Now that this cowtrain horn is no more, I didn't realize how well I knew the sound. Normally a center-of-the-rails shot is pretty mundane, but this one down the street with traffic on both sides, just wow. Really fantastic.
San Francisco? I thought it was the Chestnut Street Industrial Lead, but anyways, that was a great video! I’ve only seen that train there twice in the past 7 years.
Thanks! The train is called the San Francisco Local because it originates in South San Francisco and switches industries around the San Francisco area, in addition to the work it does in Redwood City.
Yes, that's correct. Last I heard, the Mission Bay now originates out of Warm Springs, and runs to Redwood City and/or South San Francisco, and then back to Warm Springs.
Yes, when the Broadway Local did this work, that happened at night, but after being replaced by the San Francisco Local, now it happens during daylight.
Well yeah but location matters, warm springs has multiple local units while the peninsula only has 2 which only get swapped out every few weeks-months so it’s very rare for a ex SP to get on the peninsula. Now even considering geeps aren’t used for the mission bay it’s even more rare
I know that Granite has a huge quarry selling into the Bay Area via train. Is that the source of the aggregate being delivered? The Portland cement figures to be imported from Mexico -- a major, major source. The concrete plant in Redwood figures to be the primary one for the Peninsula. The tankers figure to be toting asphalt tar.

Glad you liked it!
Wow, SP red paint on 1005! These slow locals are fun to watch… thanks SFe 126.
What a video quality!!! Awesome video, great train, congratulations!
Thanks very much!
I remember a time when those GP60s were at the front of SP's Blue Streak.
I used to live near Redwood City and never knew about this line.
The commuter run terminates in San Jose and San Francisco. It's a great ride, as the 101 Freeway is always packed with traffic.
Great catch thx for sharing!!
Thank you!
Good to see some old SPee colors riding the rails still

@ so the mission bay is a complete different train.

What camera is this? Its awesome!
This was shot with a Panasonic HC-X1.
😮 a Cotten Belt GP60?!? Be still, my beating heart 😍
This train use to come through at night now it’s running during the day.

@@caltrain908railfan dang
Saw this one multiple times at warm springs yard before 🤦🤦
Yeah, I think 1005 was working out of Warm Springs for a while.

UP local L537 with 1005 leading!
A cargo train running backwards in the street. That belongs to the developing countries. Incredible.
Thats a long shove
with all the idiots there poor train
Wow thats stupid for a rail line to be in the middle of a road like that
It’s actually very common. Towns grew up around rails and industrial sites needed rail access-still do
Trains where first then towns then roads and cars nothing stupid about it
