Runrig always seemed to me a bunch of decent, genuine people. Listening to Ruaraidh here confirms that impression. To my ears that 'genuineness' comes through in the music they've created (and also in the way they performed it). Runrig were 'never fashionable' - as one commentator put it - because their appeal is timeless. Thank you for what you brought into the world, it is richer for it. 🙏💫
There’s an old song by Cooper Brothers A Dream Never Dies Just The Dreamer A Song Never Dies Just The Singer Runrig is the legend that will never die. And the songs will never die even if sadly, Gaelic eventually dies but thanks to Rory and Callum it was brought back to a different generation with oomph. Nearly 50 years on and I still love the music, the words, the meanings, just sad they never made it to the 50th year Anniversary Concert before hanging up the spurs. Thank you for the music that got me through life’s ups and downs cos ‘Life Is Hard’ but Runrig got us through it. What about Rockall hope Rory and Calum with still carry on.
being French, although I lived in Scotland when Runrig started, I deeply regret they could not make it in France. Great interview anyway, I appreciate greatly, and my love for Runrig will remain forever.
Interesting to hear, yeah that´s part of life. Things won´t last forever. Still, of course Lough Lomond live, now long time ago, with DM, before he went into more serious politics. And that´s The Story. By the way, music and esp. the video here "The Story" (yes, you must have a video to promote your music now, sorry was it ten years ago?) that was magic. In b/w, ..."still dreaming of the Hebrides.." Great way to end Alba here. Okey, "Somewhere", also marvellous, Julie Fowlis! (Myself been on a couple of concerts during the years, been living some miles west of Galway now almost twenty years ago, yes that´s the Waterboys place, just close to Spiddal, and later up in Donegal. The Celts, you know )
Regarding not breaking France, I think Runrig arrived too soon! If they toured today, they would find a much more eclectic audience. For the longest time, French people were fed French music only and there should never be anything else. Then younger people looked to the rest of the world. Those young people are now maybe 20 or 30 years older so their kids are exposed. Today, you have famous country and western bands come from America. There is a big blues festival every year.
