- After a year since building our DIY kitchen from scratch I decided its finally time to add some colour! Also, I share some personal family news :)
We purchased an 1899 abandoned home with NO KITCHEN! After months of waiting for a $36,000 kitchen order for our dream kitchen we came to realize we no longer could live here with no kitchen since it was SO delayed with no ETA. The house didnt have a bad kitchen it had no kitchen since previous owners ripped it out. We decided to research and build our own DIY KITCHEN on a budget. We took half the deposit for the original kitchen order $5000 and set that as a goal budget to accomplish this dream space. It took us a few months and a lot of love but here we are standing in our dream kitchen. Best of all we stayed in budget spending $5125.00 total! (this budget even includes a pantry/laundry room we are working on off of this room!)

Oh I love how the horses were so cautious. Then to see them run. So exciting.
I love the decor I have and I have no desire for change. I see other DIY young ladies hit their late 30s+ and decide they no longer want to follow trends. I am proud of your decision. How blessed you are to have Phillip's help and skills.
The inside of the cabinet including the sides leave all white. Love how things are coming together. So happy that your aunt is going to visit with you guys. YAY! Love the horses. They are happy being able to run. It’s their nature. Wishing you , Phillip ,the boys and in laws happiness, robust health, harmony and prosperity.
The horses thought you were taking them back to the barn and they didn't want to go just yet. They were so happy when they realized they have all this new running space. 🐎🐎💚

When I was 19 (I'm 67 now) I found out my dad did not think he was my father. Wow. It sure explained a lot. I could never make him happy and he adored my younger sisters. I grew up hating him. You see I had blue eyes like my Mom and his daughter from his first marriage and my 2 sisters all had brown eyes like him. I was newly married at 19 with a baby and he secretly shared his doubt with everyone at our reception.(drunk) Later my Mom said to me "I can't believe he still doesn't think he's your father" I WAS IN SHOCK. My sisters blame/blamed me for being a problem in our family. Even tho it was my Father's thinking, not anything I did.
I did Ancestry a few years back (after dad had died) and I seriously wondered- will it say he's not my dad. My half sister said "your on my ancestry list", I told her "really? because dad said he wasn't my father" I confronted him way before Ancestry and told him it wasn't nice that he said that, that it wasn't true- it was 14 years ago, he was dying- not sure it totally registered. But his face fell and he was ashamed. I hugged him (he never hugged me) and I felt good that I let him know I knew. Life is tough. God Bless from a Great Gran in Minnesota/usa
I think the inside backs should stay white, but I'd paint the inside sides green. LOVE that green, it's the color of my bedroom! 💚

Not found of the green for the vent. Still think you'll need to put wood the same way you did your front island. But girl it's your house, you're living in it so just do what you want lol nice to see the horses so happy
I agree, the green is lovely for the cabinets but the wood would really make the vent stand out.

I wanna thank you guys so much. I just got home from the hospital last night and I have a long recovery ahead of me and moments like this watching those horses run free like that is the light at the end of the tunnel for me and thank you for sharing with me.

I love the green on the front of your cabinets. I would leave the open part of your pantry shelving white. I love how the horses took their time moving into the paddock, and then take off running.
Seeing as green is my FAVORITE color, I think the color change is PERFECT - JMHO! I loved seeing the horses discover they could run in their new space. Your family has truly made your house and property a "heaven on earth". I also have never been a "trend" follower. I tend to shy away from something everyone "has to have" even if it was something I really liked before it was a "fad" e.g. shiplap. Over 25 yrs. ago we had gold faucets & fixtures put in the master bath. Now gold seems to be popular again. Hence the saying "Everything old is new again." Eagerly awaiting the next episode!
For the open cabinet, I say leave the back and sides white.
Absolutely love the green - such a good shade! One the shelf, leave the back and inside side walls white. The shelves by the sink (currently white) with the hooks and display items, paint shelves green leaving the knob hooks white. Leave the front island wood pattern stained as is. That is my recommendation.
Horses are loving the freedom so beautiful and they have matured beautuful
Green is one of my favorite home colors. Especially the tones and shades you are using. It goes with so many seasons and brings a natural feel inside the house. Love the change up !
Just got done watching this video and I am in tears. Tears of joy! So happy you are reconnecting with your family!! Reconnecting means soooo much to me as I know the feeling reconnecting with my daughter. Absolutely the colors!! The green looks amazing with the white and wood. Then you end with the horses running around brought the tears. They were sooo happy!! What a happy time for you!! ❤❤
I love you and your family. Your creativity and amazing abilities blow me away!!! I love the color you have chosen for your bathroom and kitchen. I think the inside of the shelving should be kept white. But, it's your kitchen and you need to do what you want to do.

