    Everything you mentioned about the Cayman is so true. Originally owned a 1973 Targa. Loved it! Fast, loud, classic - eye catcher everywhere I went. BUT, wife didn't like it & with no AC in the US southwest its use is limited to a garage queen. Five years ago ran across a 2008 Cayman S MT back in US northeast. Bought it & drove it back Xcountry. Your insights into the Cayman I discovered as we drove the Cayman home; 2,501 miles in 4 1/2 days. What a great experience, the Cayman pleasantly surprised me every mile back home. Soooo comfortable, more than adequate luggage space, not only great in curves (Colorado) but a great road trip vehicle, great gas mileage (24.5 avg for the trip & cruising not limited to 70mph!), great cabin interior for a sports car - purposeful & relaxing, one of the best climate control unit I have experienced - set it & forget it. Alot of car for the money!!! Most important, my wife, like me LOVES the Cayman - its our go to car for our numerous road trips - we've gone everywhere in the west with it. Around town, its size is appealing & feels so right. I got it only because I wanted another porsche to replace my air-cooled one so we could drive more & to more places. I've never looked back. Oh, & before I forget, the FUN, sound, handling & driveability is second to none.

    To me, it's the only true sports car that is also an ingenious daily driver. The luggage space beats some SUVs and it never loses cool.

      Yeah to be honest it’s hard to think of a rival. Audi TT would be one but the boot is rubbish and back seat terrible for passengers. The frunk or froot on the cayman is so convenient. I normally don’t even use the rear one.

  • @janm371

    No doubt here…. Yes, you can use the Cayman as a DD! If you don’t need a family car and are ok with a 2-seater, there is almost nothing like the Cayman. I have owned a 2007 Cayman 987.1 base model for 2 years, sold it for a 2018 BMW 520i break and only after 1 week, I found myself searching for Caymans….. so, after 2 years of searching, 5 months ago finally found the exact right car for me. It is a Cayman S 987.2 manual from 2012, one of the last real analogue cars. I can tell you, I enjoy this car e v e r y single day, puts a smile on my face each time I drive it. My advice is find a 987.2 S, because the interior is so much nicer and the 3,4l DFI engine is such a joy to have behind you. The extra power is lovely to have and the Cayman body can easily handle (so much) more power. Silent’ish when cruising, screaming when you push the pedal to the metal….But also the base model with 2,7l engine is so good and so much fun, just need to rev it more for real speed. I love the Cayman 987.1 & 987.2 and hope I will never ever have to sell my current car. Keep on posting Cayman video’s, great to have more Cayman fans….#bestvalueforyourmoneysportscar

    • @JoeTalksCars
      @JoeTalksCars  3 года назад

      Agree with the 987.2 comment. I wish I got one instead as not only is the interior quite a lot better, its the DFI engine has no issues with scoring. I always worry it has started, just anxiety. I shall keep the Porsche videos going! Any excuse for going out in the Cayman. Thanks for the great comment, it is what keeps me going.

    Hi Joe, I totally agree that the Cayman is a suitable daily driver!
    You mentioned that the recess in the passenger door sill is useful for putting your wallet in; it’s actually designed to take a Porsche umbrella. Original ones are advertised at around £150 on eBay, but I have a GT4 umbrella from design911.
    I also agree with your view on the OEM ICE. I have the PCM2.1 with navigation and phone module. Using the phone is a bit of a novelty, and whilst the navigation works well, including giving turn notifications on the dash display, entering destinations is laborious, and it won’t accept postcodes. However, the good news is that I have heard rumours that Porsche are going to be releasing a PCCM for the 987. Now I know many will complain about how expensive the existing PCCM for the 996/986 is, but if you buy a quality aftermarket ICE unit, you can easily pay prices approaching that of the PCCM. Of course, the Porsche unit will retain the OEM look.

    • @JoeTalksCars
      @JoeTalksCars  3 года назад +1

      I had heard that somewhere about the recess being for the umbrella but also heard they are like rocking horse 💩 a new PCCM sounds great, I’ve been looking at those units that are modern but look old, seen through glass has one if you subscribe to him on here. They look incredible and retain the factory look. Thanks for watching as always! 🚘👍

    • @British99
      @British99 3 года назад +1

      @@FLATSTICK250 I would opt to have the box placed in the glovebox if possible. Design911 offer three umbrellas, ranging from £46 to £64. The GT4 one is fully automatic, so I suspect that the others are too. Well done with the pen, I understand that they are rare.

    I enjoyed and agree with your comments. I daily drive my 987.2 and any negatives are offset by the enjoyment of driving it. In the gen 2 I do get iPod connectivity so can connect the phone to it for music and got an aftermarket phone holder that works fine. I went from BMW 435D company car to a self funded Cayman 2 years ago and haven’t regretted it at all. The tax saving covers the cost of running the Cayman. I am surprised about the mpg I get to be honest as much better than I expected but I specifically didn’t want a car with a Eco mode! I haven’t found getting the higher octane fuel an issue and actually like the Tesco premium unleaded when I can’t get Shell V Power. I do agree that you can tell when you don’t put in the better fuel. Forgot to say I drive a S as well.

