    Meyerhof’s approaches: The important difference between Terzaghi’s and Meyerhof’s approaches is that the latter considers the shearing resistance of the soil above the base of the foundation, while the former ignores it. Thus, Meyerhof allows the failure zones to extend up to the ground surface (Meyerhof, 1951)
    Skempton proposed equations for bearing capacity of footings founded in purely cohesive soils based on extensive investigations (Skempton, 1951). He found that the factor Nc is a function of the depth of foundation and also of its shape.
    Brinch Hansen (1961) has proposed the following semi-empirical equation for the bearing capacity of a footing, as a generalization of the Terzaghi equation. It has been found that Hansen’s theory gives a better correlation for cohesive soils than the Terzaghi theory, although it may not give good results for cohesionless soils.

      sir, in pdf Dq and Dy formula is wrong because Nphi will be multiplied in second term only and not in whole term so please do correct it.

      @@sanishbhochhibhoya7750 actually in IS code directly Q net ultimate is given, that's why q(Nq-1)is used but here formula is for Q ultimate (Qu) only so -1 is omitted

      Please refer the book "Principles of Foundation Engineering" by Braja M. Das. In case you don't have that book, use thia pdf link for the this theory. Link : drive.google.com/file/d/1CL2J2rzV4BxgK9_mURjc_4fubl1v1DIC/view?usp=drivesdk

    Which method is the best for calculating bearing capacity, please your opinion sir

    • @CuriousCivilEngineer
      @CuriousCivilEngineer  Год назад +1

      I think its IS Code method if ur using Indian standard and if you're from other country then use Meyerhof's method.

      Thanks sir
      In my mini thesis
      I used Meyerhof, hansen, vesic eqs to calculate bearing capacity.
      But idk which eq is more safe
      Can i use avg value of these eqs
      How you think sir

    • @CuriousCivilEngineer
      @CuriousCivilEngineer  Год назад +1

      You can compare the results for all of them. Take some footing of rectangular shape and calculate the factor of safety. The method which gives higher FoS is safer.

    • @thetthetsoe8156
      @thetthetsoe8156 Год назад

      Thank you for you kindly reply What value of Fos should be used in these eqs?

    • @CuriousCivilEngineer
      @CuriousCivilEngineer  Год назад

      You have to calculate FoS by assuming size of the footing.
