Great job Austin . That spacer looks like it way better than your last one .Looking forward to your next video sir. Until next time take care and be safe.
I installed this spacer in my 95 a few weeks ago along with a Durango steering box, power steering cooler and Ironman4x4 Fab steering box brace. I highly recommend the steering box brace
Glad you like the spacer. Great install video. FYI it's pronounced Ares (AIR-eez). Let me know if there is anything else you need help with. Thanks again!
Vice grips are one of the best problem silver tools ever made. And it looks like all these long bolts that go through the simulated frame sections because they reside in a rust chamber they should be stainless.. Factory could have at least blown in under coating so they didn't,rott from a designed failure. Cheap ass AMC coulda built a frame so they didn't crumble.
Do you need to have alignment done after doing this and moving steering components? Replaced rear shocks, front shocks, all tie rod setup, and upgraded trackbar from your videos. Also lower control arms. Shop did uppers. Just got alignment done, not wanting to take it back yet lol thanks!
No you should not need an alignment. The steering box will be put back in the exact same spot with the new bracket so nothing will move in the steering.
Hi man thank's a lot for this vidéo (sorry for my english i'm french ) so, i have broke tow of the screws of my stearing geer bos so i can drive and turn left on the the road, a chance i wasn't far from the house. I did all you have explain on your great video, i succeed to brake the spacer plate and put of the broken screws as you explained, i ordered a new spacer plate from US but i can't find the new screws or you can find them at 50 or 60 dol with 50dol for shiping they are impossible to find them in france, i have oem screws in good condition but they are to short for the new plate wich is more higher than the original one so ! there is tow solutions, first : i cut the new plate to fit with the original scews or i find screws at the good longer like you did. Could you tel me if you have any sugestion and website to by the screws like yours best regards sebastien
I would try to get the correct fasteners. The bolt/screws you need can be a standard 7/16" UNC bolt that is about 3.5 inches long. They should be available at any hardware store.
very useful video ! I still have the original steering box spacer installed on my stock 1998 XJ - should I do the same job as preventive maintenance ? So far, I do not have any steering issues - thanks.
i got a loud clunk noise when turning my 01' XJ. I've recently replaced my drag link, tie rods, track bar and damper. Balljoints and control arms still seem good. The closest component I can trace it down to is the steering gearbox. Could it be that this aluminum brace be cracked and causing the noise?
@@OutJeepingI did have a friend help turn the steering wheel and can only feel by hand that the noise still seems to be coming from the gearbox. I took a chance and I ordered a new (not remanufactured) gearbox and got a good steel spacer plate from eBay. The problem I got now before even starting this job is the spacer plate is so thick that the curvature of the gearbox is hitting the plate. So the mounting bosses will not sit flush against the spacer plate. I can see why the original aluminum was so thin between the round spacers themselves, just to make clearance for the gearbox itself. I'm probably just gonna track down a good used aluminum factory one for now. It's a shame cause the plate really is a good solution to the breaking of these aluminum ones and it stiffens up the frame area too. Just doesn't work for me.
My 01 xj engine blew and overheated - started smoking and seized on me - getting a used 4.0 engine with 107,000 miles - what can I do next time to prevent this ?
Dude this is like the 5th video I've seen of you doing the same thing I'm about to do. I'm about to smoke one in your honor.
Hands down some of the best Jeep XJ videos. Doing a build myself, thanks for the hard work you put into these!
Awesome! Thank you!

I’m planning on following your steps on my 99 XJ

how did the Durango steering box upgrade work for you?
@@steelwilly8045 works great, installed a power steering cooler with it and just a great upgrade

Good job, well done 👍
Nice job Austin.Looks like you are going to need some new tires soon..
Yeah I got some brand new Falcon wildpeak at3w 31's, just waiting on the wheels to come in, unfortunately they are backordered.
Hands the best how to videos for XJ's. Curious to know if upgrading the steering box spacer help with steering slop??
It fixed some of the slop for sure. Definitely a cheap and easy upgrade to do for any XJ.
@@OutJeepingmy xj doesn't steer ;,( the steering broke of the frame will that spacer help it ?

Great video as alwais 👍, you need 100k subsscraibers 🤠
The 3 bolts are 3 1/2 or longer due to the thicker bracket?
That's called bimetal corrosion. The steel is the noble material. Dandahermit

It's all up to you, as for myself I'd say it's worth it. It's a fairly cheap part, not to difficult to install and it gives piece of mind.
@@OutJeeping thanks, dude - I agree and will also do this job as soon as spring comes up now...

Hello my friend, nice video. Do you have the exact measure of this piece. If you do have it, could you send it to me? I want to make it by myself.

It could be. Best is to diagnose and have someone turn the wheel as you look under the Jeep to see where it's coming from.

First thing I'd do is remove that wheel for some elbow room.
wheel alignment needed after?
Nope should be good. Nothing will move differently compared to before it was installed.

Change your oil every 3000 Miles with a good quality oil
Keep an eye on fluids, change them on scheduled intervals and keep them topped off. Also pay attention to coolant temp and oil pressure.
@@jerrywhalen2100 @outjeeping thanks guys
you cant...its part of owning a vehicle....it happens....nothing last forever....
A question... Does anyone know what purpose the 'Engine Mat' serves?
To keep water and debris from getting sprayed up in the engine. Alternator sits low and doesn't like to get wet, same with serpentine belt.
Can you give me the replacement bolt sizes please so I have the sizes in writing
Thanks
7/16" UNC x 3.5" long
My spacers was so brittle that I just smashed the spacer circle off the bolt lmao
I cringed so hard when you were getting that last bolt out. I thought for sure it was going to snap and your hand was going to go up into the metal
That looks like 1/8” steel.
It is actually 3/16" that is what it is listed as on their website, definitely not 1/8".
@@OutJeeping Definitely not 1/4 inch.
Love your videos.
ebay is no more, looks like they stopped selling it.
I believe they still have it on there main website though.
