- Today we do another beach walk, today at #playa Las Peñitas outside of Poneloya, León, Nicaragua. We do the entire south loop which is the main epicenter of activity on the beach area.

Funny how things evolve, Borca de Ora to Oasis hotel was center of the action when I started going there in 2006. Road was not paved and not unusual to see pigs and cows milling about.
The pigs are still there. Not the cows so much.
I went on the other beach... a few km away yesterday. Walked for 5 hours... Loved it. Too many business in las Peñitas...
Poneloya side, agreed. That’s the more of the Nic. Crowd. Local flavor.

But if you get towards the end of Poneloya, loads of businesses up there. They are just all clumped down at the one end.
A kayak for the ocean? I'd not want to do that. Never seen anyone out there with a kayak. That water is rough.

I spent two winters in Las Penitas, 2014-2015,.I spent a lot of time at the Lazy Turtle and Dulce Mareas, the closed building you mentioned after the turtle. Both places were owned by Canadian couples. It's sad to think of both gone.
The Dulce Marea people ard still here and are improving their place. I'm not sure what Chris's long term plans are for the place. But they live there for sure. And Simple is much nicer than it was.
Lazy Turtle sold recently, like 1-2 years ago. But it doesn't seem to have been touched. Just sold and forgotten.
I remember eating at the Lazy Turtle... Oh, is that Mike's Place like Mike Lopez?

Love the beach and the estero. Is there any fishing available?
There IS fishing. Shore fishing isn't super popular but a few people are generally out there in the mornings (before it gets too hot) to fish from the rocks. Farther out there is loads of fishing. It's a fishing village, so the small boats got out at night and fish. Lots of people do deeper water fishing for tuna and such from Las Peñitas.
Hello Scott ,you talked about the beach bus coming in from Leon, where in Leon does on catch this bus? my wife and i are traveling to Nicaragua in a few months and want to see Las Penitas.
I answer this in tomorrows video with a full explanation. But it's on the north side of marcedito in sutiava right on Ruben Dario. I walk past it in the most recent Nicaragua360 video too
