A small addition to the segment around 29:00 about doing it all yourself: It’s easy to forget that making one dress (or whatever garment) often involved not just multiple professionals, but multiple professions. The tailor/dressmaker was rarely also the embroiderer or the milliner. Even in modern couture houses, rarely does one person do it all. So when you’re trimming your fancy dresses and embroidering your waistcoats, remember that you’re taking on the work of multiple professionals - for your own enjoyment.
I love projects that are real in terms of the length of time it actually takes. "Quick" projects that take forever are so very real. Thank you for this. I'm currently procrastinating making my cousin's wedding dress. You're giving me inspiration.
I enjoyed the Neverending Story music- pretty appropriate for the neverending sewing project, I think. Your cute jacket was worth the wait, and the hat is just adorable!
Oh my gosh this jacket turned out so cute! Thank you again for sharing my Tambour Embroidery class! It's always a pleasure getting to hang out and chat with you
I'm loving the extra encouragement! My husband chooses to not be irritated by my sewing (because I fuss my way through them like they're the most stressful thing and he hates it when I'm stressed ❤) and my kids aren't anywhere near old enough to actually help.
The pink petticoat looked amazing. I absolutely loved that with it because it gives such a soft feminine look. It is one of my favourite new pieces of yours. There is so much life in that fabric.
I wish I was a poet. I don't have the words for how much this video made me smile throughout your process. It's absolutely lovely. The ancestors would be proud!
Lovely fabric, beautiful fit and construction. Loved your reflection at how great your handfinishing was in retrospect compared to how you felt about it at the time. I feel like so many of us see flaws in work that nobody else would ever see, when it's actually done well.
I have definite memories of being disgusted at my own work while I'm doing it, only to look at it months later and not even be able to see anything wrong.
That project was worth the wait! And you have so many skirts to go with it. I loved the LOTR comments. From time to time we do a marathon at my house too and I get so much done because that is one long journey! We’re still waiting for the snow to melt and then it will flood. I’m making a little Nancy Drew fabric quilt that I put together ages ago and now it needs quilting. Oh and THANK YOU for the class referral! I can’t wait to try tambour. I’m going to get that class today!
OMG! The classes sound amazing! I really want all of the ones that you were taking about. I have no time. I totally need more time!! Oh that’s stunning! To be honest I had forgotten about this! Until you mentioned it. It’s not a horrible thing that projects get lost in the shuffle. Real life has a nasty habit of mucking up plans. I have a couple projects on the back burner that I really should get back to. My son wants a dress shirt. He’s even bought the material. Once the grandson finds out he’ll want one as well! I’ve been spring cleaning. Though I’m being hampered by needing to fix my closet. I spend half my time discovering that I can’t do this until I do that! I’m also losing an argument with my washer. I’m not reading anything right now but I did just buy Murder with Peacocks by Donna Andrews. My friend has been talking about it for years and it was on sale at audible so yeah. I guess I should read it. I made her pick up May Sage’s Wicked Crown series cause I want to talk to her about it. So I should pick up one of the series she talks about. She didn’t tell me it was like 30 or so long now! We’ve been friends for almost 40 years now so she puts up with my bossy ways 😅
Oh my god, Moviephone! I forgot that was a thing! 😂 The jacket is beautiful. I LOVE the fabric. It looks fantastic for this project. 👌 You looked so proud and happy in the reveal shots. It was worth the time it took for sure. Well done. :)
I'm procraftinating starting a whole Regency ensemble by luceting some cord for trim to go on a wool Spencer. I'm dealing with ME/CFS so being constantly low on energy makes the startitis even worse, and doing small projects sitting on the sofa, watching through all your old vlogs is both helpful and inspiring. It was actually serching YT for videos on making Regency stays that led me here. Came for specific content, stayed for the entire personality. Epic win for an introvert to find a chatty extrovert doing vlogs, doesn't matter that the conversation is a bit one-sided as long as you have fun making them and we all have fun watching them. ❤
I've been working on a basic bodice block for over 2 years now and still not got it right so I think 10 months to do a fairly complex, mostly hand-sewn project with multiple side quests along the way is entirely respectable. Also, great reaction to too much lord of the rings 😂 just put it in the volcano already is a vibe
Beautiful fabric and jacket!!! I have an embroidered quilt that I started in the late 1990's, finally finished that this century...and yet it is not a quilt yet. There are many more projects that are not quilts yet. Oh and a dress that I started in the early 1990's that is not finished and will never fit me but I have found someone tiny enough that it will fit!!! So you are goin well for just 10 months to finish!!!!!!! LOL
I’m going to preface this with I’m old and when I was young I was so upset with a pattern that I called the maker on a phone mounted on the wall😂. I talked to a nice lady and when we were done she basically told me they use fit models and I was too large and tall😢. Lesson learned was now I customize every pattern to fit me before I start. I wish was a quick fix I could recommend but someone smarter than I will have to come up with that.
