I worked for the BNSF up until 2002. I worked this local switch job a few times. The guys filming would have passed out if they saw the way we switched out Malabar yard. Kicking a cut of 3 cars uphill hard enough to clear the engine into another track, letting them roll back down the same lead and catching them with the engine on the other side. Old school way to make a turn with only one man on the ground.
I live only a few minutes away from this yard. I've known about it for years, but never really knew how operations work. Great video! (Didn’t know the consist actually passes through Alondra).
Thanks, I just found out about it recently as well. Part of the problem is it runs so early in the morning - difficult to catch! Hope you get a chance to chase it sometime. (There are other locals that originate out of the yard - I believe on different days of the week!)
