while watching cable and it scared the ever-living shit out of me. It was so unexpected, but I love this anthology style of horror. Reminds me a bit of Trick 'r Treat, which is also one of my favorite horror movies.
Been a while Nikki and Steve...for some reason RUclips didn't have me subbed to you guys but it is Adambomb from Twitch. I am so glad yall got to see this wild anthology. This was a real journey when I watched it. Awesome reaction as usual and love and miss you guys!!!
I hope u guys react to "Orphan" (2009), its one of my favorite modern horror movies its really well done w great acting too. Vera Farmiga is in it too !

The 1st segment with the girl is the ONLY movie scene that is terrifying. Her eyes and her teeth and whispers. Its horrible.
Its my favorite one. The woman that plays the Succubus KILLED it.
I like found footage films. When they're done right they're more realistic and creepy.

Back when I moved in with one of my best friends, he put me on to this V/H/S series. I was already into "found footage" movies like Cloverfield, Paranormal Activity, etc, so I could appreciate these shorts. I also recommend The ABC's of Death. I was watching that one with another buddy of mine and his girlfriend. The girlfriend started crying. lol

I remember watch this on tv for first time and I thought it was documentary at first, but damn. It creep the hell out of me.
The first V/H/S is one of the most underrated horror films ever made! V/H/S 2 is also worth checking out! But the first video tape with the demon/vampire/alien creature girl was definitely the most terrifying one! It literally scared the piss out of me, brutal, disturbing and utterly fascinating at all the same time! I wish we got more expansion on that story and who she really was.

Portmanteau films were really popular in British horror, especially in the 70’s. Four or five stories within a film is great fun.

Way back in the day... its kinda reminiscent of Faces of death. That was the thing back in my day. Some were obviously fake. But some were real.

One of the few horror series' that get better and better. VHS/99 from 2022 is awesome. Hell House LLC is another great low budget found footage horror movie series I highly recommend. That was fun. Thanks!
This is not great. V/H/S/ 2 is a MASTERCLASS featuring Eduardo Sanchez (Blair Witch) directing a wild original zombie short and Gareth "The Raid" Evans doing an absolutely BONKERS short horror.
You should do Evan's Gangs of London too (and his film Apostle is wild as well).
I got a few old school vibes from this. An early James woods i think called Videodrome, 30 or 31 Miles from nowhere, and a few others
Both this and the second one have at least one sequence that got full length spinoffs (the sequence involving the monster girl got a movie called “Siren” which stars the same woman reprising her role) and there’s one in the second one that got a movie called “Kids vs. Aliens”.
Cool Reaction! V/H/S is probably the best of the current anthology horror film series. The second one is better, not as long but the stories are stronger.

I've wanted you guys to watch this for YEARS and I was not disappointed. If you guys do decide to watch VHS 2, fair warning, there is a rough scene to get through involving a dog. The dog dad in me almost couldn't get through it but it's not as bad as John Wick dog thankfully.

I just watched this for the first time, just so I could enjoy your reaction to it after and I was definitely creeped out at several parts, got chills at the same parts as Steven. However, when it ended, I was like "that's it?" Overall, I liked this movie and got a lot of enjoyment from your reaction.

You've gotta watch VHS2. Every segment packs a wallop.
The first 3 VHS movies are connected but after that all the rest are just randomized crap with a few gems in between. the first two were setting up something with the vhs tapes giving us some background as to what might be going on. that tapes are supposed to be cursed and there's supposed to be a way to watch them, but all that was abandoned with 3 because by that point they jumped on the whole viral video craze. you need to check out part 2 at least. by the way this movie spawned a full length movie on the succubus called Siren. In the 2nd movie, the short Safe Haven is the best and for a while there were plans to do a full feature on that one as well. but nothing ever happened. The final story in the haunted house originally ended with the guys escaping from the car but they chose to end it with their demise.
