I appreciate your videos very much! I'm the proud new owner of a 2000 XJ Sport 4d, 4x4 that has been off the road for twelve years after it was pretty much ran into the ground. I do have it running and driving now, the engine and trans seem to be okay and so far I've replaced the in-tank fuel pump, power steering pump and hoses, front brake calipers, pads, rotors, and rubber brake lines. I've also replaced the alternator and battery, Installed a new cheap amazon radio (old one didn't work at all, plus I wanted Bluetooth). All four factory speakers have been replaced. The headliner board was removed and the old foam-backed material was removed and I painted it with rattle-can grey. That turned out way better than I expected. I'll cover it with some material later after I figure out what I want. The hood has been taken down to the metal and painted flat black. I still need to do the roof... A small amount of surface rust is starting, but not as bad as the hood was. There is still a ton of work to do. You name it, it needs it...The radiator, water pump, electric radiator fan, The AC doesn't work, The rear springs are sagging. The front springs and all four shocks needs replaced including stopping the death-wobble. That happens between 55 - 60mph (Wow! now that will wake a fellow up on a early morning drive to work! Ask me how I know, LOL) I said all of this to let you know that watching your videos has given me some added confidence to get this old XJ out of the field and back on the road. You make it look so easy! My grandson will soon be five and he has fell in love with this old jeep. Thanks again!
Its always good for the knowledge my dude. I love all the technical stuff of the Jeeps 88-2006, so always enjoy a how to vid! Love to see one on a ZJ next to round out the trifecta
Dude seriously thank you so much mine just clogged up I replaced everything else already you know the thermostat, thermostat housing, water pump w/ inlet tube, radiator, all rad and heater core hoses, did a coolant flush then then the little heat I did have went away lol so the flush must have clogged the heater core more. Now I feel much more confident doing this job.
Wow this is so funny, about 3 hours ago I was thinking oh crap I need to do my heater core as winter is coming and mine is clogged up and outputs very poor heat. And you post this video today lol I'll be ordering my heater core tonight! Thanks for the very helpful instructions on this!
@@NoWr2Run Not going to help, it's 24 years old with 320K miles on it, It's also leaking. I've rebuilt my motor and AX15 so this should be easy. Just never done one on my XJ, so this video will be a great guide to run through this repair.
Thank you dex I know I appreciate you taking the time to explain this. I know there are countless videos of this already but you are wayy more informative on ur videos. Im looking to tackle mine in the next week or two. Thanks again for making this video just because we've requested it
Oh man thank you. I’ve had a new heater core sitting on my table for over a week for my 01 XJ. The videos I’ve seen have been all different as far as what to take apart. Your video was by far the most confidence inspiring one I’ve seen. Will do mine tomorrow with this video saved just in case. Thank you!!
Great video. I’m changing my heater core and evap on my xj. I’m replacing a bunch of rusted out parts so everything is disassembled on the interior. This will help when I finally get to this part of the job. I subbed.
DANG , DEX you make that look easy! MY hack job ass just swapped the heatercore lines into ac core thing next to HC. no leaks easy to bleed air do to the ac shratter valve up high, takes 5 mins to complete plus its double cooled, heat can cook its so hot. no foggy windows anymore
@ how does defrost and all that work? I assume you twist cold for hot obviously, and vent control doesn’t matter?? And for the hoses just hook up as you would if they were ac line

A lot of simple steps turned into a fairly overwhelming process! If I had to do it, I would certainly be watching this video closely, nice job. I live in the Pacific Northwest and I’m trying to figure out why we are labeled as the rainy area, I think Tennessee wins that #raining. 😅
That stupid ring around the fan got me a time or 2 before as well. Its always fun to spend all that time for nothing just to do it all again to line the ring up properly. Great video 👍 Im sure you're helping people out.
Did mine twice .first time took everything out part failed after about a year. The second time dropped the wheel , took out the bolts on left and loosened on the right. I was able to pull it into the passenger seat and slide hv ac cluster out after removing the bolts under hood. Your way was is much better. Good videos.
Can I bring you my 2000 XJ to work on?🤣Previous owner bypassed the heater core. When I got it, it had a funny smell. Putting 2 and 2 together, I figured out the heater core may have leaked. I did chase down some O2 sensor codes. Replaced 3 out of four. Then a crank no start. CPS! Some how the wires of the CPS were cut by the sensor. Replaced it. After a while, it happened again in the same spot. Wires were cut. HOW are the getting cut and by what. OR, are they getting smashed/pinched and by what? Now I have to chase down a P0743, torque converter circuit open or short. What and where is this? I do know what a torque converter is. I'm a disabled veteran. The Army beat me up pretty good, and I'm pushing 63. If I lay down on the ground or floor, I have to have an action plan on how am I going to get back up!🤣 I do have a mechanical and electrical aptitude. But, my experience, knowledge and physical ability is limited. The mind is willing, but the body says no way!🤣 I do enjoy your videos and your antics. Very knowledgeable and entertaining.
My 01 xj is due for a new core so since I did one last year on my 05 WK and new blower motor and sensor, so I swapped jeeps till warmer weather and maybe I'll have $ to do it next year
What year is that xj I have a 2000 and I’m trying to figure out if mine came with the key fob option I just added the factory fog light option on my jeep by swapping engine bay harness
Dex I got a 99 xj and I keep blowing the rear driveshaft any tips on that? The shaft is fine but the bolts and everything on the yoke broke off should I just get a slip yoke eliminator?
Why did you pull the entire steering column and disconnect everything? Yikes! You definitely didn’t need to remove the entire column, nor the dash harness. That the first I’ve ever seen anyone do that for a heater core in an XJ. Not hating, just trying to understand.
you should do a "how to" video every other week or so where you ask us and see what our common problems are with jeeps and you show us how to fix them
Or maybe a once a month live stream would be cool.. so we can pick at his brain in the live chat. Lol
@@WolfZiLLA84 a live stream would be sick!
Hey you forgot the metal bracket that holds the heater core lines to the box it's on the floor beside you on right hand side.

I am in Illinois and they wanted 1,400 for my WJ. Cheapest estimate I was able to get.
