I had hoped that this video would give me some tip or trick for removing the hold down bracket but apparently there isn’t one. Not sure why Ariens decided to make it so difficult to replace a battery. This is far more difficult than any vehicle I own - the design is way overkill for holding down a small 12v battery.

Agree! My bracket had the bolt shear off when loosening it and now I’m having to wait 7-10 days for a new bracket to come in the mail from Ariens. To top it off the battery is sold out or on backorder everywhere.

I'm going to pick up this mower this weekend. The owner said the battery is probably going to need replaced. I need to know what sockets, wrench I will need to take off the nuts. I wish when you guys did these videos that you said what size you will need.

Ariens: I love you guys and your equipment. But PLEASE make your owner’s manuals better. I too could not determine what type of battery I have in my XD without removing it. Lion, AGM, sealed lead acid, NMH, etc. The specifications section is not helpful with battery info. My new battery tender needs to be set specifically for battery type, and this info is important to owners. Then, the manual has no description or graphics for the bracket and fitting when putting it all back together. I also can’t figure out why we even need the small L bracket that attaches to the battery bracket, so I just removed it. Again, some descriptive words or graphics would be helpful.

Thank you for your feedback, Buster. Sorry that fell short of your expectations, but we can tell you the battery in your Ikon XD is an AGM battery. Hope that helps!

Very true about the owners manual. And every mower I've ever owned has had a parts breakdown.

I totally agree! Be more specific about the replacement battery too, my two month old battery died suddenly and when i tried to charge it back up with my trickle charger, the thing almost exploded! S i need to replace the original with a similar battery or is there an alternative battery?

My ikon didn’t come with double nuts like that and the battery hold down bracket is the dumbest design ever

Is there a video that shows how to do this on an apex 60? the manual states "Loosen hex nut securing right hold-down bracket to frame" however I can't find a hex nut anywhere around the battery. I think it would also be helpful to rename this video to call out that it's for the ikon and not just "Ariens" as that gives the viewer the impression that this video covers all of your mowers.

I finally found the hex nut... it's on the BOTTOM of the mower and not where the diagram in the manual leads you to believe. Hope that helps anyone else trying to remove an Ariens Apex battery

It’s obvious whoever decided to put the bolt on the bottom has never had to work on one

@@cyburdinemy bolt sheared off when loosening the nut from the bottom. Had to just order an entire bracket because the damn bolt head is welded on. Horrible design and worst battery changing experience I’ve ever dealt with. Now the new battery is on backorder everywhere

Please do a video that shows how to install a U1 battery to replace the 04738800 OEM battery. The label on the hold down says "Group U1 Replacement Battery Compatible" but I can't figure out how to position the hold down brackets.

You are correct, however, we just want you to ensure the mower is off before starting service.

Thanks for asking, Stevan. Yes, this video shows a 12V AGM battery. These batteries are equipped in all Ariens zero-turn mowers.

Terribly engineered battery hold down. When I need to see exactly where a piece goes, the video speeds it up so much it cannot be followed. Very poor video.
