Larry was my grandfather, it warms my heart massively to read such loving comments. He certainly was the greatest in the world, I am so lucky to have sung with him. Grateful to possess his musical genes...evidently they skipped a generation as my Mum could not sing a note! (Think wet cats getting a bath and you can hear her) Thank you for all the Larry Love! He would be thrilled! X Emma
Emma SJ-----m.ruclips.net/video/-SFmDBynSQU-/видео.html- Here you can see & hear your Grandpa playing Gershwin's IT AIN'T NECESSARILY SO in Berlin Olympia Stadium with Werner Müller & Orchestra in a TV- Feature of 1966. You can find Part 1 on RUclips. From Gershwin to Sting. The Harmonica player of the century. Greetings from Germany
thanks for this rare and beautiful album ... I'm ninety years old and I listened to Larry Adler many years ago .... Thank you for giving me the happiness to hear it again .... Thank you again ...... !!!! !!!
I've heard better harmonica versions of Claire de Lune, but those poor guys weren't Zionist lobbyists like 'Larry, the overrated Adler' so their tunes are lying on the RUclips like amateur trash but his tune is in Hollywood and cheered for.
Clair De Lune... ON HARMONICA no less... played more beautifully than most other pianists I've heard. It's due to this guy's credit as a musical genius and artist that transcends the instrument. I think Mr. Adler's sensitive performance would have made even Debussy cry. I enjoyed it in Music For Millions; thank you for downloading it on You Tube. I believe there were concertos written for him. I remember hearing them on vinyl many years ago. ..