That IS the cutest little jacket! Looks so amazing with that adorable hat. Finished the Sandman season, got over COVID, finished my shawl and starting a new shawl with my very first yarn I dyed myself.
Stunning Lady in new jacket and assemble. I knitted on a small child sweater which when complete will be donated to Operation Christmas Child in the Fall. Reading Fanny Flagg's Daisy May and the Miracle Man. Your Scott is beautiful black like my Galia.💚💚💚
I did a double-take at the back-it has such surprisingly '80s feels; but then, you turn around, and it's like BAM fab neckline and shaping! Also, the music was a refreshing respite from the typical RUclips stock music every crafter seems to favor; I understand the library prevents videos from getting bopped, but I'd hope it's bigger than just 3 pieces to choose from 😅
Wow that turned out so well! So pretty! Well the house has sold! We are very happy. I booked all the flights and movers. Now to get rid of a lot of stuff! Moving is expensive so rather then move the old stuff, we are giving it away and looking forward to an all new beginning. No more "ghosts" no more triggers. (Caregiving and death leave a lot of issues behind) Due to the now excess energy I haven't been doing much reading or knitting, just throwing stuff out and organizing.
Yay for asymmetical bodies-- and the ability to tailor clothes to make them look like the fit like a glove! I was thinking that excess on the outer fabric probably is done on purpose. There is always easing in quilting...well in my version there is. So, that's what makes me think the easing was intentional so that the seam allowance was wide enough (and also to give it strength).
We never had Moviefone where I grew up, but there's a pretty hilarious scene in a Seinfeld episode where Kramer poses as the Moviefone man. THAT's how I knew what you were talking about 🤣. Oh, and the jacket is lovely, gorgeous fabric!
❤this one looks amazing on you! The style and color are both very flattering. I’m dying to see how the different skirts look. Guess I’ll have to break down and open up instagram to see if you have posted any photos
Seeing from the side is actually legit helpful. I am about the same size/ build and that curve at the bottom in stays where my belly starts drives me crazy. I’ve started trying to gently pad underbust to try and make the front of my historical clothes totally straight but seeing someone else with that curve makes me feel much more human/normal. I know this is peak weird, but I appreciate the detail. Thanks for showing all angles, it actually means a lot to me. ❤
I agree. Sleeves are not necessary. I spend as much time as possible in sleeveless clothing. FREE THE ARMS! It may have taken a long time, but your jacket turned out beautifully! It goes with Lynn's hat perfectly :D

@@Costuming_Drama thanks. Not something I'd wish on someone. Watching & listening to you & others was soothing. Time to get to work on pottery again. Wish your planning board would work for me
Seeing you doing this, it makes me rethink of making the historical clothing for my porcelain doll, she’s one of a kind made by someone and I bought a lot of patterns. And it’s in German so try to translate it 😂. It’s historical children clothing for dolls. I have to pick up my hand stitching skills. Than I can maybe do like you do take it on my travels.
You look beautiful in your spring colors. I notice that you wear a lot of brownish colors, so I was nice to see a change. The jacket fit you so well, great work.
Very pretty jacket. The dress looked lovely in your garden, I'm waiting for my ceanothus to flower in the next week or so, the blue is beautiful in my front garden. Yours looked lovely behind you.
Oh that hat! Oh my! And so much more! Currently crocheting a Hexagon Cardigan, watching British classics - Inspector Dalgleish and Rumpole. Had a fun adventure choosing some vintage yarn, fabric and patterns from an estate sale.
That little "bite" adjustment on the armpit edge of the strap (@32:14) is the exact same adjustment I want to make to several things i own! I think it's got something to do with the relative distance between the underbust and the armpit, like the design expects there to be more space there than there really is, or maybe they expect the arm to be much larger than it is. Busty people problems.
Working on stays still, hoping to start on a couple different dresses/shits/shirts for the Liza Roberts shoot in September. Currently watching Ted Lasso and The Power as they come out
"What am I doing wrong as a maker?" It might not be you. Every time I tried to line up curves with each other (princess seam for example) I'd wind up with one side that behaved and one side that didn't. It's gotten better since I walked my seams (heavily modified pattern for my shape) and found one was out a quarter-inch, and also I don't mark my seam allowances anymore, I mark my stitch lines. Makring the stitch lines has definitely improved my sewing accuracy.
