- The Cloverfield monster known as Clover, or Clovie, is one that is actually an infant if you can believe it. This creatures towers withe skyscrapers it destroys as it picks up people running underfoot and eats them. Theres alot of confusion about where it originated and what are the parasites that drop off and attack people. Well lets break down the lore and biology of this creature and discuss where it comes from, and how large it can actually get!

This is kind of a weird compliment to be giving a movie, but the reaction of those crowds looks super realistic, like buildings are actually exploding and stuff. The time at which they start running, the patterns they run in. On point. 👌
Yeah. Its like those scenes in horror movies where they dont tell the actors in order to get their real reactions.
It is very relistic if this could/did halpen
buildings are very unlikely to explode unless there certain types of buildings, and also regardless of how big a creature is, a tank round isnt just going to piss it off, its going to take out a chunk, and if its durable enough to not get penetrated, then that whole part of the body would shatter because its too hard, samuel colt made all humans equal, abrams made all life equal
I think this movie and Bird Box got that initial panic perfect, it's not too believable in most films
@@stormjin2242 The funny thing is, the concept of kaiju having weird side effects from being blasted apart is as old as kaiju movies themselves, with The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms having a pathogen in its blood that makes it tricky to kill without also spraying an area with a sickness.
It would've been kinda neat if there was a movie where the kaiju dies in the first or second act, but the parasites living on it end up causing long-term problems. 🤔
me and my dad figured the parasites had a blood thinner in their saliva to increase blood flow to the bite wounds, but since its a human and not a giant monster, blood pressure is increased to the point of people popping like pimples
It makes sense, that would explain the sudden dizziness and the whole exploding, you tend to get dizzy when you go deeper underwater and then that pressure is so great that it results in an explosion.
Should have used alcohol
One thing I find really.. confusing (to say the least) is that Saliva in sea creatures especially insects, when they bite you and inject this saliva, they are extremely painful depending on how much saliva was injected so considering that the girl that got bit from the creature that INJECTED SALIVA shouldn’t be in extreme pain, but in pain so great that should leave her crying IN PAIN on the ground? Or even kill her of how great the pain is unless she can endure the pain then yeah she’ll live but I still think she would be crying in pain on the ground , even I as a man I genuinely don’t know if I could endure such pain like I experienced saliva injection pain but only a small amount a microscopic amount, but the amount that those small creatures in the movie injected is not something I consider endurable as far as I know.
I mean.. if I saw this in a movie that is supposed to be realistic (not Cloverfield)…. let’s just say I wouldn’t be surprised.
@@AdhvaithSaneAssuming she's not screaming in pain from the giant puncture wounds alone the saliva probably has a pretty hefty dose of pain killers in it, so she would feel way less pain than she should have

Fair enough, the big monster in Cloverfield is an ugly bugger, but at least you'd know he was coming. As for the parasites, they are one of the creepiest, nastiest ideas anyone has dreamt up in a long time. It's interesting to speculate if the huge monster in Paradox also dropped larger versions of them. Another excuse not to go swimming (I'm still suffering from the trauma of Jaws).

@@JacksGameReviews it's called "inspiration."
If you give it a good think, Cloverfield is way different from Godzilla, instead of focusing on being Epic, it focuses on Horror, surprisingly. (You don't get much Kaiju horror now and days!)
@@JacksGameReviews JJ literally said he wanted to make America's Godzilla. It's not even close to stealing or reinventing Godzilla, though, as not only are the origins TOTALLY different, but so are the messages.
@@reptilerandykrusha6426 Gojira itself has its share of almost horror movies, see the original 1954 film and Shin Gojira for a good example, it has a lot of action focused movies but in its origin is pretty much about the terror of nuclear danger.
As far JJ, yeah it was not stealing, he literaly saw the first Gojira movie and tought would be cool to create a american equivalent to it, a monster to represent a national tragedy, Gojira is about the nuclear bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki (the director and producer of the first movie saw first hand the bombing), Cloverfield is kinda a 9/11 alegoric despite being a lot less thematic than Gojira.
@@CoracaoAcidental98 I guess so, but Clover is 100% horror, Gojira is more action and sci-fi if you ask me.
And yes, I knew about the fact that Clover is based off 9/11 much like how Gojira is based off nuclear use.
I love the way the film makers take inspiration from said tragedies for their monsters, adds a sense of deep meaning to them.
Regarding the issue with such a gigantic creature walking on land, this monster is also a deep-sea monster. The difference in pressure alone would kill it. The famous ''Blobfish'' pictures that were popular memes back in the day are actually examples of what happens to deep-sea creatures when they are brought into surface level.
I think Clover may actually have an exoskeleton of sorts, which would help with deep-sea pressures and also pressure on land. However, I don't like arguing physics when it comes to monsters this size since we literally have no idea what their skeletal structure, let alone the composition, is.
All of those deep sea creatures that die being brought up to the surface are soft-bodied, whales are rigid but definitely not structured to survive either.
@@hellcatdave1 my problem has a water breathing deep sea animal instantly adjusting to sea level and breathing air.