I think the backs of your shelves would look cute with a peel and stick wallpaper in a cute print or a faux marble like your countertops. I personally like Paisley Cafe curtains and table runners to set things off with visual interest.
Your kitchen is a dream come true. You and your sweet husband and darling boys have worked so very hard to make this homestead a reality. You are the hardest working woman that I have ever had the pleasure to meet and watch all your talents shine through l. The color is PERFECT, and Oh My what a painter and creater you are. I think the cubbies would look good if you use the matching tiles just on the back, if that makes sense like Drew "Lone Fox" did with his marble. I love the color.
Try incorporating your laundry room wallpaper in the back of the pantry shelves. Or maybe cut out the flowers and appliqué them on. That would pull your gold and green and wood into that side of the kitchen. Worth a try. Or maybe not. Love your kitchen and all the choices you made. Horsing around was great with more space.
The horses were so cute not knowing if they could leave their space. They showed you guys how happy they were by running around. Really like the green color in the kitchen. S9 happy you have family coming what a nice treat for you. God bless you and your family.🤟🤗

It would’ve been a nice kitchen addition if you had the over-the-stove faucet. Imagine just turning in the faucet to fill your cooking pots when needed. You all have done such a fabulous job on that house so far, and if that old house could talk, it would probably thank you. 👍😆

I love everything you are doing. I usually watch you on the tv but I had to share this tip that cropped up on my Facebook. Pun is intended. They used a muffin pan to make sure the plants were evenly spaced. The person said they were using it to plant their onions but I think you could use it for anything. It was done in a raised bed.

I have an idea for the kitchen curtains… you could make Roman shades ( a nice matching green ) and add the hand painted flowers to match the wall in the utility room … ???

I vote for painting the entire inside of the shelves next to the tall cabinets. It will look more harmonious. The white will distract the eye. Everything is coming together so beautifully. It must feel like a dream finally having a fully functional home. All of your hard work is really paying off!

Regarding the shelves, maybe put a patterned wallpaper or a different color paint to make them pop and you can still see the items on the shelves. The white is just a little too stark in my opinion. But, oh my word, I love the color!!! And the horses 😍 You are doing great as first time horse owners!

my vote is for all green on the open shelves in the pantry area. I'm wondering whether you noticed the same problem in the kitchen that you mentioned in the living area with the wood stove creating soot and making everything white dingy? I'm loving the added color in the livingroom and kitchen!

I love the green. The built in shelves are going to look lovely whether or not you paint the sides. Be sure to keep the back white to make the shelves pop. I was wondering.... How about a little bit of edging the range hood in gold? I think it needs a little something, not too much, but subtle.

I think I would leave the open cabnet are white. Love the green trim on it. It helps tie in the other white in the room. Just love that green ! It looks so beautiful. Fun to see the horses running around. They are good babies.

Id paint the inside of those shelves, all the way around. Pretty color you have chosen. Paint it green now but would look cool with an accent paper or a background texture of some sort. You are such a go getter gal. I love your content.

I love the green in the kitchen. Paint some paper to fit in a shelf to see if you like it. This way you can look at it for a day or two before committing.
I would keep the insides and back off the shelf section white,it looks light and airy. You can always make changes later,if you feel the call.😊

I like how that one area that you have painted the face of the shelves looks good white inside it make what's inside stick out more and looks so neat .