Hi, I know I found you through other costubers, most certainly it was Bernadette saying do the thing. And I heard it more and more often, and was probably directed to your channel 😅 You look really happy with your new jacket and hat! Thanks for sharing. I'm from the Netherlands, I think you know Myrthe (atelier Nostalgia) and if course Nikki (Lee-am) who I've met at balls here in the Netherlands. I also make my own historical(ly inspired) costumes, mostly to dance in. I am pretty sure I've got fabrics lying around for much longer than it took you to make that jacket (was handy to have a fabric stash in Corona time though), so that's okay, it just took its time
Hahaha probably! That’s kinda my motto! Nice to meet you! Those ladies you mentioned are lovely! You are lucky to get to see them way more often than I do!!
I'm sitting outside watching this while my Siamese cat Bonk is screaming at the door for me.😁 Give Scott some smoochy kisses from me. Lovely jacket, so spring like and fresh looking. The hat is beautimous as well!
This jacket is really pretty. I'd like to have one too. I love this kind of pattern, have some blouses with it. It's practical in that it fits with lots of other colors and doesn't show stains easily. Greetings from Germany.
You look so pretty! I am in awe of how easy you made this look! I know it's not easy, especially when you pic something up and put it down multiple times but I think you did great! You've inspired me to bump my 18th century wardrobe up on the list
Love the jacket, the fabric is so pretty. I'm sewing a 15th. century kirtle with a black linen bodice and and purple, red and gold striped skirt to wear over a linen smock with super wide sleeves. Headed to an SCA event this weekend
Your hat and matching Amelia jacket with the variety of skirts look terrific! Thanks for the info on Casey's classes, etc. I will definitely check those out. Currently, I'm fighting sinus-allergy nose and throat issues--NOT fun. And, I heard you say early on that you have a new baby kitty--FANTASTIC!!! My youngest just turned a year old last week. His name is Albus Dumbledore and he is smart and very good at the "lumos!" spell.
@@Costuming_Drama ROUGH is right. Thx for well wishes! So far, still not breathing easily. Clearly I misunderstood about a new cat, but I know you have several at home to love, which is always a good thing IMO.
Your right it's the cutest and you look adorable in it! 😊🩷 And what a lovely garden to stroll in my lady. Very pretty hat for your collection. The 2 1/4 yds, did it shrink a lot after u wash & dryed? The pleated skirt was the additional prob. Is there anyway you can slice off the shoulders on Judy? Tambour beading is hard I found (though) I do need to practice more...and the French petite main do it from the back...prob why it's hard . I'm always in awe of those who write books!
😊 thank you! And that hat doesn’t get to belong to me! It’s Lynn’s beautiful creation, but I do get to ask to borrow it if I need it, which is just as wonderful!
Oh it turned out beautifully! I've just come to terms with the fact that the pants I have cut out and ready to sew are actually too far beyond my skill set. So I'm putting them out of my sight.
I... did another crazy person project.. Am doing I guess. I decided that I wanted to change the design of a skirt I had planned to make it have flower petal ruffles, because spring. And I decided that I needed it for a trip this Friday. It is Wednesday evening and I am trying to get the scalloped ruffles hemmed so I can attach them tomorrow. I might actually get this done! Even if the tulip shaped patch pockets are waiting till I get home. Love the bodice! It's so pretty! and I have serious envy for your hat!
I always love watching / listening to your videos. I feel like I’m catching up with a friend. It’s OK to take a long time on some projects, it’s the pace you had to have. It turned out great, your reveal was perfect for this jacket!
I am CRUNCHING at the moment. Right now finishing a Star Trek tunic for an Etsy order and still have ti finish a Tighnari and Child of Light dress for my friends and make a Deet and Jibaro costume for myself for London Comic Con end of May. XD
Congrats on getting this project done! It truly is the cutest jacket and cutest hat! Today was meant to be a rest day after getting an appointment but adhd brain struck and suddenly I was cutting up my flanno to make it into a crop version, as I'd been half planning to since I bought it last Winter as we're starting to creep into cold weather again. I was just finishing off the new hem when this video started in my watch later, and it felt really appropriate to have your "company" while I worked through it. Both because your grunge dress, but also the theme of this video. While I had been able to wear the flanno for the year, I have spent many hours pondering what the process will be to make the change, while working on other projects or being side-tracked by life. Classic scope creep has entered the ring though, the sewing is finished but I realised I have some cute pink buttons to replace the "classic" brown buttons, because I didn't mention already: it's a hot pink and white flanno. So so comfy and ridiculous, and going to be so much better for having cute buttons too.
