    The first time i listened to this song was 4 years ago. This song is very beautiful, that's why i tried to sing it but icelandic was very confusing, i don't know how to pronounce every word, so i gave up. Now I'm learning icelandic (because of this song), and i'm so happy because i can read the lyrics, even though still far from perfect

    I originally heard the Voces Thules version of this song, but I much prefer this version. It has a more slow, mellow and calming vibe that a I find quite pleasant.

    That was a great interpretation. Especially nice to have it sound actually Icelandic.^^
    For a Metal version with bagpipes and stuff, check out the interpretation by "In Extemo"; it's also pretty good. :D

      The raven slept in a rock-rift
      On a cold winters night
      There are many things that can hurt him
      Many things that can hurt him
      Before a beautiful day came
      He pulls his frozen nose
      From underneath a big rock
      Underneath a big rock
      The raven slept in a rock-rift
      The raven slept in a rock-rift
      Everything is frozen outside
      You can't get anything at the beach
      I'm so hungry
      I'm so hungry
      If I go to a house
      Fat1, at home, forbids me
      To pluck from the garbage
      To pluck from the garbage
      The raven slept in a rock-rift
      The raven slept in a rock-rift
      he earth is covered in ice
      There is nowhere to "set the table" (to sit and eat)
      Full-fledged birds can fly far.
      Full-fledged birds can fly far.
      But even though I look everywhere
      There's just one color
      What can a raven eat
      What can a raven eat
      Laying on its side dead
      A fat ram in the field
      Once mighty
      Once mighty
      "Krúnk" "krúnk" namesakes come here
      "Krúnk" "krúnk" because prepared for us is
      A feast on the ice
      A feast on the ice

  • @JBergmansson
    @JBergmansson 6 лет назад +1

    Cool!
    Regarding the rhythm in this piece, it sometimes sounds like you are internalizing it as a measure of 8, then 6, then 8, then 8, while at other times it sounds more like 7, 7, 8, 8.
    How are you actually thinking about it? Are you even thinking in terms of measures?

    • @SigurboiGretarsson
      @SigurboiGretarsson  6 лет назад +7

      The popularized 4:4 version of this song is taught from kindergarden and most people recognize this piece that way (which is fine) but the off-beat version I'm doing is how it was originally intended.

    • @ThorirPP
      @ThorirPP 6 лет назад

      While the version with the extra beat at the end of the first two lines is more common these days, this one is the traditional and more original one (and the one I personally learned and sing when humming the song to myself).
      Both versions are accepted though, and you hear them both played without anyone arguing about which one is more "correct".
      If you aren't grasping the rhythm (which to be fair, might be hard when you don't understand the individual words) it's always 7, 7, 8, 8 (the third line being 8 beat long and then repeated), while the more common one uses a typical 4:4
      rhythm with all lines 8 beat long.
