The place is gorgeous but it's sad to see what was sacrificed for the construction that don't really benefit the locals around the area who are in the lower income bracket. Multiple developments in that area promised job opportunities but we can see that it's a ghost town without PRC and Singaporeans coming in. Mangrove swamps that are home for different animals were sacrificed whilst nearby rivers are at risk of disruption due to the construction. Is it worth the aesthetics?
Isn’t it a matter of demand and supply? These people bring about jobs and businesses for the community. Or you rather it stay a mangrove swamp? If it’s on solid land, would you say that it could have been used for plantations? It isn’t like they are building factories, mining or heavy industries .

Penang is too crowded and the traffic jam is awful. Parking is also a big headache. Penangites driving skills are definitely a nightmare to others who believe in following simple traffic rules like using the left and right signal indicators. Maybe Penang would be a pleasure for those who are wealthy but a visit to the flats where most average person live tells a different story. Crampy living space, improper disposal of rubbish by the occupants and it's a hellish adventure to find a parking lot. No doubt the food is ok but not much difference in taste elsewhere in Malaysia.