Lovely colors. I like your channel, because it shows that costuming/historical/inspiraded clothing is for everyone :-) . You look stunning. Best regards from Germany
This turned out great! And your backyard is so pretty!! I am indeed old enough to remember movie phone, along with digging through the newspaper to find movie times. Which reminds me, I had to explain to my 9 year old niece how tv used to work before streaming was a thing. Not sure if she really understood, lol. 😂
I have an almost 7 yr old and I have to do the same for him for TV and also for the radio. “I’m sorry I can’t skip this song, it’s not Pandora.” He had declared that the radio is “stupid”.
Noelle I think everything you make is amazing! I am learning to crochet a 3D elephant border on a baby blanket Sending you well wishes and lots of love xo
I saw this coat on Insta. It's so cute on you!!!! It looks so eastery... to be more secular, spring-y!...could it be....? That's what you were going for? You said the fabric was from Colonial Williamsburg... this is recreated from a period example, I assume. So interesting. It looks so fitting for a kimono, too. I made the hat you encouraged me to make. I'm currently on a history thread on my own insta, but I will tag you when I get to it. I turned out nice. I hope it will serve its purpose through those HOT summer months. Can't wait. I understand about putting off projects. For me, sewing is a hobby rather than a job, so when the job calls, the sewing gets put back a bit. I have this flannel kimono that I want so bad, but I've been putting it off for almost a year now. I have the fabric and everything. I just... you know when the time is just not right? That is my flannel kimono project. I really want it though. No, instead I am trying to get more performance videos up on my channel. I am a traditional storyteller, but I have been off because of the pandemic and my health. This year is my 10 year anniversary since I was given my professional name, so I'm trying to have some sort of event. Ten years at anything is something to celebrate, right?
I love how this came out! You did a great job with the sleeves As for what I'm working on, I'm currently juggling undergraduate homework with sewing the ribbons onto my second ever pair of pointe shoes. And possibly dyeing them purple, because who doesn't want purple pointe shoes! :D
I'm sure I'll be thinking about the random house holes for a bit, but only after I stop smiling about the Wha-BAM! moment after you turned the hat around. Great project!
oh Moviefone. the days of my youth. I had to argue with a suburban dad at the D&D movie who had bought his tickets (to a different movie) on Fandango, which I didn't know still existed 🤣
This turned out so cute! I'm currently doing the main construction seams on a wool tunic for my boyfriend. Not really the season for wool anymore, but it's something I have the supplies for that I'd like to get off of my list. I'm going to repurpose the brocade trim from an older tunic that was badly stained in places, so he will have a second cold weather tunic.
Have I told you lately that I love that fabric 😂 I'm sure I've said it once or twice before. I'm old enough to remember Movie Phone and I think the jacket came out perfect. Remember compassionate deadlines....It took as long as it needed to.❤
Am I the only one who thinks this type of jacket, would ROCK modern jeans or slacks? SO cute and unique to the boring stuff we wear today!
I FULLY agree.

Gosh, I love that jacket! The fabric is gorgeous and the style suits you so well! 😍😍
Thank you so much!!
You look beautiful in your spring colors. I notice that you wear a lot of brownish colors, so I was nice to see a change. The jacket fit you so well, great work.
That’s funny that you say that! When I look at my closet, everything is all kinds of colors! There are only two brown things in there!
You look so pretty! Love how many skirts you have to go with the jacket. I am drawing threads for my first chemise.
The pink skirt looks lovely…
Very pretty jacket. The dress looked lovely in your garden, I'm waiting for my ceanothus to flower in the next week or so, the blue is beautiful in my front garden. Yours looked lovely behind you.
Oh thank you! That plant has eaten a whole bench! I should go recover it! 😂
Yeah all designs expect me to have more busy than I actually do!
Thank you for the vote of confidence!
Beautiful! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
I'm so glad I decided to watch this even though I'm a year late- I've been looking for a tambour class for ages!
Oh yay! Glad to help!!
The jacket is pretty! Glad you were inspired by the cute hat.
Yes, I remember MovieFone, lol!
Thank you!
Hi, I know I found you through other costubers, most certainly it was Bernadette saying do the thing. And I heard it more and more often, and was probably directed to your channel 😅
You look really happy with your new jacket and hat!
Thank you!!
This jacket is really pretty. I'd like to have one too.
I love this kind of pattern, have some blouses with it.
It's practical in that it fits with lots of other colors and doesn't show stains easily.
