    Things are buzzing at the English Homestead. Elysia means beesness. Philip swarm around your honey and make sure beehive yourself. Hive a bee-tiful day. Ok enough with the puns I need to bee- hive myself. Lol 🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝

    If you can remember which frame was the heaviest, that is probably where your queen will be. She is being protected by all of the workers! Good luck on your bee adventure. My dad had bees for 60 years and I am proud to say that my son now has been in the beekeeping business for about 8 or 9 years. He took over his grandfather's bees when he died.

    My grandfather had an Apiary and honey company. I remember riding my bike through the bee yard and having bees land on me; they flew away once they decided i was not a flower in my colorful summer clothers and i was not a threat to them. Many in my family have bees all across the USA, both as a hobby & a business. Honey is wonderful for eating and cooking with. When i get a small burn while cooking, i will put raw honey on it and keep it moist with honey for a few days; it heals fast with very minor scarring.

    Funny story. Usually you move full hives at night. We were moving about 200 hives on a long trailer about 300 miles. As we went through a small city we were stopped by the police because apparently our licence plate had fallen out. When he heard what we were hauling he quickly shooed us on our way with a quick-' get another plate asap!'

    Congrats on beecoming beekeepers...its a wonderful hobby. We have 20 hives ourselves and know the joy and happiness you are expressing!
    You will learn alot caring for these beautiful creatures!
    One word of adivice being out in the country is to consider an electic fence to put around your platform to keep away bears, skunks and racoons. Theae animals can do considerable damage to your hives. Bears go after the honey and the racoons and skunks will eat your bees for a protein source.
    Great job on your platform. You can put at least four hives on there and still have room to insulate them for the winter.
    Good luck!

    • @user-fj2tn5vb1v
      @user-fj2tn5vb1v Месяц назад

      Also as a new beekeeper...please check for and treat for mites (they are like ticks on bees) throughout the season! Very important because they are in Canada and will weaken and eventually kill your hive if left untreated!
      So much to learn with bees...lol!

    When I was cleaning homes for a living, I cleaned house for this lady that had oodles and oodles of bee balm flowers, and she wanted me to go out and wash her windows. She had lots of , gorgeous honeybees. and I asked her it said you really want me to go out there and wash windows in with all those bees out there and she said as long as you don’t move your arms and swat at them she said they shouldn’t hurt you so I put on my bra outfit and went out and washed windows and these bees didn’t bother me. They went by my ear. You could hear them buzzing like crazy in front of my eyes, but they actually did not bother me at all and to wash windows you do have to move your arms back-and-forth but I think as long as you don’t make no sudden moves. They won’t hurt you but she had a tremendously bay window, so congratulations on your bees. They are really pretty.🎉🤟🤗 that was so cool. TFS

    My Dad kept bees for years. He wore just a long sleeve shirt, cloth gloves, if needed, and always a bee hat with a net. He usually had a small hand held smoker. He rarely got stung and that was if he accidentally pressed against one the side of the hive when working with the hive. The bees get to know their keeps very quickly. We had 5 bee hives for years and usually got 100 pounds of honey or more per year. Good Luck …. I’m sure you will enjoy your new friends!

Good luck I will be watching in anticipation your journey before ours begins. Making this comment before I watch your video-I'm excited to watch your journey!!! We had bees for about 6 years. Started with 600 hives( an agricultural size amount) on our farm. Did end up selling as I was getting more and more sensitive and our youngest became allergic as he approached puberty. Wear suits, and gloves. I would work my bees bare handed and I'm sure that sped up my sensitivity. But I miss my bees and plants to find a quieter year soon to get one hive back. I am also setting out my Flow Hive( a gift to my husband a few years ago) to attract a swarm if possible. Our nephews have 2000 hives all around us-some of which are off the first hives when they bought us out.

    Real important! You need to construct a 4 wire electric fence around the hive area asap! A weight on top of the hive will not keep predators out. Bears, raccoons, skunks, opossums, etc. love to eat honey and the bees too. They can smell them a mile away! A few years ago, much to my dismay our bees came early and we had everything ready except the fence. We planned to construct it the next day. Early the next morning we found the 2 hives ripped apart, all the frames destroyed and only a handful a bees barely alive. None survived! Yes, we had a heavy concrete block on top if each hive and it did absolutely nothing to keep a 500 lb bear from eating the bees and destroying the hives. 🐝

    There is an older lady that lives on the street behind us. She has a daughter that raises bees. At least once a week, sh brings a box of bees to her mom's & releases them. We had our grandkids friends over to swim in our pool & we picniced in the yard. All of a sudden, bees were everywhere! They covered all our drinks & food & the friends packed up a d went home & we went inside. About a month later, my hubby was walking our dog & ran into the daughter & she told him why she was releasing the bees here. It made me mad at first because we can't enjoy our pool when she does that. Our grandkids freak out, which can upset the bees. I told hubby it would be nice if she could just text us that she's bringing them between 10am & 1pm or something.

    Put something on the lid to hold it on during high winds. You may do that before I can type this💕🙏
