- A walk through of the hub bearing and seal replacement on a Land Rover Defender, manufactured from 1998 onwards.
Although this tutorial video is specific to a 1998-on Defender, the principle is the same for many 4x4 vehicles.
In this we replace both bearings and the grease seal.

Nice video sir but that's the wrong way to put grease
More grease!!!
Pack your bearings full of grease folks, put a blob of grease in your hand and whack the wheel bearings side into it repeatedly...
Dude... The hitting it with a hammer and not even getting the force in the ring of the bearing is warping the bearing...
If you want to do it like this, dont slip off with the punch..
Or take the old bearing and use this as an hammering template..
Cheers
Jesus Christ that’s NOT how you put grease on a new bearing! Fail!!
Why is it wrong?
Crafty Kids that's insufficient grease the bearings will run dry
Crafty Kids you need to ‘pack’ the bearing with grease. Get a blob of grease in the palm of your hand and force the grease through the rollers side on, if you get what I mean. He’s probably replaced that bearing 3-4 times since the making of this video greasing it like that.
Hi really nice video. how did you separate the wheel hub assembly from the disc assembly?
Thanks Romel. There is 5 bolts inside the disc that bolt to the disc to the rear of the hub. This picture shows the inside of the hub and the 5 bolts (12 point star heads.) forums.lr4x4.com/uploads/1204223413/gallery_2_473_27660.jpg
Once the bolts have been removed, the disc and hub will separate with a little persuasion.