Huh, honestly I never thought Clover was designed to look like an aquatic beast, much less a quadrupedal angler fish. I always thought its face was bat-like. A bat with an underbite, but a bat nonetheless. The fleshy protrusions behind its eyes, to either side of the face looked like bat ears to me, and the long spindly front legs even looked akin to how bats walk on their wing-fingers when not flying.
I can see angler fish resemblance in its jaws. The segmented tooth looking lower jaw definitely signifies anglerfish to me

I mean this is us assuming the Army used AP ammo on Clover at all. We can clearly see they are firing an M109 (in the street scene it's actually a British Abbot being a stand in, later in the film an actual M109 gets stepped on) which was most likely loaded with fragmentation or HE rounds. Again, expecting small arms to do much to a creature this size is unreasonable, however if the military assumed HE would be sufficient, it's entirely possible that they all left base loaded up with primarily HE rounds. Not to mention, even with APFSDS we have no idea what the physiology of this creature really is. For all we know, and for suspension of disbelief, it is entirely possible that most shots either miss Clover entirely (due to the frantic nature of a giant creature shaking the ground and moving exceptionally fast) or hit a non-vital area on it.

Don't forget these little dog sized creatures are able to apparently bite into it and cause enough damage to feed off of.
Except they did. They used Bunker Busters to finally take it down. Regular ordinance is not designed to penatrate and thats what they were using until the very last strike which finially killed it. Using nukes would have made the Island uninhabitable, and regular ordinance was having no effect, so they resorted to Bunker Busters. Did you even listen to the video? Edit: My comment aged like fine wine, thank you everyone for tunning in.
*Clover plains monster
*sends 682 to fight it just for kicks*
@@harrisyabro3931 well 682 would obviously win
Therussianman yeah that’s true. Scp 682 has to be one of the strongest characters in fiction
RumGuru yeah but even without the immortality, he is still super op. Put him against any other fictional charter and he will most likely win
I was totally unaware this was based on a manga, that's awesome. I've been watching your vids and you've filled in so many gaps of knowledge on these movies that I've loved for years. Thank you for all your hard work on these
Seriously hilarious. Awesome way to make the announcement
I'll be honest, I didn't notice some of the dialog or visual cues in this movie.
I remember on a whim looking at the special features and when I heard the makers say that clover was a baby...SCARED me.
For the people who never put 2 and 2 together, Clovey the original monster is not the same one from paradox as Clovey is much smaller.
Clovey is such a cuter nickname than the actual name Clover 🤣 love that.
You're great to listen to in the back ground while I play total war. Thank you.
"One of the most annoying couples I've ever seen in my life"
I actually couldn't stand any of the main characters in this movie. Every time one of them got killed, I was like, "HA!"
Same here.
wow really I felt that were all so real. maybe thats why you hated them? because their exactly like how regular people act.
@@texasallstar6969 That may be. Good point.
Rob and Hud are the mosssstttt annoying
I liked Hud and Marlena.
I didn't know sea lice existed. You have once again scarred me for life
Welcome to the club
I love your “when I was young…” segments cause I always had similar thoughts lol
I always assumed that I was just imagining those bites so thanks for that horrifying knowledge.
Man I love when the military comes and tries to help as much as they can
They Protect us and yeah i feel bad for them
Aye i liked the change up from the normal "try and weaponise it" dumbass general trope
@@queek5389 *ahem* ReSiDent Evil...
@@queek5389 That or the military is portrayed as complete idiots
Agreed , the reason why they take much time to kill that thing , is because saving people , they can't just bombard the monster while there is people nearby
"When tested on humans, it turned out to be edible."
...Okay, which friggin' grad student got handed something they dug up from under the sea floor and told to take a bite?
Kinda like how people discovered cow milk.
Also the sea bed nectar is the liquid from inside the creature's egg, so maybe in-universe this was seen as medicine and maybe Tagruato (Slusho's parent company) knows more than J.J and us
We have to figure out how to find out if something is edible somehow
I reckon the monster and its parasites came from an alternative world (earth or other) when the events of the cloverfield paradox occurred. The paradox event likely phased the monster from it's deep ocean into our (movie) world's ocean, and then remained hidden for a long time before being discovered and disturbed, leading to the first movie. The monster might even be from a time that is ancient or far into the future, but brought to the present time of the movie when phased between dimensions. The adult seen in the paradox movie could have a similar story, but local to that version of earth. Hopefully the 4th cloverfield movie will shed some more light. It's very exciting stuff.
it's like the movie predator, it comes here to feed or is seeded here to get accustomed and then feed, stuff is talked about like this in the bible; beasts arising out of the oceans.
There's a fourth Cloverfield movie?!
Isn't clover 4 going to be set in world war 2?
Don't over complicate it.
Awesome video man! Love it when people go in depth with these movies! I want ALL the information!!
Also, his name was HUD not JUD lol
I hate how terrifyingly adorable Clovie is. And then finding out it was just a baby with separation anxiety made me so freakin’ sad like why would you do this to me
When you think about the parallels between Godzilla post WW2 and Cloverfield with 9/11 it sounds like a real deep thought that I lack the inteligence and patience to fully expound on in a RUclips comment section.
understandable haha
Well, just hope someone smarter can get a point out of that thought.
Giant monsters are walking disasters and metaphors for real events
@j and the first Godzilla film came out in 1952, coincidentally 7 years after Japan got nuked.
also movies take a long time to make my man. Writing, pre-production, filming all that jazz. I don't super know why you think 7 years is long enough that major events dont effect the artists involved but believe me, a lot of Americans were still thinking about 9/11 less than a decade later
@j and the first Godzilla film came out 9 years after the Hiroshima bomb event, what's your point?
Great video!!!
I loved the Cloverfield movie. It was so good. Scary. Comedy. Stressful and immersive. I hope one day they make a second one
They have LMAO AND A THIRD CLOVERVIELD LANE AND CLOVERFEILD PARADOX
@@firemonkey9689 They mean a proper sequel that takes place in the same universe with the monster being the main focus of the movie.
Yes. A sequel to this got announced! Not in foundfootage style
@@carloshuicochea9816 I liked the found footage style
ME TOO IT WAS SO GOOD
"When the monster jumped it bit the blades of the helicopter YEETING it to the ground"