    • @JoeTalksCars
      @JoeTalksCars  3 года назад

      Not only the tax saving offsetting it but the way these things are going up in value is reassuring. The .2 is the one to have so they are gonna be holding some strong money for a long time. I use Tesco 99 when I can, I avoid shell to be honest as the cost is crazy! Can be 20p or 30p a litre near me(downsides of living at the seaside) thanks for the comment 👍🚘

Never experienced that with my previous cars and they were good fun cars. I always put 99 fuel in so good tip on fuel. Worthing noting in your next vid is that there is little or no depreciation or perhaps appreciation which can be off set with higher repair cost or serving. My previous car were depreciating by around £1,500 a year over the past 8 years of ownership

    I have a solution for your audio troubles. Get your self a JBL Bluetooth speaker and wedge it under the net behind you. It will hold even at higher speeds or harder breaking. Connect your Bluetooth and enjoy your self.
    I have a 6speed manual guards red 2007 987.1 S,(the preffered package) with over 35k into it...JRZ coilovers,cross suspension,poly bushings. Wavetrac LSD,B&M short shifter,duel-mass flywheel GT3 control arms,GT3 break master cylinder,GT3 side mirrors with carbon inserts,man the car has a lot...sway bars...it's tuned by evolution motorsports it's faster than a 987.2.. like I said,tone of stuff,including motor sports AOS even the fenders are rolled 1 degree... ims/rms resolved. All the cooling issues have been resolved. The car is a track weapon that you can drive home,has brake ducts as well and i promise you the ride comfort is amazing on the street. Right now it has street tires/tyres,continental extreme contact sport 275/35/18 & 245/40/18. The pilot sport 4S were on back order for 3 months for the rears so I went with these,they're just as good.. A lot more comfortable than yours,even though you have the stock suspension. These cars are amazing,yes there are quarks with the car,but every car has those. This car is better than a Cayman R in every way,also I think overall it's better than a GT4 other than the GT4 being faster. GT4's don't have rear sway bars..and don't have the suspension that JRZ provides.
    I don't mean to sound arrogant,I'm just a fan of the car and people shit on it a lot just because of some ims issue that has a 3-7% chances of failing. On a 07 and higher even a smaller percentage than the 3%. The price of these cars also went up a lot over the past year,it's become a nice asset...if you had purchased Porsche stock as well over the past year,essentially you would have been profiting from every direction...instead of buying some stupid kinda new BMW that won't appreciate like these Porsche's. I'm glad you're enjoying your car.

    • @JoeTalksCars
      @JoeTalksCars  3 года назад

      Wow that is some serious work you have done! I bet that transforms it like crazy!! I can imagine the ride being better as really good aftermarket systems do have some good adjustment and for a bumpy road need to be on the softer side to keep the wheels pressed down. Also with mine having the 19 inch wheels it’s a lot more crashy than some of the cars with 18s I’ve been in. It’s like bore scoring ect, very frustrating that it’s all anyone talks about, makes you doubt your own car! Fingers crossed mine will continue to be reliable and entertaining. Thanks for the comment!! 🚘😊

    • @moneymoney733
      @moneymoney733 3 года назад

      @@JoeTalksCars yeah the ride is comfortable,no types of squeaks or weird noises. Bumpy roads don't bother it. The car has adjustable end links,adjustable tow links,full mono ball set up,spacers with extra set of longer Porsche wheel bolts. The car is also corner balanced,and has stainless steel break lines.
      The whole bore scoring thing comes from those that don't monitor their oil level. A lot of people just turn the key and start the car. Wait 6 seconds,let the oil cluster come up and even though Porsche says you can go 10k miles on an oil change,I reduce that to maximum 5k. Once,you learn what the car needs then you'll enjoy it worry free. One other thing...there are 3rd party warranties that you can buy and pay 100 dollars a month,if your engine goes kaput,you're covered.

    I agree that you *can* use a 987 as a daily, but I’m not sure I’d want to: but I’m OCD about mine, wouldn’t want to drive it to the shops, or the short school run :) …. agree with your car parking comments.
    Re radio; mine has a (very cheap - £100?) Bluetooth adapter that the previous owner fitted - I think it mimics the CD changer - so I set my phone playing Tidal (or whatever your preference) or Google maps and it feeds through to the stereo. Sound quality is perfectly fine (Bose sound quality wasn’t that great to begin with), although I’m more interested in listening to the engine tbh.
    Comfort and economy is fine - ran five hours from home to Devon yesterday: A roads, M42 and M5 - 35mpg and perfectly comfortable.
    Never missed a beat on the way down. It’s in having a service and new AC condensers fitted right now - the original
    condensers lasted 14 years, which is pretty good given all the horror stories on the Porsche forums. Looking forward to a cooler drive home :)

      Yeah, I’m lucky that the work carpark is very safe and spacious. I wouldn’t want to leave it in a multi-storey all day tho. I really need to look into a Bluetooth adapter, I’ve gone around for nearly a year now with radio and the same rubbish CDs in the stacker. Wow that’s a long time, very lucky. I live on the coast so doubt mine will last another year!! It’s a big job but can’t live without air con. Even when it’s not even that warm I get so hot. Maybe it’s the thumping flat six sat on the back seat making the car hot.

A Porsche to me is about pin sharp handling, usability, looks and sound. The Tiptronic does not affect any of that.
