brother u reaching if they are still doing music and still got a fan base then they are good , the mainstream aint shit u know that , being mainstream equals short success that is all its good for , short success
I gotta go with the WTG album. That album was a childhood favorite of Mines. Country Boyz and Kentucky Mud were my favorite tracks. That album has no skippables either
My Dad(R.I.P) played that Watermelon, Chicken, and Gritz to death when I was a kid. That album aged better than most albums from 2002. It was the first time I heard of Anthony Hamilton. He killed that hook on "Po Folks".
Nappy Roots is one of the most successful hip hop groups of their generation. They were some country boys from Bowling Green, Kentucky while they were attending Western Kentucky University. They are best known for their hit singles "Po' Folks", "Awnaw", "Roun' The Globe" and "Good Day". They were the best selling hip hop group of 2002. The group consists of Milledgeville, Georgia native Fish Scales and Kentucky natives Skinny DeVille, B. Stille, Ron Clutch, Big V and R. Prophet. They have signed the worst record contract deal in music history and their lawyers had to look over their contracts. Also, Atlantic Records were known for screwing their artists over and it almost ruin their careers. They were like the modern day Arrested Development of hip hop. They also owned their own label, Nappy Roots Entertainment Group. They have released 7 albums so far and they are still releasing music and doing very well for themselves.
I was just playing that album last night. Both Field Mob and Nappy Roots should have had a longer career. I'm surprised that those two didn't make a album together. Both groups are the definition of country.
I Still Rock Nappy roots today. Mad talent in that group. Stunted? It's really nice to hear that somebody didn't get screwed over and that they're successful and actually got out unscathed of a crappy deal. Thanks brother awesome video
Ok… From all the shitty record contracts from the 50’s, 60’s, 70’s, 80’s and 90’s. Why wouldn’t you seek legal representation before signing a record contract? 🤔
As I watched this video, I'm thinking that Timbaland should've given them the 'Deliverance' beats instead of Bubba Sparxx. They could have gotten on the Country Charts with a few of them songs(imo).
This group's debut album was my ish over 20 years ago still is to this Day! Country Boyz amongst others on that album hit different for this Virginia born dude! (Me)
Atlantic does shrewd business. Not a good idea to sign there. Unless your a Cardi, Bruno Mars, Anderson Paak etc... They let those caliper artist have more artist and business freedom, because they bring in the lions share of their music revenue. Shout to Jazze Pha !
Things didn't turn out too bad though seeing all they went through on a major label. That first album run was crazy though.
2nd album crazier

These boys were hella Mid. Think about this in 2002🤔 Them vs. Diplomats. Simple
Atlantic Records was always a shady company since the late eighties, acts like Kwame,Cool C and Breeze were all given stupid deals that didn’t do jack
