I completely agree that HOA should be illegal
When a BS HOA that you're not even part of tries to sue you, counter sue for the value of the fines plus attorney fees. They often don't get the hint until their wallet is lightened up a bit.

HOA is a wrong definition, It should be named "Homeowners Exploiters" The acronym it will make more sense to me.
I just can't understand why the freedom-loving people of the USA allow these HOAs to exist. Than God we have no such entities in the UK.
When major developments started sprouting up, they parasitically attached themselves to new home developments. We didn't ask for them, we found they were a cancerous add-on.

Story 1. Op should have gone after them for SLAAP and harassment and demand they be disbanded to prevent any further problems. Id also, very publicly, get the covenants changed to exclude future owners from joining a hoa in future.
