I get the 8 meme is seemingly never-ending but I do think its worth mentioning with just how much Denzel reinvents himself and his sound with every album, it's nothing short of impressive to make records that are this consistently good. There are only a handful of artists that come even close to getting this many highly rated scores from Fantano.

Yeah and his body of work is GOAT material. And people have the nerve to put lower caliber artists like J. Cole or Drake above Denzel. What a joke. The only rappers I would say are better are Kendrick and JID (maybe).
@@jesuspernia8031Denzel Curry is the most consistent artist I've ever come across. It's actually crazy. One of the most versatile as well, being able to switch up styles and flows, and even being able to hold himself back lyrically to fit the story he's trying to tell in an album or fit the vibe he's trying to fit. I don't think even Kendrick is this versatile, but Kendrick has higher highs and is still more skilled lyrically. But Denzel Curry became my favorite rapper for a reason. He can drop a new album and you can be certain you're in for something new and good.

Honestly ur right no one talks about but Denzel’s catalog clears Cole’s. Drakes a little different because his place in the so called “big 3” is strictly his numbers, and of course in terms of quality Denzel clears Drake as well.

Don’t forget that an 8 in Fantano’s eyes is often a consensus classic in it’s genre of that time. I think we forget that Fantano’s lens is just more critical than the average listener. 1 song that’s a dud or “meh” or underwhelming in comparison to the rest of the album can turn a strong 9/10 into an 8 for him, but that doesn’t discredit the rest of the album being a hallmark for its time. Denzel churning out constant 8’s is a legendary achievement. Some of the most influential and fondly remembered artists only ever peak at an 8 in Fantano’s eyes

I didn’t spoil the score before the video and the entire video I was convinced Denzel was finally going to get something higher than an 8 because of the energy of this review felt different I swear 😭

I don't know why, but I've really been agreeing more with Mr. Fantano since he went in on Rick Beato's reasoning for why music is getting worse. That being said I do believe Denzel is criminally underrated. And although I do think one of the last three Denzel joints should have at least received a 9, Fantano is nothing if not consistently inconsistent. What I'm saying is for artists that he rates high initially, anything above a 7, I believe he sets a bar for them which moves every time they score high again. It's taken a while, but I've grown to understand, and even appreciate, his music reviews. I mean thanks to him I found Natalia Lafourcade who is dope. Also, y'all do know it's just his opinion right?

This album scratched that itch for the early 2000's dirty south rap I grew up on. Zel was able to give us that sound without it coming off like an imitation. Even without the features from J and Pat, you can clearly hear the Three 6 influence. Him getting them on a couple of the tracks just tells me they approve and are passing the torch. Also, Zel and OT doing Blackflag Freestyle is everything I didn't know I wanted. All in all, I really enjoyed the album. Heavy 8 to light 9 for me personally.
I always knew Denzel Curry would have 5 albums better than MBDTF, thanks for the confirmation, Fantano.

In all honesty, I've just always thought mbdtf was just a whiny version of late registration, without the charm and atmosphere.
Edit: also, there was a lot of music at the time that was much more forward thinking and interesting that was under appreciated due to how MBDTF was received
Imo, if you want the vibes of MBDTF, with the substance of late registration (for example), then id genuinely recommend any of the "sci Fi esque" rappers and producers from the late 2000s to early 2010s, it makes me wonder if Kanye was into that shit as well and based his album off of that

I was so excited to see Kingpin Skinny Pimp on here and was very disappointed that he didn't have an actual verse. Definitely could have used another song or two. And as someone who loves southern hip hop, especially Memphis rap, I was hoping for a bit more interesting take on the beat side of things. Still a dope project though.

8thany fanto, Dezel Curry is consistently my favorite artist. This album felt like an homage to the sounds that have shaped southern rap. I think you overlooked the interludes and Skinny Pimp's role in this project. Some of my favorite beats and most 'Denzel' sounding pieces of this album were during the short interludes in between more reflective tracks
Denzel really might have the most consistent catalog in rap (not counting the people with very few albums)

i can see why people like it, but that song is not it bro. Denzel and Maxo just don’t bring the hard hitting energy like on other songs, and the beat is very lackluster too imo.
