Love seeing trains at work. When I was eight years old I was standing much too close to a passing train. The neighbor lady (in her seventies) came out of her house and screamed at me 'what are you doing? Get the hell away from there.' Now I know why!! But she made me cry. If Mrs Montfort was alive today I'd give her a hug....
As a retired Up engineer watching these videos helps me to cope with my loss of income seeing my 41.7year friends and my love of trains I took down my massive ho scale up/bnsf/ns layout to give the space to a family member I miss my job, retirement $ is hard to live off of,keep putting out the fine work that yall do it's a great help to us that need it
I worked out of this yard many years. Brings back good memory’s. ..lots of good men. I’m grateful to have had the experience of being a part of “ building America”
These huge features are just amazing. We can only dream of something like this in Germany. Really nice to look at. Greetings from North Rhine-Westphalia in Germany.
@@patrickmollohan3082I'd like to disagree on that, American engineering is better, think about it, who made the atom bomb: USA who made the biggest locomotive: USA etc
Perfect footage ! And what a souvenir !! In 2012 we visited the Southwestern US from Belgium. Thanks to Google Earth I discovered that very spot on the bridge of Pepper Avenue ! An impressive and busy beehive, this huge Colton Yard ! Much obliged for the memories.
Great shots. Since UP has taken over the SP yard they certainly have cleaned everything up. COLTON use to be quite messy and dirty when SP had it. Looks great. My last visit here goes bac some forty years. I miss it. Jim Hatboro, PA
I have never seen so many trains. Cool as to how they switch tracks to hook up with certain lines of cars. I swear that one train was at least over a mile long.
I lived uphill from a rail yard. I used to love the distant creaking sounds of the freight trains coupling and uncoupling at night especially when it was raining. Very relaxing sleep
That was splendid, great video, I can watch this and NEVER get bored, you sure know how to get my attention, now that's what I call a BIGG yard with LOTS OF TRAINS COMN & GOING FROM BOTH DIRECTIONS. Great job 👍👍 👍 Merry Christmas🎄🎄🎄 Let's see more!!!
Mesmerising & Fascinating at the same time. One very busy yard. Quality video. If it were not for the backdrop scenery (mountains) & highway traffic, you could almost imagine this being a model layout.
Marktheartest if you’re single and don’t mind basically being “owned” by UP, go for it. The pay and training(no pun intended) is great. If you have a family and/or a life I wouldn’t recommend it.
Its nice seeing the SD40's doing solid work, even if its in the yard. My childhood memories are of watching those beasts on the open road in the feather river canyon.
Just found this video; very very nice, thank you for uploading, and for the work you did to it. I downloaded sound and video to play on the background when doing model railroading. Playing this hrough my Logitech Z906 5.1 (500W RMS) sound system my spouse thought that a whole railroad yard had moved down our cellar where mu setup sits :).
I have plenty of action near where I am now but it's mostly and increasingly electric mutliple units.... sighs. I guess by 2035 only freight trains will use locomotives. And electric or hydrogen ones, that is. Passenger trains will be EMUs or hydrogen multiple units by then. No more Diesel.
When I'm stuck at a crossing gate in my auto by a long train, I like to watch the art painted on the side of the railcars pass by. It makes my wait as a motorist less painful.
Hi Michael! Just subscribed to your channel. Fantastic videos! I'm in Australia and watching these 4K videos is great entertainment. I just had a new computer built with a 4K video card and a 4K monitor, so for me it's almost like being there! Thanks for sharing! Stew.
I worked the work train that laid the first carloads of ballast when the yard was being built in 1973. Us SP people called the yard West Clowntown or malfunction junction.
Amazing filming, your American trains are so fascinating, how do they know which container is going where, I suppose they are loaded all over then marshalled into their respective trains here.
shnimmuc it’s because BN cares about their business and their employees and buys the best. UP just keeps using junk that should of been retired long ago. Look how much cleaner the BN units are. Cuz they actually wash em. UP’s COLTON wash rack was shut down years ago. UP recently voted worst company in the USA to work for. And I can attest for that.
Amazing rail movie! Awesome images with trains and locomotives in action! Good work, Michaell! Thumbs Up & Subscribe! ;-) Greetings from Romania Andrew
Great stuff Micheal awesome power and enormously long trains enjoyed it just subscribed to your channel. I have my own channel in England were we have plenty of steam on charters but they are all postponed at the moment because of covid Look forward to seeing more of your work thanks. Brian

Hope you are ok Reginald
What happened Reg? Bad ordered?
That's sad!!!! I drive for hallcon and I have much respect for the train conductor and engineers I transport
I hope you don't miss the company more than the co workers.
If you save 5% from your payment every month. At the end, you'll retired as a rich man. But,
Nice! No stupid music, no voices, just that wonderful sound of large diesel engines!
Awes me. The amount of power in motion. Always had a fascination with train power.
I worked out of this yard many years. Brings back good memory’s. ..lots of good men.