I met his cousin her name is Barbara she did commercials on television she passed away about 10 years nice lady she warming up one of my harmonicas she told me my cousin is one of the best harmonica players in the world I asked who he was she told me it blew my mind I grew up watching him in the 50s and 60s
I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Adler in London nearly a quarter-century ago, and I came away from our meeting with a most precious souvenir: a miniature Hohner harmonica with his name engraved on it. He was the man who elevated the humble "mouth organ" to a virtuosic instrument.
I had the pleasure to have known him and the honour of having spent a lot of time with him in the last years of his life. When I first met him in the mid nineties I knew of him as the legendary (he hated the term since he was alive and could not have been thus a legend...) mouth organ player. I now remember him as much more than just that: also as a composer and improvisator as well as a remarkable piano player. As he put it to me: "I have no virtuoso technique for the piano but I have a good touch and a good sense of harmony". The result was piano playing of astonishing musicianship and beauty. My private recordings of him playing on the piano Gershwin and other Jazz standard music (as well as some of his own - he would put together a tune practically every day) gives me as much, or even more, pleasure than anything else he did. If only he - or anyone- had taken care to perhaps record even a portion of the countless tunes (which were often very developed into extensive pieces of music)... Just imagine the theme of Genevieve, and then dozens and dozens of themes of that addictive quality which only he ever had the pleasure to hear.
I do it myself sorim and he was my mentor by record of course and I can play because I was a natural but never had the nerve or self-belief to perform.I don`t care though because I can play and that is what counts. Not as well as Larry Adler but who could?
My dad worked for the BBC in his youth as a sound engineer and met Larry backstage one time. Larry had "blown out" his harmonica and gave it to my dad. The way my dad told it, it seemed to me that Larry was a genuinely personable chap. Not like the stars we have today. Beautiful tune and so soulfully played. Thanks for the upload.
Actually, this scene is from the 1944 MGM movie, Music for Millions. It is one of the most beautiful scenes from one of the best movies that I have ever seen.
A lifelong Larry Adler fan. Just bought a silver concerto and trying to perfect Clair de Lune. This helped because it gave a close up of him using the harmonica, confirming he used a normal C key setup to play it in Dflat.
I've heard better harmonica versions of Claire de Lune, but those poor guys weren't Zionist lobbyists like 'Larry, the overrated Adler' so their tunes are lying on the RUclips like amateur trash but his tune is in Hollywood and cheered for.
Was privileged to see him in mid seventies at Tango Restaurant on Belmont and Sheridan in Chicago! Amazing performer! Thank you for sharing this on RUclips.
anthony williams 1 second ago In 1967 I visited a friend who lived in Esher, a suburb of London, in my old three wheeled vintage Morgan sports car, which had a canvas roof, and was open on sunny days as it was on this particular day. I had arranged to meet in a pub in the area, and at lunchtime, I drove there, with a guitar which I played in the style of Django Reinhardt, the famous French Gypsy , and I carried the guitar to the pub under my arm, and as I entered the vestibule, two very smart gentlemen were leaving the pub, and we bumped into each other in consequence. One of these gentlemen noticed my guitar, and asked me what sort of music I played on it, and I told him about the great gypsy guitarist Django Reinhardt, who was my hero in music. The Gentleman pulled a harmonica from his breast pocket, and told me that he had played with Django Reinhardt in Paris , France , in 1938. Suffice to say, we ended up playing several choruses of the song : " Sweet Georgia Brown " together, and of course I do not need to tell you who the Gentleman was , his name was Larry Adler, probably the greatest harmonica player ever in the whole world. Lucky Me.
Larry Adler was a genius and a big inspiration on me as a harmonicist. I think every harmonicist has wanted to play so pretty that it makes people cry.
Dear musicfriend, W O W - we love Larry Adler and we always enjoy his VIRTUOSO harmonica playing, this song sounds just amazing, thanks for sharing this wonderful video and great music with us, our compliments to you and LARRY !! INFO : I play the chromatic harmonica myself too, so I know how difficult it is to play the harmonica this way, it takes hours and hours of practicing !! Our best wishes to you, Best regards from Chris and Mayka - The Netherlands - Western Europe.
Clair de Lune, June Allyson and Margaret O'Brien: 3 favorites together. Just Lovely. You are the only person who can make me cry and laugh at the same time. And yes I'm guilty - "You girls sure go in for that long range optimism, don't you... " You know I do. :) Thank you D.
Maxima expresion y maestria en una pieza clasica, que mejor tocada tambien por un gran maestro de maestros.Sin duda un gran recuerdo y una gran enseñanza para quienes seguimos su ejemplo.
@252925j I'm a big fan of Margaret O'Brien too. When you run out of film clips to watch, try listening to some of the many vintage radio dramas she was featured in.
it should probably be said as to why there are so many sad reaction shots... June Allyson i.e. the main cryer's husband has just died. She doesn't know it but all the other girls do. BUT SPOILER. He actually isn't dead ( shocking, MGM never had happy endings) The telegram was wrong. He's alive la la la

Your grandfather is a inspiration :)
I saw him at the Village Vanguard. He walked in wearing a black silk smoking jacket and played Rhapsody in Blue
Thank you so much for sharing this with us .
The gift of his craft will live forever he was truly a master.

God Bless you Sir...
I had the pleasure of meeting and hosting Larry and his daughter Marmoset in Nairobi Kenya.
I remember the 1950s as a young child, the sound of Larry Adler on the "wireless" just carries me back to that time. So evocative. A great talent.
I've heard better harmonica versions of Claire de Lune, but those poor guys weren't Zionist lobbyists like 'Larry, the overrated Adler' so their tunes are lying on the RUclips like amateur trash but his tune is in Hollywood and cheered for.

One of my late mother's favorite songs. She passed 4 years ago today. Miss you and love you forever mom 09/25/29-10/09/2020
Because of Mr Alder harmonica sales went through the roof and for good reason.
He's a brilliant artist well respected all over the world.

I'm jealous!
Thank you for sharing!
He was a friend of my dad, stayed at our house in north Wales on occasion just to get away from it all
I do it myself sorim and he was my mentor by record of course and I can play because I was a natural but never had the nerve or self-belief to perform.I don`t care though because I can play and that is what counts. Not as well as Larry Adler but who could?
You are so fortunate to have been able to spend time with a true master of his craft

Love this part of the movie...
I so agree! I always have tears.