Dude I love videos like this why did it take me so long to find this
Just found my new favorite movie/gaming channel
I wish we'd gotten a proper sequel to Cloverfield. I'd love to have seen a more 'realistic' portrayal of a giant monster apocalypse. Godzilla is fun but him becoming a superhero that just fights other monsters to protect the world never feels real. A giant monster like this stomping around would be apocalyptic. Especially if there were more than one. They could have made a good series of films showing different groups of people trying to survive a world where this thing exists and has brought down society.
I love Godzilla movies, but he is definitely over powered to an absolutely absurd degree.
But J.J had to become a hack, or maybe he was always one
It kinda depends on which Godzilla movie and series you watch. Some versions of Godzilla tried to destroy cities just because and had to be killed by the military. Plus, giant monsters fighting each other isn't too out of the ordinary especially when we look at normal animals who fight each other for territory or mates.
Have you watched Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters? That might be more down your alley, though not exactly what you're describing. In any case maybe you'll like it :)
@@baronvonfaust I'll give it a go thanks
Best explanation for the explosive bite of the Clover parasites I've ever heard. That makes way more sense than a reproductive chestburster situation like most people theorized in the past.
Realism aside, I love this movie, which is an odd statement considering I've only seen it once. I can't stomach the "we got a bite" scene, gets me all pukey. Honestly, the parasites in general, from their appearance to their abilities gets me super nauseated.
Within the world of realism though, the army dudes had M2 Abrams (American Tanks), which are known for turning operators of other tanks, effectively bunkers with wheels, into a fine red paste, so this creature definitely would've gotten its shit rocked much faster
Really enjoyed this video. I love the movie and now I have a new appreciation of it.
4:16 I remember the bridge and tails being the scariest part for me, I think it was the thought of the dude being crushed instantly, he evens looks up for a sec.
Thank you for your videos man, I got a test about evolution and I got perfect scores because of your frequent mentions of concepts regarding Darwinism.
absolutely man! good luck!
I thought only Young Earth Creationists called the Darwinian/Mendelian synthesis of Evolution "Darwinism"?
Ok good video looking forward to more