Greetings from Germany.
Thank you! 😊 and greetings from California! 💖
I love these jackets; you look fantastic, Noelle!
xoxo's Sandie😊
Thank you so much!
Lovely!
You look so pretty! I am in awe of how easy you made this look! I know it's not easy, especially when you pic something up and put it down multiple times but I think you did great! You've inspired me to bump my 18th century wardrobe up on the list
Oh wonderful! I hope you make amazing things!!
Love that you give other people a platform also 🥰 the courses sound really good!
💖💖
When I get paid, I'm definitely signing up for the tambour embroidery course. I've been wanting to learn for years.
“Hello, and welcome to Movie Phone”
I loved calling movie phone.
Also calling time and temp.
I’ve been making Pom poms for SeamStressed.
What a lovely jacket😊
Love the jacket, the fabric is so pretty. I'm sewing a 15th. century kirtle with a black linen bodice and and purple, red and gold striped skirt to wear over a linen smock with super wide sleeves. Headed to an SCA event this weekend
Have a great time!!
Ohmygolly!… your jacket looks sooo pretty on you!!! ❤❤❤❤❤
Oh thank you! 💖
Nope! No new kitty! Not sure what conveyed that! But I hope you feel better soon! Allergy stuff is ROUGH this year!
@@Costuming_Drama ROUGH is right. Thx for well wishes! So far, still not breathing easily. Clearly I misunderstood about a new cat, but I know you have several at home to love, which is always a good thing IMO.
was worth the wait, one of my favorite things you have made...I love colonial prints.....
Thank you!
Awww I bet they aren’t nearly as far out of reach as you think they are if you just take it step by step!
I... did another crazy person project..
Dying to know if you got it done?
@@Costuming_Drama I did! I am home from my trip and working on the patch pockets. I will tag you when the pics go up on Insta
Yes pls!!
I always love watching / listening to your videos. I feel like I’m catching up with a friend. It’s OK to take a long time on some projects, it’s the pace you had to have. It turned out great, your reveal was perfect for this jacket!
Thank you so much!
Love the whole outfit.👒
I am CRUNCHING at the moment. Right now finishing a Star Trek tunic for an Etsy order and still have ti finish a Tighnari and Child of Light dress for my friends and make a Deet and Jibaro costume for myself for London Comic Con end of May. XD
Oh I hope you have a great time at comic con!
@@Costuming_Drama Thank you!!
Turned out really nice.
Lovely colors. I like your channel, because it shows that costuming/historical/inspiraded clothing is for everyone :-) . You look stunning. Best regards from Germany
Thank you so much!
Hahahaha younglings!
I have an almost 7 yr old and I have to do the same for him for TV and also for the radio. “I’m sorry I can’t skip this song, it’s not Pandora.” He had declared that the radio is “stupid”.
So pretty!! And the fabric is beautiful 🌺
Thank you! 😊
Noelle I think everything you make is amazing!
I am learning to crochet a 3D elephant border on a baby blanket
Sending you well wishes and lots of love xo
Thank you so much! I am dying to know what a 3d elephant border looks like!
I love Casey's channel
Gorgeous 😍 thank you for the course info, I can't wait to start the moth🥰
Oh great! I got the skull!
Wow. Super great job. Looks amazing on you. You rock girl!
Thank you so much!!
Ooo will you dm me your hat on insta? I wanna see!!
That came out so beautifully! I love the fabric ❤
Thank you! 😊
The birds in the background at the end ☺️
Great job! I wanted you to model all the skirts with the blouse/top.
Maybe next time. That much getting dressed is exhausting!
Turned out really pretty!
Another great video. And it came out amazing, like always. 👍🏽😃
You are so kind! Thank you!
I love how this came out! You did a great job with the sleeves
As for what I'm working on, I'm currently juggling undergraduate homework with sewing the ribbons onto my second ever pair of pointe shoes. And possibly dyeing them purple, because who doesn't want purple pointe shoes! :D
Purple pointe shoes sounds awesome!
very cute jacket, love the fabric as well.
Thank you! 😊
I'm sure I'll be thinking about the random house holes for a bit, but only after I stop smiling about the Wha-BAM! moment after you turned the hat around. Great project!
Thank you! 💖
oh Moviefone. the days of my youth.
Sounds great!
@@Costuming_Drama thanks 😊
Have I told you lately that I love that fabric 😂 I'm sure I've said it once or twice before.
I'm old enough to remember Movie Phone and I think the jacket came out perfect. Remember compassionate deadlines....It took as long as it needed to.❤
Love that!
