I bought it and love it. Granted, the turbo duration is not super long but I value the size more and it is nice to have access to turbo and strobe on one button plus a mechanical lockout. Thanks for the thorough review!

I’m digging it. For someone who doesn’t use turbo much I’m all for the smaller form factor. Thanks for the thorough review as always.

Best review I've seen on this light. I totally agree with all the likes and dislikes. The IP rating is unacceptable for a light that sticks out of your pocket a full inch. Haha. The pocket clip is legit the worst in the game. They need to offer a deep carry option for the pocket clip. Cloud Defensive didn't have the deep carry available when I bought my EDC MCH, but they sent them to anyone who could show proof of purchase for $2 to cover the shipping. Nitecore should for sure do that.

I would have liked to see a deep carry pocket clip and an in between setting of 600 lumens. Everything else is PERFECT. But it’s literally called an edc in the name, it’s not meant for extended use and battery swapping. If you need that, get a bigger light like the nitecore p23i. There is never a tool that can do everything. You use the right tool for the right job.
For those that have it, what do you think of the size compared to the edc29?

I really want these lights but no submersible rating is wild. How many times have you gotten your flashlight dirty and ran it under water to wash it off ? I do, all the time with my p20ix.
Also yes, nitecore should implement replaceable batteries, even if they’re an odd shape, like they do for some of their headlamps

If you don't need the 8 second 2500 lumens, definitely get the MT1A pro instead. Much smaller, replaceable battery, and can run on AAs. Trust me, I've had hundreds of flashlights, and it's awesome. Only 800 lumens, but it seems like way more somehow, plus it's tiny.

Black Friday sales started so I grabbed the Rovyvon E90. I really appreciate the side lights and UV. I'll see how long the 3,500lm can go. The high is sustained 1,000lm so we'll see if it is better than the E80 you reviewed. Arrives tomorrow.

@@ChrispyThings Ah, I remembered it was one of them! I guess E80 was in my brain because it is their new UV/green laser Arkfeld competitor one. You didn't like the E30 very much overall right? You thought it was a bit confused what it was trying to be. Totally understand your POV.

@@sloanNYC yes exactly! It was the E30 pro to be exact.

Personally, I care more about how low of a lumen output a flashlight has versus how bright of a lumen output it has. A modern edc flashlight should have a standard moonlight mode of 0.5 lumens👍 A 0.5 lumen output level allows you to look in dark places like in your car or at an electrical panel during a blackout without your eyes have to adjust to the light or have any light annoyingly reflect back into your eyes making it difficult for you to see. I typically don't use a lumen level over 500, but it's nice to have at least a 1000 lumen high or turbo mode. This Nitecore EDC23 has an "ultra-low" lumen output of 15 lumens which in my opinion is way too bright for an "ultra-low" or moon light mode🤨 Therefore this Nitecore EDC23 is a no go for me👍

Edc29 is heavy.. edc23 is the best for me as a daily carry.. 🎉

I think they reserved the term LuminShield for the ones with additional smaller leds. (Which they'll probably release as edc24 soon 😆)

Great review, man, my thoughts exactly! It’s a cool, smallish tactical flashlight but not meeting all the right criteria for the asking price.. I wish nitecore give us, customers, the ability to set ourselves the lumens, for each of the modes, then i would buy more of their flashlights..

Does your turbo half press on the EDC23 feel the EXACT same as the EDC27 UHi? I have both, and my EDC23 half press turbo button feels very mushy, and even makes noise with all the play the button has. My EDC27 UHi turbo button is a nice solid click with no squish/play before activating.

    • @ChrispyThings
      @ChrispyThings  4 дня назад +2

Yes mine feels the same as the ESC27 uhi. It has a nice half stop. My EDC27 half stop was terrible. Very mushy.

Why the commentary around the built-in batteries on the 23/25/27/29? A Pouch cell is exactly the reason why these can have a flat design, which is what we like about them in the first place. You can't and should not swop out (at least us as consumers) pouch cells. I agree with your commentary on this topic related to the EDC33 and EDC35, but for the 23-29's, there is no other way. Like in other hobbies, such as airsoft, Pouch cells is also the the reason why in a very small form factor (same scenario as these lights) you can fit 11.1V and decent mAh in a very small space

Then make it slightly thicker. It’s not like these lights are razor thin to begin with. Use aaa or aa batteries, RovyVon did it with the E30 and is just about the same shape.
      There’s no excuse.

@@ChrispyThings I don't think it's as clear cut as that. The Nitcores are still thinner compared to the E30, which I also own and that is with the added benefit of the OLED, which the E30 lacks. They would be potentially then way thinner if OLED was done away with. Although the rip & replace benefit of the E30 (which I also own) is a great selling point, standard the E30 comes with 50% less mAh capacity (with the built in battery which is also the only means to access 2500 lumens) compared to the EDC27, so add 2 x 10440 Litiums and a charger to bring it up to par with Nitecore, and out the gate the E30 is way more expensive . The E30's replaceable batteries don't let you access 2500 lumens, but max 1000 lumens with 10880 and only 200lumens with AAA niMH. Run the EDC23/27 at 200 or 1000 lumens only and its runtime kills the E30's replaceable benefit (on top of always also having either to have spare NiMH's or one spare set 10440 and a charger,. which completely negates the concept of light, compact EDC).
