TOM, so great that you inform people how to set up , do layout , pour and explain procedures all the way down to the cut joint tricks of the trade to do concrete! Good stuff! Your business will STILL grow (as will this channel) because the PHYSICAL work is too challenging to most but enjoyable to watch!!!
Wow! This one brought back memories. My Grandfather taught me the right angle trick 50 years ago. I bet a lot of your viewers learned something today. Someday, could you preform a slump test for those if us that don't work with concrete often and can't determine slump by eye? Thanks
Alright...! Excellent Monday morning “lecture” by Professor Tom, on basic form set-up 101... delivered with explanation that even a “knot head” such as myself, can understand. Loved it...! Thank you sir.
Been using math for decades for non-professional work at home, as well as volunteer work for youth baseball fields. Outstanding vid. Great explanations. Fun, informational and entertaining! Thks.
I used to doo this, but found a string line down the sidewall gives you a visually correct form set. I never trust the wall crew to get it right to use the 3 4 5 method
Love watching your videos. What I would like to see is a video without music or at least limited or with lower volume. It seems a number of RUclipsr seen to think loud is better but when you think about it when a commercial starts it’s loud so what do you do you mute it or change channels.
Hey! Great educational series - all videos! Would you do a vide or add how you and crew form curves we the would formers..Hopefully, that information can be shared…Me, I cannot bend the wood even using the thin 1x4s. Thanks much…God Bless! RD Smith - Big Sky Country - MT
Sure is a lot of houses with gray siding in that neighborhood. I wonder if some of those were spec houses ? Tip for anyone buying string for running forms or anything in construction, get braided line only.
Hi Tom Just a tip have the driver drop his pusher axle when going over something you don't want to brake . It will spread the load . Of course they automatically ( or should ) raise when the truck is in reverse ,but like you said it was a lot lighter then . I was wondering why you didn't make a large landing at the door , then the second step ? Was that the home owner's decision ?
Just didn’t wanna take up too much room in the patio with the steps and landing they have plans for different areas thanks for watching that’s a good tip about the axle
When forming steps out of a door I always try to make the steps either 16 " tread or 24" tread . space permitting of course. It gives you a larger area to stand when opening the door with a tray full of fresh grilled meat
like the tip using 2x4 to share up off the house.you can pour concrete up to the siding ,it won't hurt it?can you put the antiquing color on it even if the concrete is dry?
I will always try and do tool cutting then I don’t have to worry about it all night and an upcoming video a patio it’s too big and we have to saw cut it but we usually do one or two tool cuts with it thanks for watching
When you get a rock under the slats and it pops it always sounds like the sidewalk broke. Scared the heck out of me a few times. Great job brother and awesome video!
@@GRUBB-MUDD That works well and the 3.4.5 method. Usually eyeballing is the last touch because trim can be crooked. The 3.4.5 method Is awesome for framing slabs for buildings. But we usually just string and eyeball. And double check with 3.4.5
@@jmconcretecoloradosprings good point 345 never is off, sometimes I rive a steak exactly 1 foot off the house and run it all the way off, then measure back 1 foot
curious why the small step outside the door. Wouldn't it be better to have at least a 36" pad to walk out on before stepping down out the door? the steps just look small and don't seem to integrate into the patio. Looks good overall!
You and I are the only ppl on youtube that uses liners. They look so much better, I use 3 different types all proline. I tried get u to watch w out putting a link in the comment. I use my liners on almost every job, but u use clamps? I use screws
About 50 years ago more or less my grandparents neighbor had a concrete driveway and when they had a garage built the contractor had to come back and replace his driveway after the concrete truck destroyed it. Nowadays I doubt that would happen
I retired from the mixer company in these videos. They have a place on the bottom of the bill to have the contractor or home owner to sign a property damage release. Tom doesn't ever have to sign this because he isn't going to risk damaging things like this.
@@Concretewiththehauses I miss everyone too. Retirement is good. I keep busy at home doing all the things to my property I didn't have time to do herding a mixer around. I love the videos, keep them coming.
Watching the patio being squared reminds me of a joke. ( An expensive piece machinery would not work. Calling in a tech, he examines the machine/problem and says he can fix the issue for $25K. The price is agreed upon. Taking a hammer he taps the machine once and it immediately starts. The owner is upset and wants a bill for his service, claiming he got ripped off. The expert tech. hands the owner a bill. One dollar for the hammer tap and $24,999 for learning the knowledge on where to tap !)

I love the heavy stone boarder. It makes the concrete look like an actual slab on stone. Always beautiful!! 👍 🧡 🪨
I totally agree! Looks magnificent!
@@mikeelwood8626 And the stone-look steps. I love that.
The heavy stone border looks really nice. Great job as always. 🇺🇸
I applaud you and your crew, great job
Damn I just learned a new trick, about using a trowel to ensure your joint cracks where u want it to
Tom, thanks for the serious education and great enjoyment! My husband and I watch in the mornings over coffee and it's terrific! Awesome work!
I love hearing that thank you

Great tips. You’re a real master. I don’t care what Steve says about you in his vids 😂
Your videos are wonderful! Enjoying them very much.
Thanks for the tips

So setting up a string line by eye ball first then set your stake, then dig her out now some folks can not see it but with experience good to go .
Thanks

How do u do u borders w the liners, I just use a tape measure and a regular jointer

I would like the whole patio in the rough stone pattern.
Love your guys work, coming from a concrete contractor in California.😍
The stone look is very nice. it looks like real stone to me. it is beautiful. Thank you for the great video.
you guys do good work
Like how you rounded the step corners, gives them a nice “soft” appearance, yet with the stone face!
Nice job Hauses! I love it, ha ha.

We always use liquid color in the buckets . rip open the top and pour it in . no bags stuck anywhere
Do u not compact the loose stone. If not why not. Thanks
Did you compacted the gravel any?

Nice looking patio! How’s you get the sides to look like stone? And also what kind of dump truck is that?
Should have put a vertical joint on the edge since you had the horizontal line carried across it.
When forming steps out of a door I always try to make the steps either 16 " tread or 24" tread . space permitting of course. It gives you a larger area to stand when opening the door with a tray full of fresh grilled meat
Wow, that is an excellent recommendation!
When laying out our paint booths we use the same formula or procedure.
My kind of boss. Gets to work early to get stoned before the crew shows up.
Couldnt agree more
Thrower concrete. Are you located in or around pittsburgh?

You can antique it anytime before sealing Thanks for watching
Do you bump up air entrainment when using pigments? Maybe you don't use it at all as I'm not sure where you guys operate.... freeze there?
Do you need a B100 construction license or any certification to do concrete work?

You could just run a string down the wall, it's all simple geometry "Concrete work"

What is the differences in using metal trial and a wooden trial? You may have answered before and I missed it.
I think the difference is the wooden trowel grabs or holds the concrete a little bit more.
Nice mellow intro music
Where is you located?
A 1/4 bubble on any length???
Yes quarter bubble 2% any length as what we’re looking for thanks for watching
@@Concretewiththehauses thank you for your response. I really enjoyed this video as it teaches other ways other contractors do stuff. Thank you!!!!
Did anybody see (at 1.28 into the video) the great big bug/small lizard climbing up the wall? Watch the end cap on the flashing.
You need to learn permatique no offense, I learned it last year and it is nice

You poured concrete against the siding? If so that’s bush league!
It looks like painted foundation. I think they are below the siding by a few inches.

Tread & Riser ???
Tread- the part you step on, Riser-the height of the step itself…
I know I heard myself say that in the video today sorry about that