I`ve never heard a more beautiful rendition of a song like this ....and performed on a harmonica no less. Just simply sublime
So marvellous that a little instrument can bring out great beauty, played with skill and
feeling. I was mesmerized and brought to tears!
I've heard better harmonica versions of Claire de Lune, but those poor guys weren't Zionist lobbyists like 'Larry, the overrated Adler' so their tunes are lying on the RUclips like amateur trash but his tune is in Hollywood and cheered for.
Just a sublime performance to spellbound the music lovers with the flavour of the sweet notes. Very very mellifluous & dexterous.
I'm 23. This was out way before i was ever born. I'm glad I've found it despite that
Superclass chromatic harmonicist playing one of my favorites themes. Thanks for sharing
Was privileged to see him in mid seventies at Tango Restaurant on Belmont and Sheridan in Chicago! Amazing performer! Thank you for sharing this on RUclips.

Congratulations on writing the single sweetest comment I have seen on any video in my 13 years on RUclips.
I saw this movie on TCM today. Was so great.
LATE 2020. and his music is still alive. WONDERFUL.
Today, August 22nd is the anniversary of Debussy's birth(born 1862 -died 1918) - the composer of much great music. Bravo!
Clair de Lune, June Allyson and Margaret O'Brien: 3 favorites together. Just Lovely. You are the only person who can make me cry and laugh at the same time. And yes I'm guilty - "You girls sure go in for that long range optimism, don't you... " You know I do. :) Thank you D.

astonishingly beautiful
What an incredible talent, never equalled.
Beautiful!
Does anyone know if this clip is still under copyright? We dont want to use all of it just the part with Larry Adler playing harmonica.
Thanks
What movie is this from? Sorry, an Adler newbie!
He had a harmonica in his pocket, orchestra knowed his arrangement and was ready to play it....Hollywood magic!

For some reason I have the urge to imitate Larry Adler in this scene whenever I'm in public.
Bravo maestro, bravissimo.
incrível!!! brilhante harmonicista!!!! estupendo!!!

Nadie como el, ha interpretado "Claro de luna" todo un portento. Descanse en paz.
Today commemorates Larry's 100th Birthday :)
sublime....
What a gem
why do I like this so much
El mejor!!
I wonder what harmonica he is playing! A "Larry Adler" Hohner? :)
HarmoActive Looks like a 270.
They were 270`s too but with his signature cover on them.Jim.Liverpool.
Would you consider selling it?
meraviglioso....
Sublime!!! Sublime!!!
Perfection
Tears
Virtuoso.
why am i crying?
I miss the b&w times...
Inégalé!
LARRY ADLER THE ONE,THE ONLY THE ORIGNAL❤️
Why can't I convert this to MP3?
Eterno
Su interpretacion, te acongoja.
ALL TIME LEGAND.
Do yourselves a favor and rent this film. It’s $2.99 on RUclips, far better quality than this video fortunately.
What key does he play in?
I should imagine Bb, that's what Larry says.
During ww2 Adler stashed over a hundred harmonicas in a safe deposit box in case Hohner factory got bombed
Can you play this on any harmonica
Only on a chromatic-type harmonica
I just tried it... it's not that hard on a Chromatic in key of C.... just keep the button held down.
Thanks!
Why did not God make two Larry Adler (s). One for today..
Rajeev Ranjan Baisantry phillip achille is amazing. You should give him a listen.
口琴成為他身體的一個延伸,,,與其說在演奏,不如說他的靈魂通過口琴的每一個音符在跳舞,,,
This is my sister - mumble mumble mumble - say it, don't spray it!
When he lived in the UK my grandfather was his chauffeur . They were both pretty left wing so probably had lots to talk about .
they said asians have the best talents... guess they havent seen this
jouer Debussy a l harmonica alors qu ici la ruine-babine ne servait qu a amuser les bucheurs dans les chantiers
A great musician treated terribly in the MacArthur witch hunt .
