    I've seen people hate on the ending to this movie, but I love it so much. The fact that it's real adds SO MUCH DEPTH to Howard as a character, and the fact that she is able to win and survive because of everything she'd been through, is able to finally run toward the danger instead of away. So good!

      @donaldseale2700 7 месяцев назад +9

      I liked the ending, with the exception of the Molotov. If their ship can be taken down by a single Molotov, there's no way the aliens would've caused as much damage as they had. At the very least, Earths military would've had them completely exterminated by the time she left the bunker.

    • @Don-fw3nv
      @Don-fw3nv 7 месяцев назад

      @@donaldseale2700 Yeah I disagree. In the movie, we see that they've taken back some checkpoints from the aliens, but to think the military wouldve been able to completely fend off a surprise attack that, at least according to John Goodman's crazy character, likely targetted hotspots of people, is asinine. I also doubt green flammable gas is their only weapon. Remember that they started off the attack with some sort of massive explosion. One thing to note, is that the alien chasing the girl seems to be somewhat primitive. One can infer that its a type of scout that they set on population centers.

    • @SpicyClover
      @SpicyClover 7 месяцев назад +9

      @@donaldseale2700 Good point, but maybe there's different types of ships for specific objectives. The one we seen might've been one of their weakest. That's just my theory though.

    Fun Fact: when she goes up to fix the air filtration system, her hand falls onto a letter to howard from "Bold Fortuna", which is a contractor for hire company owned by Tagruato industries. I dunno how much of the cloverfield backstory you know*, but Tagruato (the company the main guy in cloverfield was leaving to work for in the beginning) is the japanese telecommunications company (who puts satellites into orbit) that was responsible for Clovie attacking New York. So if Tagruato in this reality is anything like the one from Cloverfield, chances are everything he said, was likely true.
    (*short version: they were mining the seafloor for a sweet, addictive organic substance for use in their Slusho soft drinks. they find there is a deposit off the coast of the US, and in order to get permission to mine it, they crash a satellite into the ocean (seen in the coney island footage near the end of the film), call it an accident, ask to retrieve it, the US gov says ok, they do and while down there find the deposit, then say, "look what we found, can we mine it?" and get permission. they start mining, but since those small creatures you see in cloverfield eat the stuff too, they start starving (and probably jonesing since its addictive) and start attacking the nearest food source. which just so happens to be Clovie, a baby, who is hibernating nearby. imagine waking up covered in red ants. so ofcourse it goes nuts. its why you see it scraping itself on buildings early on.)
    (yes, that is the short version. lol the ARG marketing for the film was quite extensive and detailed)

    This is my absolute favorite movie! I love the way that all of Michelle’s skills and the tools she uses are explained - you see the doomsday prep book early in the movie, the alcohol in the car is mentioned early on, etc. Nothing comes out of nowhere!
    It’s also a solid allegory for the cycle of domestic violence and how victims can end up right back into abusive situations if they don’t have access to the help they need. I also really loved that she stopped running at the end. She said that was her biggest regret, and then when the opportunity came along she decided to stop running and actually help. ❤

    “What kind of doomsday expert doesn’t have a gas mask?”
    Excellent observation, love this movie but damn that’s a fact right there, he’d have an entire hazmat suit probably, multiples, what if he has to go outside etc, someone like this would definitely have said equipment, just a small whoopsie on the writers part, they could have shown he did have such equipment but kept it locked away making her still have to make one.

    • @themourningstar338
      @themourningstar338 7 месяцев назад +16

      This is what I'd assumed too, and it makes sense. He's an extreme doomsday prepper with a fully kitted out bunker, so of course he would have hazmat suits and gas masks. But he's also a weirdo kidnapper creep, so those would be stashed away somewhere under lock and key to prevent Michelle's escape. But yeah, a short scene showing that would have been a nice little added detail to tie it all together.

    • @Replect

    Crazy thing is, from John Goodman's character's view, he did nothing wrong.
    He prepared, saved two people. The one guy admits he wanted to hurt him to take his gun to make the girl respect him. He killed him in self defense. He then was attacked by her and used the knife to try to prevent her from contaminating the bunker, in self defense.
    As far as the girl who disappeared, it's suspicious, and looks really bad, but so did the entire situation of him locking them in the bunker. And as the movie teaches, you can't believe what you think to be as obvious

I just wanted them continue the monster theme from the first one. 😅 This Howard guy worked for the Tagruato Corporation on one of their drilling platforms, which have a connection to the monster in the original movie. The viral marketing they did for the original movie was EPIC, and some of it continued for all the other movies. I think I remember some sort of scavenger hunt that was tied to this movie.

The last movie to keep me guessing that much was The Game in 1997. I know that a lot of people hate the ending but I think that's just because of the major tonal shift. @@lilscenechick1995 If you want an honest answer, a big part of it was why the CGI was there to begin with. They had practical effects and makeup ready that by all accounts looked great, but the director scrapped those scenes and wanted all of them redone for the worst possible reason: they only looked good from one angle. That's terrible because it's a movie, the audience only sees it from one angle, so it doesn't matter what the back side of any effect looks like.
      Hence the mediocre CGI that made some scenes gooier than they should have been and a lot of pissed off staff pointing fingers on its release.

    You know what, I remember loving this movie as a like low stakes, take a flyer on a Red Box dvd type, but this has totally reminded how low key brilliant it really is!!! The intensity is master class, and of course, Mr. Goodman with an UNREAL acting performance 😳👊🏻bravoooooooo Sir!!

    I love how these movies are connected how they explained stuff and there's other movies that aren't these movies technically but still could be similar story like the mist or even overlord just cause there's not a overt connection don't mean they're not connected still lol

    This actually has nothing to do with Cloverfield, there's only 1 Cloverfield film. This and the Cloverfield Paradox are 2 films that were "low budget" indie scripts and "Cloverfied" bought them to try and make a universe, that's why this and Paradox seem to randomly add monsters at the end for absolutely no reason :)

      The ending is essential to the message of the movie, Michelle's arc. He was trying to convince her that she couldn't survive without him. She learned that she's perfectly capable of handling herself, even if it IS the end of the world. She didn't need that wackjob.

    20:55 "All you have to do is, stitch"
    Steven: 😳😶‍🌫
    Nikki: Uh huh, nope! Thankyou so much, I gotta go.... I'd rather go back out there...
    I know ya'll are joking and not taking it literally, but why is this so shocking or ya'll so grossed out? He asked for 3 stitches to his head, a injury she inflicted on him, its not like he is asking for her to give him a vasectomy, its still scary and gross, but not like they can drive to the hospital. If someone split your forehead open, you'd expect the same 😂

    “I bet the military got wiped out yet she managed to take one down with a molotov.” To be fair, a bunch of farmers with hand-me-down WW2 gear fought the US Military to a stalemate and we haven’t really “won” a war since, we basically just play wars of attrition until the conflict becomes unsustainably unpopular, than declare the war’s over and leave.

    I always loved the rpg they do before the movie comes out hints at the plot introduced you to Howard and how he saw something at that company he worked at satellite images of the aliens so he's like uh oh better start building the bunker lol Emmet helped so when flashes happened he forced his way in Howard had to let him in while he was bringing her in there

    John Goodman ' s Character and the other dude ' s Character remind me of two actual Serial Killers from LA in the 1980s named Leonard Lake and Charles Ing where they built a doomsday bunker kidnapped women and killed them their Motive behind why they did what they did was because when the World ends they wanted too repopulate the World .