Awesome trains. Thanks for being here. You just don't see them like this on the east coast
Jet fighters and locomotives, two of the greatest inventions!
I love trains I could watch them all day long
My Brother James worked SP LA and UP Colton Ca. Trains is all he talked about. I miss my Brother James..R.I.P❤
I lived fairly close to that yard. UP trains are my faves!
These huge features are just amazing. We can only dream of something like this in Germany. Really nice to look at.

Most long-distance US freight trains are significantly over a mile. Anything up to about 2.5 miles is pretty common, and most are well over 1.5 miles.
I love train also Michael , ( since I was 6 yrs old ) !
👍
I worked there in '73 when it was SP. It was state of the art then.
I just love how the train companies work together on hauling freight. Respect!

That is some very sweet video. I am amazed how "lightly" those locomotives seem to glide over the tracks.
Great video. So good to see so much rail traffic moving!
I lived uphill from a rail yard. I used to love the distant creaking sounds of the freight trains coupling and uncoupling at night especially when it was raining. Very relaxing sleep
Fran I get that! I grew up on Air Force bases and the sound of jet noise to me is a lullaby. The louder the better.
I'll bet. I could go to sleep comfortably listening to that. Cheers digger. 🇦🇺🚝👍
This is one of my all-time favorite railroad videos. Thanks for your great work!
Colton ca. Best hot spot on the west coast...trains from here goes all over the U.S.A...😜miss you SP...born in my home town...
Yard work is so fascinating to watch...and avoid!
Very good sequence of movements of locomotives, wagons ... trains in general..
Cheers from Brazil..
I could watch these all day long...Awesome job on filming...
Nothing beats the sound of an SD70ACe.
Thanks for that.... Loved the whole thing...
Awesome video, would love to go here one day to watch trains.
I like watching these on playback speed x2, reminds me of model trains in a way lol
Looks like a fantastic place to be, especially for a UP fan. Great video!

the best I have seen on this yard. great action and the yard is well illustrated.
It looks like that's an extremely busy yard! Thanks for the great videos.
Wonderful footage from a great location. Plenty busy. Greetings from the Train Lord in South Australia

Jolie vidéo avec de tout dans tous les sens. Merci de nous l'avoir transmise. Amicalement.
Thanks. I prefer watching yard ops vs a long line of cars going by.
Really great action! Nice to get some horn shows too! New subscriber!
This is one seriously awesome video dude,so many locomotives in 1 place, absolute heaven.Thumbs up from New Zealand.
Lots and lots of trains. Probably one of the busiest yards in the country. Really enjoyed it. Cool video. 👍👍👍❤️ Decided to subscribe. Thanks

That is a nice location to shoot from. Reminds me of the pedestrian bridge over the yard in Springfield MO.
Great video, good job, thanks. I've already read about the West Colton Yard - very interesting. Best regards from Germany. :-)

Vraiment géniale toutes ces vidéos. Merci de la France. Amicalement;
Trains, trains everywhere a train, why one can truly lose his train of thought by watching so many trains at once lol.
Good video way to get the work done

This is one busy place, loved it Michael & Just Subscribed 👍😎
Man...Always wanted to be a train engineer..Should have pursued it
Great video. I mus say, UP is a lot more interesting in their use of locomotive brands then BNSF which is largely GE
shnimmuc it’s because BN cares about their business and their employees and buys the best. UP just keeps using junk that should of been retired long ago. Look how much cleaner the BN units are. Cuz they actually wash em. UP’s COLTON wash rack was shut down years ago. UP recently voted worst company in the USA to work for. And I can attest for that.
Is BNSF really "largely GE"? They have literally hundreds of SD70s, and most of their yard and local power is Geeps and SD40s.
Both companies are largely GE, specifically GEVO’s.
Que máquina incrível parabéns!!!
Lots of action. Thanks.

I like those little lights down by the switch point motors. I wonder if there's a clear picture of one of those, so as to build a model of that lamp?
Very interesting video! 👏👏
