Lyrics:
Mín móðir hon er sum ein drotning
Hon er sum tað vakrasta lag
Mín móðir hon er sum ein blóma
Hon er sum eitt livandi træ
Mín móðir er heim mítt kæra
Mín móðir mítt tryggasta stað
Mín móðir er bjartasta glæman
Hon lýsir mær døkkan veg
Min móðir er sterkasta hondin
Trygt heim aftur leiðir hon meg
Mín móðir hjá tær eg standi
Í hjartanum goymi eg teg
My Mother is a Queen
Like the Finest Song
My Mother is a Flower
She is a Living Tree
My mother is My Home
My Safe Place
She is the Brightest Light
Lights my Dark Path
She is strong and leads me home safely
I stand by her and keep her in my heart
Thank you so much for this translation. Very appreciated

Shakespeare doesn't sound cheap, either.
And most people think their own language is cheaper than English (which have a very large number of words). It's like Lothar said, because most people doesn't speak English as native language.
My mom suddenly passed away 11 days ago. I can't describe what this song does to me - it cuts my heart open and gives me consolation at the same time.
I stand by my Mother and keep her in my heart.
Thank you for your talent, Eivør.
darialima87 I know this is 5 months later but I send my condolences. Sorry about your mother.
Stay strong, stay alive...I know the feeling...my Mother is gone, too..
My sincere condolences! I lost my mom suddenly a month ago.....
Stay strong
Daria Im so sorry 😔
Strange. I speak Swedish and I understand nearly every word, especially when I look at the lyrics in the description. I'm grateful for being able to understand this beautiful song. It's really special.
Dane here, I see it too :) Such beautiful song.
It's closer to Norwegian tho
I'm German, i dont understand the most words but it sounds not strange to me...

My mother is the brightest light
She shines the dark path for me
My mother is the strongest hand

@@irenamaria8859 thank you ❤
I think Eivör is one of the best female singers coming out of the nordic/scandinavian countries the past 25 years. Reminds me very often of the great Mari Boine.
Moja majka, ona je poput kraljice
Ona je poput najljepše pjesme
Moja majka je poput cvijeta
Ona je drvo živo
Moja majka je moj dragi dom
Ona je moje najsigurnije mjesto
Moja majka je najsjajnije svijetlo
Ona osvijetljuje moj mračni put
Moja majka je najjači pas
Sigurno, kući ona vodi me
Moja majko, s tobom ja stojim
U srcu nosim te
The singing style and the language sounds so much like Icelandic, but some of the melodies sound so Irish (where I'm from). It's like being somewhere very far away but right at home at the same time .
Just for more information, you are pretty close. She is Faroese (Faroe islands, between Iceland and Scotland. Danish territory.). Faroese is one of the old Norse languages and is extremely close to Icelandic and Norwegian. Good ear!
can you recommend me some irish songs like this mate? i'd love to check it out! cheers
Iceland already has celtic influence and considering she's Faroese that adds up to even more celtic
@@lil_weasel219 Landing at a Norwegian island many years ago for the first time - I was astonished to see a landscape similar to the Irish when the plane went down slowly ... I love the Scandinavian and Irish folklore , the music and way of life - they are wonderful and really very close to each other !! Lots of love from Germany !! 😘

I am mesmerized by the beauty of the lyrics and music of many Nordic songs. But I embrace the beauty of world music because such beauty is everywhere. Expression is not a 'waste'.
Hail from Nova Scotia. I listen to a lot of Slavic and or specifically Russian music and I find it does for me what Scandinavian music does for you. I really like Nebu Slavjan which I gather means "Sky of the Slavs." Cheers brother.
I'm scandanavian. Our culture is so beautiful, I dream of going to Norway and never coming back to America. I feel my ancestors calling to me to come back to my native lands
It's one of the most beautiful song I've ever heard. It describes the beauty not only of Faroe Islands, but the whole world.

My beloved mother left her physical body behind over a month ago. I miss her every single day, and will, till the day I leave my own body behind.

I just want to take a second and bring attention to the fact that everyone here is having a respectful discussion. Well, the ones I can read, anyway, but have no reason to indicate anything to the contrary. Nobody is being nasty. How about some more of that in the world today? All you people are wonderful!
Music can transcend divisionism and promote Unity...........what we desperately need right now.
Well said,
Deeply Moving.........I'm so overwhelmed , Eivor , I'm so grateful I found you, and can be transported by your voice of grace and power.
This song makes me wish I had a closer relationship with my mom.
Some mothers, perhaps for reasons beyond their control, aren't able to be like the woman this song describes. If and when you have children, try to be that kind of mother for them.
@lovelandfrog. What we keep wishing for and working toward, we find.
Can't blame anyone for living there. If my soul had a coastline, it would surly look like this. Most intoxicating sound, thank you for letting us borrow your world for this moment.
Angels come to earth just to hear Eivor...
I'm Belgian(Flemish) and I can sing this along remarkably well without too much effort to get the sounds and language right.
Ela descreve o jeito do querido pai

