If you’re a fan of Asher’s earlier work. Please listen to his album Why’s It So Grey Out? His rhyme schemes and content is sublime. He didn’t fall off…you did
Dead wrong my friend. Listen to "Why's It So Grey Out" & "Temporary Heaven". His most recent projects. They're artistic as fuckk. We as fans and critics wanna box artists/people into one moment of time. Asher Roth is a great rapper and lyricist.
I wanna say Asher was leading the new school at some point. I remember being the lunch table in high school and we debated on the newer rappers who were gonna be the next stars and it was Asher, Drake, Wale, Kid Cudi and Charles Hamilton lol We were spot on for the most part.
Thanks for reminding me of my college days with this one. I remember how big that single was. I'm glad he's still making music. I was wondering if you could cover Macklemore someday. His fall off was way more pronounced and dramatic. I love the deep, but quick dive into each artist you do.
He sort of reinvented himself as an experimental, Indie type of rapper. I was never a fan though. I remember going to a free CMJ show in 2012. Prodigy, Alchemist, Roc Marciano, eXquire were some of the artists on the bill. For some crazy reason, they put Roth as the headliner. Prodigy performed right before him. As soon as P's set was over, over half the crowd left, myself included.
No shade, but I never got into Asher's music. Just didn't seem like my type of rap. But at the time it did seem like "the machine" had chosen him to be the next white rap superstar.
Asher Roth CHOSE to go independent. He didn't wanna be the mainstream "I Love College" guy. Similar to how Beastie Boys didn't wanna continue with the License To Ill vibe/sound, left Def Jam and dropped Paul's Boutique❤ which wasn't well received at the time but is now considered an all time great. "Fell off" is very subjective my friend. Have you listened to "Why's It So Grey Out"? Or "Temporary Heaven"? Most recent projects with Heather Grey. They're incredibly unique and thought provoking. Mainstream success shouldn't define whether you "fell off" or not. Many artists choose the independent so they can release the art they want to.
Alright my bad, preemptive comment lol your end to part 2 and part 3 touches on what i spewed. But his growth as a human and artist wasn't stunted by any means. If he stayed mainstream, THAT would've stunted him. Going the independent route benefited his growth.
2:03 One of the most anticipated albums of 2009, Eminem's Relapse debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, selling 608,000 copies in its first week. It also reached number one in twelve other countries. It produced three singles: "We Made You", "3 a.m.", and "Beautiful", as well as two promotional singles: "Crack a Bottle" and "Old Time's Sake". "Crack a Bottle", which features Dr. Dre and 50 Cent, reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100. Relapse was certified double platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). Downturn, I think not.
I get what you're saying. The numbers were there, nobody can deny that. But if you were around for Em's debut in 1999, and were still checking for him in 2009 you couldn't deny it wasn't the same. Off the top of my head, he hadn't dropped a solo album since 2004, and that was disappointing. People bought the album in 09 to see if he still had it. After hearing Relapse most fans felt that he didn't.
College gimmick meh ! Im just over white rappers it’s like EM set the standard for white rappers, there hasn’t been another.. not even close they all lack authenticity. It’s just what it is …when EM said “my bum is on your lips “ and white fans loved it as real legit hip hop . He exposed that no matter what you make as a white rapper white owned labels and corporations will force Find you an audience.. or just force feed us their wack music . As much as we want to force the situation there will never be another EM and these guys aren’t even close …
Mac Miller wasn't on the same crazy talent as Eminem but straight off the bat he was Kicking Incredibly Dope Shit and carved out his own place as a legend R.I.P. Mac Miller
Let’s be honest For many of us who where grown and from the urban community Dude was a cornball He was a one hit wonder and had a bunch of mixtapes he made his money and vanished like many countless other rappers
Was there ever a chance for Asher Roth to become a top tier rapper, or is his music niche hip hop?
No
Hell naw. One hit wonder
@@DERRTYCHYBO No. Tone Loc was a One hit wonder! Asher Roth came and went.

Yoo have you heard Temporary Heaven? Project dropped recently. Again produced by Heather Grey. It's fucking beautiful❤ highly highly recommend
Asher Roth never did enough to leave an indelible mark on hip hop artistically. plus he's lesser talented as a artist

Do Mike Posner next!
Realizing while watching this he should have gone the Gym Class Heroes route.
Hey you should do a video on Jayo Felony. Time flys.

This has got to be the first time you put an artist as a subject on your channel the second time. I hope you remember that.
Seriously
DG Yola!
Bruh,
Didn't you do a video on him a few years ago when you started stunted growth music?!?!?
It was literally only a year ago. If you look up Asher Roth stunted growth, the first one pops up with an nearly identical thumbnail
Lil Dicky is what Asher should have turned into imo
Sometimes I feel like everyone who becomes famous don't want to be not everyone wants clout and etc but hey everyone is different tho
Do a Stunted Growth on poor righteous teachers, king sun, or rich boy,
Another Asher Roth video???🤷🏽♂️
The Rawth EP and the Rawther project he did with Nottz doesn’t get mentioned enough
But you did Asher Roth tho! I literally just checked your channel, the video is still there

Respectfully it wasn’t started by ,” black & brown people. “ it was started by black Americans. Like every other major genre except bluegrass.
Black people didn't invent rap. Look up el barzon. It's the first rap style recording. It's also 90 yo song.
This man said hip hop was created by Black AND BROWN people. 🤣🤣🤣
Please explain who these brown people were who were original creators?
Hiphop was started by black people, not black and brown.
No shade, but I never got into Asher's music. Just didn't seem like my type of rap. But at the time it did seem like "the machine" had chosen him to be the next white rap superstar.
You should do G Eazy next.

Patiently waiting on another female rapper feature. Bo$$ and/or Bahamadia

I'm thinking having crossover hit songs early in his career. It's very difficult to follow up and audiences are fickle.
