  • I had the pleasure of visiting the town of Roslyn Washington in the summer of 2008. This town is where they filmed exteriors for the great TV series Northern Exposure (1990-1995). I started at the KBHR Radio station studio, and walked past The Brick, Dr. Joel Fleischman's office, and ended the walk at the famous Roslyn Cafe camel mural.

Oh, now that’s really interesting that you’re actually showing the real pics of the (scenes) locations that show up in the actual program. Seeing the KBHR radio station is quite impressive even though it’s really not the real deal, still what’s being shown on this footage is as though you’re really in the town. Thanks.

I went on a pilgrimage to Rosyln, Washington in 1994. This truly was the peak of what Television could be! Once it was cancelled I tossed my TV good-bye.
I remember walking into the Bricjk and the layout was nothing like the show. Plus the radio station was so tight I have no idea how peopl e functioned in it. The church was so tiny too. I am so glad that I had been there.

KBHR isn't in the same place it was during the show. They took it apart and reassembled it in another building.

They didn't film any of the show inside any of the buildings in Roslyn, the inside shots were filmed inside a studio further down in southern Washington in Redmond.

A friend and I traveled to Alaska which was a wonderful experience. Our last stop before we headed back to the lower 48 was Talkenta where we met the mayor, a cat. Based on that experience I'm firmly convinced that the TV show Northern Exposure was based on that town.

Back when "Northern Exposure" was on and I watched it, I imagined going out there. The town of Roslyn was also used for the 1977 movie "Joyride." I was surprised when I saw it, and the Roslyn's Cafe mural hadn't been painted yet. The apostrophe-S in the name was added for "Northern Exposure," which was why it was squeezed in there and the in-universe explanation on the show was that Maurice had to add it after the hippie painter forgot it.

@SocialistReign, it's not a duplicate, it's a real town and that is where the show was filmed.
Every other summer in the last weekend of July they have Moosefest which is a fan festival for the show and some of the fans show up as well as some of the show's cast. Darren Burrows and Grant Goodeve was there in 2010

Wow. Disappointing. It's a lovely little town, like thousands of others. If i squint my eyes, mentally subtract cars, telephone poles and most of the people...while adding a slight breeze, birds and maybe a snow dusting. Still missing somethiiing...and Maggie O'Connell!