What a beautiful song for Mother Nature. Respect from the Celtic Pagans of Eire. Saoirse
Beautiful song. It is also a reminder for mums to be strong even in the hardest of times for their children's sake. ❤
My grandmother is the closest to a true mother I've ever known. She helped to raise my sisters and me, and has always been such a kind, beautiful woman. I've hoped to someday take her with me when I visit Europe, though I do not know how likely that will be as the years keep passing....
But I'm simply glad enough to have had such an incredible woman as my mother. I think I may play this song for her when I visit her again...
This song touched me deeply in my heart! Thank you for it. I hope you make more music like this.Much greetings from Germany!
Meine Mutter, sie ist wie eine Königin,
Sie ist wie die wackerste Lache,
Meine Mutter, sie ist wie eine Blume,
Sie ist wie ein lebendes Baum,
Sie ist mir Heim, mein Bescherhütte,
Meine Mutter, meine treueste Stadt,
Meine Mutter ist das bärdeste Glimmern,
Sie leuchtet mir den düsteren Weg,
Meine Mutter ist die stärkste Hündin( Leiterin),
Treuem Heime nachleitet sie mich,
Meine Mutter, neben Dir steh' ich gerne,
In Herzensnahme gebe ich Dich.

Stunning...
The tune reminds me of an Irish tune "the Star of the county Down". Very similar with a small amount of differences. Love it!!!
It's amazing when you hear human beings using instruments to mimic animal sounds, e.g. whale, horse, etc.
I love this song because I found whale and dolphins in this melody.
Thank you so much Eivør for creating a song that describes our beautiful moms!
When music and voices touch souls of other languages without understanding, you know it’s a beautiful rare gift. Thank you !!
I don't understand a word, but my god this is amazing!!!
With good music you really do not need to understand what's being sung. What really matter is how does it make you feel, does it move you right down to the core of your being. If it does then it is great music no matter where it is from or what language it is sung in.
*gods :D
Alex Flores I heard some songs what have a nice mood but text is shitty :D

So very beautiful, I love the sound of Faroese and Icelandic. So soul soothing and I like knowing that I share common ancestors with the Icelanders and the Faroese and other Norse cultures being a little Scandinavian on my Dad's side.
Faroese is a similar to icelandic. I speaking a little icelandic, thats i know
I feel the meaning of this wonderful song in my heart - so so great !! Being able to travel in my youth and healthier years I had been in Scandinavia very very often - but sadly not in Iceland and Faroe ... So I travel there in my dreams and with these beautiful images and voice ... ... From Germany with love !! 🌹 ❤
I'm from Puerto Rico, i really don't understand the language of this. But the acoustic make me feel like i am transcending to other dimension.

I'll be visiting the Faroes next year. It'll be amazing!
Wonderful voice and song and I can understand most of it as I speak Norwegian.
Jesus I'm Dutch and I knew the meaning of title as soon as I read it. Faroese is a lot like Dutch!
It's Germanic like German, Dutch, Norwegian, etc ;)
English-speaker but, yeah, it's not hard to guess.
I speak swedish I´m able to understand feel words it´s funny and cool at the same time :)
English is a Germanic language.
The title isn't hard to guess, no, but I (a Dutch person) wouldn't be able to read a Faroese text and understand more than 10% of it without any knowledge of the language.

Beautyfull ! The songs of the invisible awaken nostalgia for lost happiness.
woah this song in particular is very understandable if u speak swedish/norwegian/danish... sometimes its harder for us to understand faroese but here its quite clear
Getting "A Pillow of Winds" Vibe off of this. Beautiful stuff.
I love her voice!
A fabulous voice fit for a forboding land...magnificent
As a swede I find this easier to understand than danish
Danish is easier to read (I speak Dutch), but the way it's spoken, it's as if they're always late for something and try to gain time by skipping half the words whilst gobbling down their food and having their head down a bucket of water.
Haha, well, spoken yes but not written.
What the heck 😅 I didn't think we were that hard to understand, i actually find Swedish hard to understand too, but i havent really known any swedes. So I'm not used to the sound 😊
@@michaellejeune7715 most precise description of danish speaking ever :-) :-) :-)
I'm swiss, i lived and worked in norway ( westcoast, near haugesund) one and a half year. So i speak, understand, read and write norwegian quite good, as a benefit i also understand some swedish, can make sence of approx. 40% of faroese and icelandic written due to the norwegian westcoast language nynorsk. Written danish is easy, as it is very similar to bokmal and swedish, but spoken danish? No chance!
@@MyFoxyPanda its a joke here in sweden that goes that we and norway understand eachother but when it comes to danes we are like "what the actual fudge are they saying" 😂

Faroese is so similar to Icelandic it's actually incredible. So many words are identical.
It is similar, very. I know Swedish and could understand this without translation too. the nordic languages are amazing.
Hardly incredible when the Faroes and Iceland were settled at roughly the same time by the same people (about 70 years difference, which is irrelevant in the expanse of history).
.
Just some pretty big differences in pronunciation, actually; plus Faroese have a lot of dialectal variations, which Icelandic doesn't have in the same degree.
Icelandic has the "ð"-sound, or the voiced alveolar fricative - it is more or less gone in Faroese today, as in Norwegian, Swedish and Jutlandic (Danish dialect). Faroese doesn't have the unvoiced interdental fricative (as in English "thigh"), but Icelandic, as the only Scandinavian language, has it still. Quite many differences in vowel-pronunciation aswell, but on the "outside" they look alike, and the Faroese are very proud of that - actually, they did it more or less on purpose, even though in reality it's not as much like Icelandic as they'd like to have people believe.
yes the words here she sing in icelandic its much difrenth ruclips.net/video/EXUbSmbs_lg/видео.html
