I was a 21 year old newly turned pro fighter who flew to Vegas in August of 2006 with my parents for Chuck vs Babalu and Forrest vs Stephan 2 at UFC 46. We walked into a burlesque bar at Mandalay Bay (our hotel) the night before the fights and walking out of the same bar to our right was Rampage Jackson and his crew. This was way before most American fans knew who he was. I say to my parents under my breath “That’s one of the best light heavyweights in the world.” My mother asks his name and I tell her “Rampage Jackson.” My mother urges me to go talk to him and I act too cool. I was a 1-0 newly turned pro fighter at the time so my attitude was more like “Nah, I’m not a jersey chaser and I’ll probably have to fight him one day.” 🤭🙄😂 My mother then blurts out “MR. RAMPAGE! MR. RAMPAGE, SIR! This is my son and he will be a UFC fighter one day in your weight class and we just wanted to say hi!”
Rampage immediately sizes me up, looks me up and down, and then says “Bullsh*t. Your big ass ain’t makin’ no god d*mn 205! (I’m 6’4”) How much you weigh?!” And, laughing, I say “240 lbs but I’ve made 205 once already.” He then said “Gaaaah damn! Mother f*ckers like you are gonna be the ones who make me retire early! How old are you?” And I told him (still laughing) that I was 22. He then said “But can you fight?” And I said “I’m 1-0 as a pro.” He said “1 and 0?! And you want to be in the UFC?! Then why you got that damn cigarette?!” (Leaving the bathroom of the previous bar, the bathroom attendant handed me a cigarette after I tipped him. I clearly didn’t smoke but, for whatever reason, put the cigarette in my ear.) When I went to tell Rampage that story, I turned to my left quickly toward my parents to say “They are my witnesses! I don’t smoke. See what happened was…” but at the exact moment I quickly turned to my left, Rampage had thrown up his right hand to “Rampage smack” the cigarette out of my ear but, because of my quick turn and ironic timing, he ended up just slapping the sh*t out of me.
Before I even had the chance to react, he grabbed me and kinda hugged me a bit and immediately apologized and said “Oh sh*t! My bad! My bad! You turned into it! I was just gone smack the cigarette but now I feel like a whole ass asshole! My bad!” and then he got serious and the playfulness went away and he turned to my parents and grabbed my mom’s hand and said “Ma’am, all jokin’ aside, I did not mean to smack the shit out of your son just now. I’m sorry.” And my mom (laughing hysterically) shook his hand back and said “That’s okay. He knows how to take a punch.” To which Rampage then went back to funny Rampage, started laughing, and said “Oh sh*t! She just said he can take a punch like she his manager. Damn, mama!” Then he looked up at me and said “You really might retire my ass one day, huh?!”
Then he asked some questions about where I’m from, where I train, fighting style, plans for the future, when my next fight was, some similar training partners we had trained with, etc., and we ended by taking a pic together and him telling me to go inside and tell the bar that our drinks were on his tab for the rest of the night (which I definitely tried but the bartender didn’t believe me and I didn’t want to push it or go get the bouncer to vouch for me or whatever).
But very long story short, Rampage is the coolest, most genuine, down to earth fighter I’ve ever met and (not a lowkey flex) I’ve met pretty much every single one of the GOATs (and even have been fortunate enough to have trained with a few) and I can’t say enough about Rampage Jackson and that encounter with him some 18 years ago.

As a native Japanese, I never heard our country asking foreigners to come here just to make babies lol. Dating or fear of rejection isn’t the problem of Japan’s declining birth rate. Casual hookups in general is more normal than ever. I really wouldnt consider “work culture” or whatever to be the reason neither. It all comes down to life choices. Japan, especially Tokyo, is extremely accommodating when it comes to single people’s lifestyle. People would rather choose the single lifestyle in the city rather than start a family in the rural area.

Japan is not the only country suffering from population decline. Each country has some unique issues associated with this but the main issue is urbanization as the country industrializes. The concentration of people in an urban environment changes the way people interact with each other and one of the changes is people put off marriage for career purposes and once married have way fewer children. Japan is just the first major industrial country to start dealing with this back in the '90's. There are many other countries who industrialized and urbanized at a much faster pace and will hit the wall on this shortly.

Arona fought in the 2005 Pride FC GP after the slam and was the runner up, he beat Wanderlei Silva, the first to do so after Silva held 15 fight or more win streak in Middleweight (205). Arona then fought him for the belt.
Arona was great wish he went on to the UFC after.

True. It's a completely false narrative that Rampage's slam on Arona hurt him so bad that he was never the same again/didn't fight much after that. Some of Arona's biggest victories in Pride (against Wanderlei, Sakuraba, and Overeem) were actually AFTER the Rampage slam. If anything the slam seemed to make him better, LOL.

Yes, and one of those 3 losses was a split decision against Wanderlei Silva (a lot of people thought Arona was robbed). Another loss was against Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou because Arona fought when he was sick. I don't know why Rampage is spreading this false narrative that Arona didn't fight much after the slam.
