The Bodyguard was written in the late 60s / early 70s for Steve McQueen. Screenwriter Larry Kasden (Empire Strikes Back, Raiders of the Lost Ark) either rewrote it or the studio hired an uncredited screenwriter to spruce it up, modernize it, either way the original draft was the best version of this material. I wish someone could tell me why Studios think they have to dumb down screenplays / films in order for the audience to enjoy them? It doesn't take Sherlock Holmes to figure out who the bad guy is, Larry Holmes could figure that out!! Too bad.

The first comments I'm seeing are about race which is a shame, pls? Neither Whitney or Kevin wanted it to be addressed or noticed, the characters are simply two people who fall for each other. I'm old and a hopeless romantic. I've always wished Whit & Kev had been a couple in real life, they went together way better than her and Bobby Brown imo. Great movie btw, I saw it twice at the cinema bc I was a huge fan of both and loved the soundtrack & storyline. I didn't like the f bombs though lol.

Instead they use super square white dude Kevin Costner.
We were lucky to even get a black female lead in this movie. Back in 1992 it wasn’t common for Black Actors and Actresses to get roles like this.
